Summer Sternfeld was born to a hippie witch mother who was a former member of the Gemini Coven. She moved away from them to live her own life during the free love movement of the 60’s, and became pregnant with Summer in the outskirts of a town in Portland, Oregon. It was later discovered that Summer was a siphoner, her mother still loved her all the same, her extended family loathed her immensely.

One day in 1986, when she was 20, she was kidnapped by a vampire who pretended to be hurt on the road, he had been watching her for months, seeing that she was a siphoner and wanting to learn more about her. After keeping her locked away and testing her powers, he turned her, wanting her to be his own personal witch. Summer kept up the act for a little bit, but she ripped his heart out, walking away from that life. Returning home to her mother, she tells her what happened. Her mother still accepted her, she was her everything. But it wasn’t much longer until her mother fell terminally ill, not having much longer to live.

Summer stayed by her side for all of it, until her death in 1989. She was so angry, she couldn’t kill anyone for revenge, magic couldn’t even save her. After her funeral, she went on to live like a vampire does, drinking blood and finally practicing magic, something that she has been kept from her whole life, due to her special nature. Over the years, she gives in to her vampire side more, almost ignoring her powers out of spite for her family who cast her out. She enrolled herself in the Salvatore School to help her learn more about magic and her powers.

“Oh I’m so sorry. That must have been so hard to deal with,” Tessa said, genuinely feeling pain for what the young woman was feeling. She gently hugged her, hoping that she was okay with that. “You two must have really been in love. And you respected her decision, which is very good.”

“I just...I just hate that she was taken away from me.” Summer said as she sighed, taking in the hug from the other. It had been so long, almost 50 years. But she felt those emotions so heavily from that long ago. “AIDS is horrible. It’s taken so many lives from me.”

“They just weren’t ready to admit that I was better than they could ever hope to be,” Kai said, shoulders straightening just a touch as he did. Because he was, wasn’t he? Not bothered by pesky things like guilt or love - he could do whatever he wanted, when he wanted, without having to waste time thinking about what sort of effect it had on other people. “I didn’t. Say my name, that is.” His head canted to the side just a touch, before he was offering a simple, “I’m Kai.”

“Kai Parker.” Summer said with a smile as she realized who he was. “I had a feeling it was you, I used to babysit you. Your parents dropped you off at my mom’s house when they went to Gemini meetings in the city because I was a siphoner too.”

Tessa had been out for a run, something she had taken up years ago and was finally getting back into. She vaguely recognized the girl on the pier, crying and so distraught. She jogged over, putting a gentle hand on her shoulder. “What happened? Who are you talking about?”

Summer sniffled as she felt the hand on her shoulder. “Emma, my girlfriend, my first love. She died, she got sick. I couldn’t do anything about it, turning her would be too cruel. Not unless she asked me for it. I don’t blame her for not wanting it, no spell could help her either. A true cancer, a virus.”

The confidence that Summer has gained over the decades has taken practice, lessons that were learned after the most traumatic times of her life. Being a young vampire didn’t help with dealing with her emotions, watching her human friends drop dead like flies. The AIDS epidemic struck the LGBTQ+ community like a nuclear bomb. Summer lost almost everyone that she cared about, she didn’t want to turn off her emotions. Her human friends didn’t get to, she shouldn’t have to either. 

That emotional vulnerability and sensitivity hit her like a brick wall when she woke up in the morning. Summer felt weak, hopeless, defeated. Memories rushing in of members of her chosen family and community being sick, dying in the street, she was 25 again. Her first love had just died in her arms. Running onto the pier, to look out at the sea, the sun reflecting on it, she burst into tears. “Emma!” Taking deep breaths in between teary cries, she closes her eyes. “No!” Holding her stomach, she felt like she had been stabbed. “They’re gone. They’re dead, a slow, painful death.”

rebekah​:

Rebekah was surprised by Summer’s bold moves but not shocked, Summer was much alike her, good at the flirting game; but Rebekah invented the game. She let out a small laugh after the other did the little trick with the champagne from her lips, Rebekah’s eyes now focusing strictly on Summer’s pinkish plump lips. “Well, let’s just say you have my full attention, love.” one brow instantly lifted as her hand that was previously in Summer’s hair was now sliding down, pushing her long hair back and exposing the neck, then going down to her shoulder and then sides, eventually reaching Summer’s waist. Her other hand followed as they both locked around Summer’s middle, pulling her even closer than before, with one quick move. There was no more space left in between them, Rebekah towering before Summer as their faces were so close now, it took an actual effort not to kiss. But instead, the blonde tilted her head, digging into Summer’s neck and leaving kisses all over it before lifting her face back up and pressing her lips gently onto Summer’s, for a quick second. “You’re absolutely adorable, now come join me in the hot tub?” 

Just as she intended, Rebekah was in her grasp. When she felt the kisses being placed all over her neck, she closed her eyes and smiled a bit, letting out a little moan. When the other quickly kissed her lips, Summer opened her eyes again. “I’m right behind you, don’t worry.”

An overly dramatic, happy gasp escaped Kai’s lips - though it was more artificial than anything else. “This is the best news I’ve heard all week. Other than, you know, the whole ‘hey you’re not dead’ thing, which I guess wouldn’t count because no one actually told me, I just sort of figured it out-” Shut up, Kai. “The last of us I was around ended up very, very dead, for the most part, so I’m enjoying the whole ‘not the only one’ thing we’ve got goin’ on here for me.”

Someone else like her? He must be a Gemini then, Summer hadn’t heard of anyone else that was a siphoner, let alone a heretic other than Avalon. “Another Gemini reject then, huh?” This man seemed familiar, she couldn’t quite pinpoint it. “What did you say your name was?” Listening to him talk, she kept getting closer to getting who he was, but it was on the tip of her tongue. “I’m Summer.”

She was feeling hot - and Winter had to force herself to take a breath and calm down, fearful of making a complete and utter fool of herself in front of the other, her head cocking to the side just a touch. “That is-” She swallowed thickly. “I would probably say that no, I haven’t.” God, was she even making sense? She wasn’t entirely sure - and more afraid of admitting that than anything else. “Are you… always like this?”

Summer chuckled in a low tone, amused with the other’s answer, having it fall right where she wanted it to. “Well...I can make sure that you finish every meal.” The blonde said as she moved closer to the other, looking down at her lips. “Not always, just when I really want something.” Her eyes moved up to look at hers. “Or someone.”

A pink hue spread over Winter’s cheeks when the other female spoke, tiny yelp being swallowed down in an attempt not to embarrass herself completely. “That is-” What was she even going to say? She wasn’t quite sure - it was probably pointless to even try to figure it out, because she’d just be stumbling over her words before she actually figured it out. “I’m usually not a messy eater.” At least, not around other people - when they were actually paying attention to her.

Summer looked the girl up and down and smirked as the girl stuttered on her words. “Well...” She said as she tucked a piece of hair behind the other’s ear. “It seems like you’ve never finished...” Her finger lightly touched Winter’s jawline, lightly dragging to her chin, lightly holding it. “...eating.” A sly giggle escaped her mouth as she moved her finger away from her face.

Summer closed her eyes for a moment to compose herself. Not that she wasn’t used to this kind of attention, its that she wasn’t used to it in public. “Miss, if you were just reading then why are there books everywhere” this was still her job and even though she could compel people to forget… she was trying to be good.

“I walked into this mess. Don’t blame me.” Summer said, shrugging. “Although the thought did cross my mind. If I were to make a mess to purposefully to spend some alone time with you. Detention of some sort.” She said, looking her up and down, not even trying to hide her bitten bottom lip.

“Oh, I’m the best of both worlds, sweetheart.” His head tilted just a touch, wicked grin spreading over his lips to reveal the hint of a fang as black veins began to spread out from his eyes. “I believe there was a period of time where teen girls everywhere referred to it as ‘undead sex appeal’? And all the epic witchy woo I could ever want.”

Summer smirked as she listened to him talk. “What a coincidence.” The whites of her eyes became red, those same black veins appearing under her eyes. She put her pointer finger in the air and made a little flame appear on the tip. “Me too, sweets.”

Her eyes went back up to lock with hers as she put what was on her bottom lip in her mouth. “Mmm, strawberry. My favorite.” Her eyes darted down to her lips, and then back up to her eyes, giving the other a wink.

Autumn was shelving books at the library when she heard a ruckus in the stacks. “ is you are doing something you shouldent be, you have about 5 seconds”

“Is there something wrong with a little reading?” Summer said, as she stopped what she was doing and approached the other slowly. She had seen her before, and knew she worked in the library, very cute. “Are you gonna punish me?” She said, with a hunger in her eyes as she looked her up and down.
