love on the Nile
Away from the public eye, on those very hunting grounds the Emperor had to leave behind upon taking public office, a new champion is rising amidst the dangerous tides of the supernatural.
Once tamed by the man himself, the Aureati and the young demigod now protect the Empire from mythological threats only they know of.
i feel a bit silly saying this but i'm so excited to have found your art! i discovered persian rugs only very recently and fell absolutely in love so when i saw your store and how explicitly iranian its inspirations are i couldn't help but sweep through haha
tysm!! it's genuinely crazy how many different types of rugs fall under the category of "persian carpet" and they are truly an unending source of inspiration for me. there was a time when my art wasn't inspired or informed by iranian art and culture, and the idea of that is so foreign and odd to me now haha
here is a 3d rug i saw at the national carpet museum in iran 4 years ago that i think about daily
life on rugs, 21st century by various photographers (unknown).
at this rate i’ll never be free.
Criside is dressed like a little tanagra figurine in Polidoro's Satyricon😭🥹oh my girl
saul goodman was the reincarnated soul of a roman senator in the late roman republic lost generation and i'll die convinced of this
At some point in ancient history a moral shift happened before what we think bc in Daphnis and Chloe (a late Greek tale written around the 3rd century AD - very lovely btw) there's this kinda creepy guy who wants to make Daphnis his slave/concubine and the boy's reaction is not only fear and disgust (understandably) but he also explicitly states that kind of stuff is "against nature" - which sounds like a very traditionally christian thing to say. tho we're still very much in a pagan context mind you. maybe this is telling of the moral dichotomy between rural and rich environments, lower and upper class? (the two main characters are shepherds after all, while the other guy came from the city). idk I've always found this detail quite interesting
I hope it's interesting context and not annoying to add, but this comes up a lot in the Greek novels, where there is some sort of debate or questioning of loving women vs loving boys (achilles tatius has a famous one)! as you say there is definitely a class difference, which feels in line with Longus' exaggeration of the rural shepherds' ignorance compared to people from the city. When the same "against nature" point arises in other sources, other speakers answer by saying that humans are superior to animals and therefore shouldn't follow animals as examples. (And needless to say no part of this holds up today lol.) It's usually a philosophical exercise and statement on what the speaker individually finds appealing/acceptable, rather than reflecting an actual societal intolerance at the time. Sorry for the paragraph but I love daphnis and chloe and there are SO many fascinating details like this in the novel😭❤️i had to take the opportunity to talk about it :p

Lays of ancient Rome
Nero's Rome is the setting of Petronius's celebrated work and we understnad that Polidoro, keeping strictly to the text , has recreated Nero's Rome at its decadence and when a new cultural civilization was beginning to see the light.
Says Polidoro: "I have changed nothing. I intend to make a realistic film within the limits of the picaresque story. As for the style I can't really know, except that I see it as a science fiction film, for after all, Pre-Christian society is completely strange to us, even more remote than the moon".
