“Wonderful.” Scarlett grinned. “Swimming buddies are always welcome. You ready?”
“yeah.” she giggled as she slipped out of her shorts and jumped into the water, choosing to leave her shirt on. “oh my gosh, it’s so cold. i love it.” she giggled.
Scar laughed and shook her head as the other girl jumped into the water. This would be a good distraction from everything that went on around them. “Watch out, I’m coming in.” She warned before jumping in after her.

Scarlett glanced over at the boy as he tried to make conversation. It was a long walk, though, so she decided to go along with it. “Just a few weeks. I was alone for a few years before this, though. Was it just you and your brother before you found the kingdom?”
“it was our parents for a while, but.. one day they went on a supply run and never returned. my brother is hopeful they’re still alive and that they’ll find us, but.. i’m sure i can guess what happened.” ben looked down. “for a while before they found us, it was just the two of us, yeah.”
Scar nodded, listening silently as he explained the situation. It seemed to be a sensitive subject, and she felt a bit bad for even asking. “Having hope is always a good thing, though. Everyone needs to have a little bit of hope these days.” She didn’t, not really. She was just living, day after day, not even caring if she would wake up the next morning. “Well at least you have a real place now, right?”

“I’m just going for a swim. Care to join me?” Scar asked, glancing back.
“No, thank you.” Lola told the other with a light shake of her head. Where before a practically half naked woman might have made her nervous, she now remained perfectly calm. Used to seeing more part of skin ever since she became a nurse. “I need to regroup again soon and get going. “
"Suit yourself." Scar shrugged, dipping in her toe. It felt nice and reminded her of a better time. A time that was more simple, where zombies didn't try to kill everyone she loved. "Already? Where are you even going anyway?"

“Oh, Lucille. I’ve heard some pretty vile words said about her.” Scarlett snorted, shaking her head. “They’re not very big fans of hers back home. Or of any of you, really. I try to avoid it all, though. Nothing interesting is really going on at all. At least not while I’m there. If I’m not on duty, eating, or sleeping, I’m usually out here. It feels too closed in with the walls, y'know? It’s definitely more fun on my little adventures. You can run into some pretty interesting people.”
“it… she… is really something.” bellamy laughed and shrugged his shoulders. “well, if i recall correctly, she did end the lives of a ginger and an asian dude, so i guess i can’t really blame them.” he spoke as if it was a casual thing, something normal. “like me? but yeah, i get that. i get the trapped feeling too inside the walls of the sanctuary sometimes. luckily i’m able to leave.”
"She really is." Scar snorted. The murderous baseball bat was apparently a female. It felt weird giving an inanimate object a gender. "That she did. I believe the ginger was name Abram or Abraham, something like that. The Asian was Glenn. That one I remember." She laughed quietly and nodded. "Oh, of course you. Who else could be interesting out here? But really, sometimes I can't even stand to be in there. I feel like such an outsider there. Thankfully, I don't have many friends there so it's easy to slip in and out without anyone noticing or missing me. That's actually kind of sad, but oh well."

“It’s not all that people crack it up to be, but it’s home. Well… it was home.” Scarlett shrugged. She hadn’t been there since the start, and would probably never go back. The city was most likely in ruins, anyway. “Do you remember the name of the band?” The girl questioned as she raised her eyebrows curiously. “Finland and Germany. That’s pretty cool. What made you come to America?”
“one direction. they were fucking horrid.” bellamy laughed. “my mom.. step mom. she wanted to visit her family and took me and flora with her. our grandma died and turned in the room with us there.” bellamy shrugged his shoulders. “wasn’t really close to her anyway, but mom took it pretty hard. since then we had been on the run until mom got in between a walker and flora. my sister.. couldn’t cope after that. she took her own life.”
"Oh my god, I've heard of them!" The girl laughed, shaking her head. "See, I never went through any boyband phases. Maybe I just wasn't old enough, but I highly doubt I would've either way." Her smile fell as he described it all to her. He was very open about his past and she wasn't exactly sure how she felt about it. Did she have to spill her secrets now too? She felt a bit obligated. "I'm sorry. In my first group, we had these twins and a walker got one so the other killed himself. After I had to kill my girlfriend, I tried too. Wasn't the first time either." Scar said quickly, thinking it would sting less the faster she said it.

“Killing innocent civilians. C'mon, Coral. Get your head in the game.” She teased, elbowing him playfully. “I do lock my fucking doors! I lock my front door every night. So I have to unlock them then. Cos I always triple check to make sure they’re all locked tight. Every night. I’ll really just have to tie myself to the bed. It’s the only way.”
“i can’t say i blame you, i do the same thing. i mean, dad and michonne lock the doors, but i always find myself checking to make sure they’re still locked whenever i’m up in the night. it becomes a habit when you live in this world, i guess. what if your sleep-self gets smart and unties it?”
"It's always better to be safe than sorry. I know that nobody in Alexandria would do something, but God forbid." Scar shrugged. "If I get up to get water in the middle of the night or use the bathroom, I always check to make sure everything is still locked shut. Windows too." Maybe she was just paranoid, but it was the small things that helped. "Well shit, then I gotta pray someone doesn't shoot me, huh?"

“Not really, but at least it’s something.” She looked around, narrowing her eyes before pointing to her shirt. “This?”
“nah, it was that guy’s backpack. but the shirt would’ve also worked. your turn.”
Scarlett snorted and shook her head. "Ah, shit. Ummm... I spy somethinggg... gold."

“I’ll lose my-” Scarlett stepped back, staring at the door and taking a deep breath. “Listen Coral. I am not a fan of small spaces. I never have been. And, no offense, but with you in here, it’s even smaller. So if we could-” She started jiggling the knob again, whining quietly to herself. “This is so hopeless. I can’t-”
“you think i like them? seriously, i get how you feel, really. but you just need to calm down, as hard as that sounds.” carl sighed as he continued to try to push the closet open. “just.. breathe..” he said between pushes. “if you think we like, aren’t getting air or something, those cracks on top and bottom are there for a reason.”
"No but-" Scarlett covered her face with her hands and took a deep breath. "I'm trying to be calm, don't you think?" She had stopped banging and yelling and was now focused on keeping her breathing steady. "I'm breathing. I'm breathing. But those cracks? They're cracks. Small. How much oxygen can those little fucking slits let in, Carl?"
scarredhadley:
“Rick’s accent is… a special thing. I try not to think about it.” She laughed quietly to herself, nodding. “Uh… Yeah, sure. As long as you got time.” Scarlett took out her compass, checking their direction. “I think it’s a bit of a ways that way.” The girl pointed before heading off. “Come on, kid.”
ben nodded his head and followed, running a hand through his hair. “so uh.. you been with alexandria long?” he asked, looking over at the brunette as they walked. “been with the kingdom for a few years myself. me and my brother.”

“DC huh? That’s pretty cool.” Scar nodded. “Did you like it there?”
she shrugged, “i was happy, i guess. but it wasn’t really about dc. it was more about my family there.” she said, looking down at her feet in the water, brushing her blonde hair back.
"Well that's good." Scar nodded again, frowning slightly at the girl's response. Family. That seemed to be a reoccurring theme with just about anyone she spoke with. "Ah, gotcha. I've been hearing that a lot lately, actually."

“So where are you from?” Scar asked as she walked in deeper. If she was from the midwest or something, it’d make sense that she never learned how to swim. “I’m from New York City.”
cassie had been taught to swim, her father never wanting her to miss out on anything. “i’m from dc,” she said calmly, “not all that far away.”
"DC huh? That's pretty cool." Scar nodded. "Did you like it there?"

“Like I said, I respect it. I’m just throwing caution into the wind for a bit to have a little fun, y’know?” She stepped into the water, glancing at the girl again. “Don’t even wanna get your feet wet?”
cassie shrugged at this and took a few quick steps forward, sitting and dipping her feet into the water. “guess it can’t really hurt.”
“So where are you from?” Scar asked as she walked in deeper. If she was from the midwest or something, it’d make sense that she never learned how to swim. “I’m from New York City.”

“Stay in water that’s shallow enough and pretty clear, and I don’t see what therre really is to worry about.” She shrugged. “I don’t really worry about walkers too much at this point. You’ll go crazy. Or at least I would.”
“that’s your prerogative. i’m just being cautious.” she shrugged.

“Worse things?” Scar questioned as she raised her eyebrows. “Alligators. Those are worse than sharks. They kill more than 100x the amount of people a year than sharks. But I don’t think that’s what you’re referring to, is it?”
“you know walkers swim, right? and when you can’t see below the water, it seems kinda pointless putting yourself at risk that way…”

“it’s not sharks i’m scared of,” she said calmly, “there are other things in the water besides sharks. worse things.”

“As in you don’t like it, or you never knew how?” The girl questioned, trying to say it in a way that didn’t sound rude. For a city girl, she was a hell of a good swimmer. She loved going to Long Island and swimming at the beaches. “No shame in either answer.”
“i know how,” she said quietly, “i guess i just… don’t like it that much? especially now. i guess it feels like extra vulnerability, y’know?”
“I can respect that.” She nodded, glancing at the water again. “At least there’s no sharks in the water? Not that they’d do anything to you, though. I’m not helping, am I?”
