If they had wanted us to like them together, they would have written them in a way that was likable. When a show/movie wants them to be together as a real couple, they’ll do it, but that’s not the point Mystery Inc was trying to make, Velma knew what a relationship was supposed to be, so she tried to emulate that instead of having a relationship she wanted to have, that’s why she was so controlling and ‘out of character’ in her relationship with Shaggy. I think it’s a hard to understand topic for a kids’ show that could easily be misinterpreted by a lot of people, especially since many consider SDMI Velma to be a lesbian, so her spending so long trying to have a relationship with Shaggy could definitely be confusing, I’ve seen a lot of people who didn’t really get it, but I promise there’s a reasons he acts that way. They’re teenagers. They don’t know what they’re doing, Velma wants to be an adult and wants to feel like an adult, and to her that’s what an adult relationship is. I could write an essay on this topic, but I digress

I’ve watched seven episodes of “Scooby Doo and Guess Who?” And here’s my findings so far:

Daphne Blake:

-Alfred Pennyworth (Batman’s butler) is her sort-of uncle/temporary butler/family friend/substitute polo player

-She speaks 76 languages

-She can kind of fight, but she closes her eyes when she does

Velma Dinkley:

-She can identify the make, model, and stress level of a fan by sound for some reason

-She knows an insane amount of things that she totally should not know, but that’s just Scooby Doo for you

Fred Jones:

-Doesn’t understand sarcasm

-Shaggy calls him Freddy (this will be important later)

-The mystery machine has a secret parachute

-He painted the mystery machine himself (no surprise there)

-Fred hates being left out by everyone else because they do everything together (he gets separation anxiety)

-He doesn’t like letting other people drive the van

-Do people headcanon him as autistic? Because I think it makes sense

Shaggy Rogers:

-He’s read every Sherlock Holmes book and his a huge nerd

-“Pretty clear I have no pride, because I am not above eating a dumpster burger”

-Gets separation anxiety when Scooby is gone

-Shaggy used to be a golf caddy for basketball legend Chris Paul, who is a close friend of his

-He was a famous golf caddy with fans

Scooby Doo:

-He has a smart phone

-He has a genuine Scooby Snacks addiction and goes through withdrawals after going without them for a few hours

-Wanda Sykes tried to adopt him and he turned her down because he didn’t want to leave Shaggy

-He is not immune to toxic masculinity

I’m working on an art project and the rest of the characters have pretty obvious main colors (purple and green for Daphne, Orange and red for Velma), but I’m struggling to choose two colors for Fred, I’m leaning towards white and orange myself.

DAPHNE BLAKE IS NOT AN AIRHEAD. FOR FUCK’S SAKE LET PRETTY GIRLS BE SMART. Daphne is smart and strong and capable. I’m watching Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo right now and it’s pissing me off because both Fred and Daphne are implying that Daphne never does and never has done anything. I grew up on WNSD, SDWAY, and goddamned Sarah Michelle Gellar (if you’ve seen my other posts, you should know exactly how I feel about her), and I know for a fact that Daphne Blake is not useless or stupid. She is clumsy and danger prone, she’s the one that gets kidnapped. She’s also the the one who can fight and the only one who’d carry a gun. She is brave and she could kick your ass. She speaks 76 languages, is a talented martial artist with little to no training, has been riding a motorcycle since she was five years old, and she went up against a villain all by herself armed with nothing but BAMF-ness and a hair dryer. She gets hurt and she becomes the damsel in distress, but she’s also the white knight if anyone else is in distress. She’s an adrenaline junkie who loves roller coasters, she’s danger prone, and she’s a BAMF. I’d also like to submit a petition here that Daphne Blake has ADHD. She has more hobbies than possible for a neurotypical, she’s an adrenaline junkie, she’s danger-prone, and she’s clumsy. Anyway, I should probably wrap this up:

Fred is the leader/trap-builder, Shaggy is the coward/bait, Velma is the genius, and Daphne is the Badass/knows how to do whatever the plot requires.

TLDR:

Daphne Blake isn’t a useless airhead, she was played by motherfucking Buffy. She can fight, she’s smart, and she knows how to do more things than any human should.
