Look -- the first human they’ve known exists since the rest went gone --
“ NO ”, Frisk would love to scream at her. in place of signing, their hands grip tighter on that shell of a scary thing. the fingers are cut and dirtied like an infant’s -- if you threw one. the gallery has been worse than outside and breaking the things hurting them made them feel a bit better. even if there were more noises after.
so they raise it higher -- getting ready for the SMASH of endless teeny shards in an ear-stabbing rain--!

One: don't gulp. two: don't frown. three: don't pause. Frisk has seen so many adults before them try to break news to a kid and fail horrifically. with practice, they look upon her. their own face shows the shared feeling of every kid that’s hiked the mountain and come back: a tired will to continue protecting what they need to.
rather than sign, they let the story leave their lips as smoothly they can: “ w-we’re on the surface. ” (we’re free, they’d say if they haven’t heard that in murderous intent dozens times over.) and then they do stop.
--and they dread it silently. their options, laid out, narrow: “ you're alive " turns to " you survived" turns to " you died ". a u-turn down.
“ ...you’re probably hungry. ” the only thing they could pin together. like habit, they keep their pockets full of hoarded junk -- and snacks. they pass up the op’ to raid the fridge, because leaving her all alone after what’s happened is a stupid idea.
there is... chunks of pie in a box (Toriel-made-- and it could bring up Bad memories) and their trusty dagger (unfortunately inedible, ha) and a hotcat.
