A few years ago I did this sketch/painting of myself on an old board in my studio. I was very sad at the time and it definitely shows. This reminds me of how much I adore oil painting. It's also an example of me painting from life, since I typically work from old photographs for my portraits. Picasso said that painting is just another way of keeping a diary, and this diary entry carries vivid memories of a different time and place for me. I'm so happy to have rediscovered it today!
This is the first painting I've started in awhile that has me truly excited for what may emerge. It is also the first portrait I've tackled in years. The image is from one of my favorite photographs of my Mother as a young woman. I'll be adding various symbols and images that represent her to me, personally. I'm also working with acrylics in this piece which will be a challenge as I usually prefer oil paint when doing portraits. I hope this to be the start of a new and cathartic series for me. 💛
Last night my friends and I played with paint.
When the winter blues hit hard, fight back with yellow paper.
Today, I woke up and thought of the performance artist Karen Finley. God, wouldn’t it feel good if my only goal for the day was to cover myself in honey and sprinkle glitter and confetti on top? Damn. Nevermind. It’s still too cold outside for that.
Flashback!
Continued work on my nautilus painting! 😃
Two closeups from an old watercolor block. Sketches from 2010 - aw yeah.
A baby willow tree.
I kept working on my citrine after I got home.
Today on my break at work...

Here’s a vintage sketch of mine.
Made some progress on my nautilus shell painting. Late evening studio sesh for the win. 😆
Another cold day spent carving!
Right before completion and then finally finished with a shakily stamped test print. 😚
