Franschhoek and Aquilla
Haven’t blogged a thing for a while. I’ve tried too but internet has been really patchy. So we went to Franschhoek wine region with Dan, Kim, Olivia and Baby David. We stayed for two nights in an adorable little chalet at Riverside Chalets. We had rooms that were levelled out at about fifty thousand degrees celcius each, which didn’t matter because the pool was the equivalent but in the minus. The resident dogs, a kelpie cross and a St Bernard, were extremely friendly and ate all our left overs… With the exception of crisps… Go figure.
While there we visited several wineries and drank/bought a fair amount of wine. The culmination of which was a drunk video to update tumblr… It wouldn’t upload. I’m hoping to get it up (pun intended) ASAP.
The most interesting thing about the town was that they clearly didn’t get the memo that Apartheid was over… I was in heaven (From an outsiders point of view this was fascinating, plus I’m a little racist I think). There was a distinct black and white side of town and the liquor store was still divided and each respective side still being used by the corresponding colour. It went as far as Dan being told he came in the wrong side. Kim went shopping at the black pick’n’pay and felt a little put of place. Didn’t put her off though.
We had a couple of nights of drinking over a Brai and it was Jesus.
We went our separate ways on Sunday and Jon and I headed to Aqulia private game reserve for a night. We went on a couple of driven safaris and a horse back one. We had an awesome little cabin nestled into the mountain side which had an outdoor shower and jacuzzi…. Being the exhibitionist I am that made me very happy. I paraded around naked in the moonlight for half the night.
We were lucky enough to see, Lions, Rhinos, A Giraffe, Springbok, Wildebeest, Hippos, Zebra, A Leopard, Buffalo, Osterich, Eland, Some Crocodiles, and Some Cheetahs. Watching Jonathan ride was not as funny as I thought it would be, he didn’t fall off. Despite a wonky saddle….
All the time we’ve had great food, great wine and great laughter. I’m fat.
Back in Hout Bay now, chillaxin’ with some more alcohol.
Love and kisses.
Me and him.
Dinner roll rat thing
Nelson has a lot of sass.
Lunch and drinks at "The Meeting Place" and "Two and Sixpence Pub".
Hiking around the cape of good hope.
Cable Cars and Witch Doctors
Just sitting and relaxing over a Lime Southern Comfort. Today Jonathan and I went to Table Mountain. Caught the cable car up to the top and spent a fair part of the morning wandering around discussing how similar the scrub was to Perth. Took quite a few snaps of the view but seeing as neither of us thought to bring a computer teh pics need to stay on the camera until we go home. Quick Cosmos and Long Island Ice Teas, Sushi and then home. Me being me, I managed to bring enough panadeine to make chapelle look like a personal user but neglected to bring my anti depressants. Soooooo I attended the local community Doctor with Kim. To my surprise I was not confronted with a grass skirt or bone through the nose but a quite humorous and civilised actual doctor. He was happy to prescribe my pills. To end he day we had a lovely dinner with Dan, Kim and the kids at Spiros. Love those guys. Good people.
A time for change.
Spent my first night in South Africa. I probably went a little overboard with the locking And barring of windows but it gave me the peace of mind for a good nights sleep. The result of which is that I have woken up to realise that there really is no need for that much anxiety. The sun was up, the air was cool and Jonathan was his usual chirpy morning self.
I’m finding the country beautiful so far and a bit of a confronting reflection on my own attitudes and pre conceived ideas.
Off to table mountain today hopefully to ride the cable car.
After our stop over at JoBurg we got our flight to Cape Town and picked up the hire car. We argued like and old couple trying to navigate our way from the airport to Hout Bay.... FYI I was right about the turn off :-P (Wrong about some other insignificant stuff like stop signs and giving way ;-P)
I took these charming charming photos from the Jonathan's Brother and Sister in law's place. We spent last night having a chat and a drink. Well, they were all chatting, Scotti was busy on one of his drunk rants about racism. It's quite a hot topic here.
Quick photo update! Little niece Olivia and Nephew David. Having lunch in Hout Bay! More to follow later this evening!
Scotti calmed his nerves by taking photos at the Airports and between flights of guys either he and or Jon fancied.... And one Jach might....
Just waiting for my flight.
