EMMA.
Agitation and anxiety had Emmaâs body frozen, rigid in the set of her shoulders and the clench of her jaw; the only movement came from her hands, perched upwards as she toyed nervously with the locket at the end of her necklace â a gift from Kit. Luckily the maniacs from N.E.T hadnât taken that from her in their heist. She was alone in the party, the former colleague who had invited her as a plus one schmoozing in other areas that were foreign to the brunette. Although she had integrated back into high society rather nicely, the familiarity of a house party was a pool she hadnât yet dipped her toe back into. And for good reason. Alcohol was fine to her, a stimulus she could handle, but after walking in on a girl doing a line in the bathroom, Emmaâs hard work seemingly went out the window with the autumn breeze. She managed to find a seat to retreat to in a calmer area of the social setting, but she was still alone â until pressure settled down on a seat near her. A scapegoat. Breathing a sigh of relief, Emma spoke, almost pleading;Â âCan you talk to me? About anything. Anything at all.â
The party was something Scarlett was used to, yet not used to at the same time. Her work colleagues had extended the invite to her â and who was she to say no when her partner said something along the lines of, aw, come on Fairchild, youâre not scared of a little house party are you? So, naturally, she was at the house party. She was used to parties, she grew up attending them, just not this kind of party in a natural sense. However, she was a social butterfly by nature, always had something to say, so it was easy for her to slide into conversation naturally. Didnât mean she liked it at this current point, which she didnât â sheâd been attempting to ward off a guy whose name sheâd already forgotten for a solid fifteen minutes now. Whatever happened to taking no for an answer? She smiled tightly at him when she spied her freedom, eyes widening. âHey, Iâm really sorry but my best friendâs over there Iâve been looking for her for hours. It was really nice talking to you, Jeff!â she called out, walking away, and the last thing she heard from him was my nameâs James? Huffing, she fell down beside Emma and turned to her, brows immediately furrowing. âAnything? Well, I think I just offended some manchildâs ego by calling him the wrong name. Like, forgive me father for I have sinned â all he wanted to talk about was his car collection. I donât give a fuck,â she groaned, head falling back for a second before she turned back to look at Emma. âYou okay?â
