this video ferrari just posted 😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
being an athletic prodigy is a marketable quality on its own only if you’re a man. but not only do women have to be ten times more talented than men, they’ve also got to be pretty to be marketable. and marketability is everything in this sport. maya (and all these women) deserve so much better.
Maya Weug is being Cut Out by Motorsport and Scuderia Ferrari
Maya Weug will no longer race in 2026, and has opened up about failed plans after her 2025 vice championship season in F1 Academy. She was left on her own; with no support. Weug has publicly requested for teams and sponsors to reach out to her. The plans that were originally in place were pulled out from under her and she scrambled for a seat. Now even that has gone away.
Maya Weug is one of the greatest talents of her generation. She was abandoned by Scuderia Ferrari. They dropped her unceremoniously with not a single explanation.
Maya doesn’t deserve this, she has more talent in her pinky finger than most other drivers have in their whole body. The fact that she has had resorted to public pleading to save her career is disappointing and at the same time, an all too familiar occurrence for female drivers.
I think we should be criticizing sponsors and f1 teams/driver academies for f1a drivers’ failure to move on past f1a. Blaming f1 academy is misguided to me. Maybe f1 academy could be questioned for continuing to partner with sponsors that emphasize traditional femininity and beauty standards. But even then, maybe these brands are the only options available? Are other gender neutral brand sponsors interested in supporting f1a the way they support men? And it’s the teams responsibility to continue to support their drivers through the junior ranks. F1 academy is giving funding, visibility, access, and f1 team partnerships to their drivers (and supporting several karting series) What more is f1a supposed to do? One junior series cannot by itself change decades of sexism. They cannot push drivers up the junior series ladder without the full committed support of sponsors and f1 teams. The sponsors and f1 teams need to step up and do their part to support female drivers beyond f1 academy. They are where the blame needs to placed.
I think this is part of a much larger conversation we need to have about F1 academy and women in motorsports.
Despite being in the title fight for F1 academy and showing such amazing talent Maya has no real seat. So many of the F1 academy girls get dropped from their teams once they time out of F1 academy. And even if they stay within gb3 or similar series a majority of them aren't backed by the teams that backed them in F1 academy.
Doriane won the championship last year and yet she's only done 4 races within Le Mans LMP2. Lia Block is back in rally which she was already doing prior to F1 academy. Abbi Pulling and Aurelia Nobles are both in Gb3 but neither are with their F1 driver academy anymore. I just hate how F1 gets to basically use F1 academy to claim they are inclusive yet 90% of the F1 academy drivers are dropped once they finish their 2 seasons in F1 academy.
Like this is one of the only sports where gender doesn't matter in terms of ability and yet it is so behind in inclusivity. F1 academy is good in theory but it really needs to restructure in a way that helps the girls continue through junior series to reach the higher series.
I’m pissed.
Just to name a few:
Oscar Piastri did A-levels in Maths, Physics and Computer Science
Arvid Lindblad either did or is currently doing A-levels in maths and chemistry
Carlos Sainz was forced by his dad to get to a uni entrance exam, meaning he has finished school and has the required qualifications.
Yuki Tsunoda WENT to uni and dropped out for racing.
Nico Rosberg rejected an offer from Imperial College London to study some sort of engineering.
While not having A-levels (which aren’t even compulsory so idk what Wolff is on about) Lewis Hamilton, Oliver Bearman and George Russell all have their GCSEs. Lando Norris is actually the only current British driver (Including Alex Albon) to NOT have his GCSEs. Pierre Gasly has the Baccalaureate. Charles did whatever they do in Monaco i don’t know. Fernando Alonso and Nico Hulkenberg both finished secondary education. Liam Lawson did education in NZ before moving to Europe. Lance Stroll did his education in Switzerland.
There are actually only 7 drivers who didn’t complete compulsory education. Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, Esteban Ocon, Sergio Perez, Gabriel Borteleto, Franco Colapinto and Isack Hadjar.
68.2% of the current grid completed compulsory education. And then there’s also Nico Rosberg cause i love that guy and wanted to bring him up!

Arvid Lindblad appreciation post
it's so interesting how george had to get sponsors to keep his career going so he signed his management rights away to mercedes. it's so interesting how esteban and all the 'second red bull drivers' that organization chewed up and spit out did the same and how yuki was stuck with them. it's so interesting how kimi and max have their own management teams that can threaten their teams and get a say in when the driver gets a penalty. because they have Connections in motorsports, you see. it's just all so interesting
