I don’t remember the last time I had any real social visits here in the Priory. Most of the time my research is a lonely endeavor, well save for Meeko, though he doesn't really strike up much conversation. My last trip out yielded some interesting samples, all jarred and marked not so differently than how I’d do for the Vanguard when I was still there. I miss them and being able to work with a larger team even if I made for a poor soldier. I was better at avoiding trouble than trying to confront it. That said, I was both happy, and reserved when Neil visited, well he doesn't really ‘visit’ unless he needs help, but its something to do. Color me surprised that its not his usual type or request, something for the First, or at least the captain. Sin is needed to get home as soon as possible from Orr, and the quickest way was through the private asura gates in Fort Trinity. Not a huge favor to ask, but its rather sweet of Neil to go out of his way. I got to see some old faces too which was nice. Harlow looked absolutely mortified when I broke the news to him that his wife was in labor. Van looked rather calm as usual, at least until I hugged him, then he started looking a little awkward. I should plan a visit sometime to see how everyone is doing. I still need to take Deveral on that camping trip. ( scoundrelcaptain vankeser devlomas )

Cousin Meilong sent word to the barracks the other day. Not something I had expected, but it was worth calling in a few favors to find and bring Harlow back in good time. Fortunately was able to contact Lynly quickly. I’ll repay her for the trouble another time.

The last batch of sprouts turned out well, and they weren't affected by the mordrem sample either. Myna will need another set I think, perhaps a different species so we can compare the results. I could go for some frosty air I think.

Someday

Funny how things turn out. Serving with the Vanguard was not what I had expected in many good ways. When I had been with the Priory, and the Pact in general we all played to our strengths, I could be on a field survey but I'd have a Vigil escort keeping me safe.

There is some self reliance to be remembered and honed in the Vanguard, much like the thoughts in the city, 'We stand on our own two feet' in more ways than one. I don't feel like I was able to help the Vanguard as much as I would have liked to. Branded are a constant menace, as are the mordrem creeping in on our borders. Ebonhawke is my home, and the best way I can defend it is being out there finding a solution.

Someday, I'll return. Perhaps as a Vanguard, or maybe something more simple. The skills I learned from Van and Zander won't go to waste if I can help it. I'll find a way to help them while I'm out here.

Note to self, need to remember to teach Deveral some survival skills. He seemed interested enough. Meeko seems to like him too.
