This was going to be a pain to clean up, but Cas liked cleaning, so that was okay. Besides, they were having fun and that was the important part. Unbeknownst to him, he’d been messier than he thought and there was a dollop of bright red frosting on his cheek. He giggled after. “We can. Eat some. And then. Whatever’s left. We can share!”

Laurent was giggling the whole time when he pointed at the red frosting on Cas’s cheek, already reaching to wipe it off when at the last minute, he dipped his finger at the purple frosting and made a matching line on Cas’s other cheek. “Of course! And if they like it, we can bake some more too. There’s plenty to go around.”

Cas grinned as Laurent laughed and beamed at the other camper, happily enjoying the moment. He peered at the various decorations with wide, delighted eyes. He had no idea what most of them were meant to be used for, but they looked like fun. He giggled again as he reached for some, wholly clueless in how to decorate a cookie properly but enjoying himself anyway. Most of them ended up looking messy, a combination of his careless enthusiasm and shaking hands, but that didn’t matter much to him at the moment.

Laurent still made a lot of mess but at least he was happy-- he was happy with the tea and the cookies and just Cas having a lot of fun too. This was the messiest he’s ever been while baking but there was color everywhere and he was beaming so hard his cheeks hurt. “Hey, are you ready to eat all of this? Or should we stop by and give some to your boyfriend too?” The unclaimed camper joked.

Cas looked at Laurent and then hesitantly high-fived him. He giggled after and looked at the cookies. “They look. Very yummy!” He was excited to eat them, actually. He watched Laurent decorate the cookies intently, vividly curious. He didn’t think his own cookies would be nearly as nice, but he was excited to try anyway. “Sprinkles! Those are. Also fun!”

The high-five just made him grin, but the giggle after just made him laugh because it was cute. He didn’t know that a single high-five could cause that. Once he was done with his own cookie, he brought out a tray full of cookie decorations from the pantry, letting Cas choose and go wild with whatever design he wanted. Even if they’re probably both gonna end up using way too much decoration, the cookie would still be delicious.

Cas crept over to the cookies and looked at them before looking at Laurent. “We made them!” Well, Laurent had made them and Cas had been there for moral support, but that counted, right? He giggled after and looked down once more. “Yes! Show me?” He hadn’t the faintest idea how to start decorating the cookies, but he was very excited to learn if Laurent was willing to show him. He beamed at the other camper happily.

Laurent grinned and held his hand up for a high five since the two of them had made it after all. “We did! And we didn’t manage to burn any of the cookies.” Which still happened to him sometimes, he admitted sheepishly. He usually burnt a few when he baked alone but everything was perfect. “Okay, let me get the sprinkles too.” Reach for them, he grabbed the purple icing first and started to draw a smiley face on the cookie.

Cas smiled as Laurent blushed and hoped that the other camper understood that he meant it as a genuine compliment. He looked at the cookies after and giggled. “I won’t tell!” Smiley faces sounded doable, so Cas decided to try that. “Mine probably won’t. Be very good. But they will. Still be tasty!” And that was the most important part, he thought.

Laurent laughed when Cas said he wouldn’t tell– he didn’t want to attempt that at all because he would definitely get struck by something by some god. Or cause a natural accident just because some god thought it was really funny. “Hey, I’m sure the colors will be pretty. And it’ll be delicious because you made them.” The unclaimed camper assured his friend with a grin. “Are you ready?”

Cas listened to Laurent hum, his fingers suddenly itching for a pencil to write down the music that he could hear. “You have a. Very pretty voice.” He smiled sweetly to Laurent and then looked at the cookies with wide eyes. He hadn’t thought about that. “I don’t know… I’ve never decorated. Cookies before!” At least, not that he could remember, but remembering that he couldn’t remember hurt, so he more or less tried to ignore it now. “What are you. Going to do?”

Laurent felt himself blush because nobody has really told him that before. Nobody has heard him sing like that before, and he only sand alone. It was a surprise to him that he was even humming. “Well, I guess I can just put color then draw smiley faces on the others because I really can’t draw at all. I can try to draw Mr. D for fun but he might trample me because of how ugly the drawing is.”

Cas didn’t always like the silence- sometimes it felt oppressive and it pulled on something in the back of his head that just felt bad- but he liked loud noises even less, so quiet was okay. He smiled up at Laurent and nodded. “Okay!” He wasn’t much of a baker, so he’d happily follow Laurent’s decisions, especially because it meant not having to make any decisions himself.

Laurent was happy to wait for the cookies to cool, humming under his breath as the two of them waiting. Though the colors were ready so he was just placing the bowls of colors in their work area so they were already in better reach. “Are you going to just swirl all the colors together? Or are you going to draw characters or something?”

Cas was still extremely startled and he sometimes felt bad about it, especially because he didn’t even know why he was so scared all of the time. It was terrible, but he wasn’t sure how to stop it. He smiled sweetly to Laurent instead of lingering on that because Laurent was very sweet and Cas loved him very much. “You are. Very sweet.” And he was. Cas watched Laurent take the cookies out and admired them with a tiny noise of happiness because they already looked yummy and they smelled even better.

Laurent revelled in the silence sometimes though he’s had a lot of that in the past. It was different here though because he knew that the silence could be filled by noise, whether it was the forge or just campers cheering. “We can let them cool and then set aside some to be plain and the other for decorating?” He suggested as he looked at Cas, already wanting to taste the cookies because they smelled delicious.

Cas was quietly grateful that Laurent stopped the timer before it actually went off because he really didn’t like the noise, but he’d been prepared to deal with it for Laurent’s sake. Not having to do so was just a blessing and he was more than happy to lean right back into the hug, squeezing Laurent gently. “I like hugs. And thank you. For the noise.” Or, rather, for stopping it, but that was more words and he was pretty sure that Laurent understood what he meant anyway because Laurent was a smart cookie. 

Laurent would notice that Cas got startled by the simplest things and he knew that the timer would startle him. While baking sometimes, that even happened to him. “Hey, I’m the one that’s living in your cabin, the least I could do is not make noise. Especially when it gets overwhelming just stepping outside of the cabin.” The loud campers, the sound of weapons hitting other weapons, it overwhelmed him sometimes and the Eirene cabin was one of his safe havens. Turning off the oven, Laurent got the tray and placed it carefully on the cooling rack.

Cas hummed happily to Laurent and squeezed him once more. “Okay! And you can. Do the same. I love hugs.” With certain people, at least, but Laurent was one of those people, so Cas didn’t see the point of explaining the semantics of it. He’d be more than happy to give Laurent all the hugs he could, whenever Laurent wanted. “Mmm, okay. Cookies first, then hugs!” That was an acceptable compromise, so he let go and shimmied out of the way, ending up over by the table because he didn’t know where else to go.

Laurent was looking right at the timer to stop it just before it rang, just so it wouldn’t startle Cas. He knew how easily startled the son of Eirene was and he doesn’t want to ruin this moment. Pulling out the tray from the oven, he placed it on the island to let it cool first. “Okay, we have to let it cool so we can have hugs again.” Laurent didn’t even wait before pulling the other camper into a hug again.

Cas positively lit up as Laurent gave him permission to give all the hugs. “I love hugs!” And if Laurent wanted, Cas was more than willing to give him all the hugs all the time. Laurent definitely needed the hugs- everyone needed the hugs, but Cas thought that maybe Laurent needed a few more and he was plenty will to give them. He giggled softly as Laurent pulled him into a hug and he squeezed the other camper back tightly, content to stay there for as long as he could.

“And you don’t have to ask again if you want to hug me, or if you want hugs. You can just come up to me and then hug.” Laurent assured Cas that he could do that freely. He thrived on contact and he never really got it before but now that Cas was open with affection too, he didn’t see the need to stop it now. “As much as I do love hugging, I think the cookies will be ready in a bit and I have to get them. Then we can hug again.”

Cas beamed as Laurent grinned at him because he was happy that Laurent was happy. His smile brightened as Laurent spoke and he shimmied over. “Can I give. You a hug?” Because Laurent certainly deserved all the hugs. Cas loved him very much and he was having a wonderful time right now. “Cookies and tea. And Laurent! All is perfect.”

“Of course! You can give me all the hugs because I love them. I practically thrive on them.” Laurent grew up not getting any affection from anyone just because they thought he was crazy with the ghosts and the monsters. He hated it very much when all he needed was just a hug. Before Cas even leaned towards him for the hug, Laurent was already pulling him into a hug. “All is perfect.”

Cas beamed back at Laurent, dancing in place a little because he was excited and enthused and overall just having a wonderful time. “This is. Very exciting!” He giggled after and danced his way over towards the tea to check on it, quite content with his life at the moment.

Laurent couldn’t help but grin when Cas started to dance a little bit just because he had found the right shade of purple for the cookies. He wouldn’t mind if all the cookies were that color just to make the son of Eirene happy, if he was being honest. “Cookies and tea. Honestly, I couldn’t think of anything better right now aside from spending time with you.”

Cas giggled at Laurent after and then looked down at the food colouring. He swirled in a bit more white and smiled happily. He was more than pleased with the colour. “I did it!” He beamed after, excited. “Thank you!” He would hug Laurent, but he was afraid of risking the food colouring and didn’t want to spill it.

Laurent practically beamed at Cas when the sugar icing looked perfect-- it was the perfect shade of light purple just like his hoodie. Now he was just more excited to decorate the cookies which were already close to done. It didn’t really take long to bake and so he was happy and really looking forward to decorate the cookies with Cas. “I’m pretty excited already.”

Cas beamed at Laurent, trusting everything he said because Laurent was smart and wonderful. He didn’t really know how the whole thing with electronics worked, but if Laurent said it was all right, then he’d take it. He accepted the mixing bowl and peered into it before hesitantly reaching for the food colouring. It really was quite fun to mix, even if he only had the barest idea of what he was doing. He giggled. “How does it look?”

Laurent looked at Cas when he beamed at him, wanting that to be the expression on his cabin-mate’s face all the time. He deserved it after all the shit he has been through that Laurent still didn’t know about. Not that he would ever ask the other anything about it. Watching as the other started to mix the colors, he could see how close it was to the color of his hoodie. “It looks good! Although you can add just a few more drops of white so it’ll get as light as your hoodie.”

Cas thought about that and frowned a little, but he supposed that maybe it made sense. “Maybe we can. Look it up?” And if Winston couldn’t come, well, maybe they could plan for two days and go to the park for one of them. He giggled and shimmied over to the counter, peering at the colours. “How do I. Do that?” He looked up at Laurent, practically bouncing with excitement.

“We could, we’re well inside the borders of camp so at least we can look it up.” Laurent would have to ask Devin if Winston was a service dog, at least they could have another day planned out if they weren’t allowed to bring Winston. Maybe Cas would agree to that. Bringing out the colors for light purple, he pushed the large mixing bowl and the rest of the ingredients towards Cas. “All you have to do is mix the purple with a fuck ton of white, actually.”

Cas considered that for a moment and hummed a bit. “Are dogs allowed. In the museum?” Because if so, he could invite Winston and Devin, which would be fun! Or maybe just Devin, but he wanted to make sure that there were enough numbers so that no one got left out. That was important for reasons he couldn’t quite recall. He could see if Hans or Artem weren’t busy, but they were busy often and…he didn’t really know anyone else. Sure, other people knew him, but that meant very little now so he didn’t say anything. He peered at the colours instead and prodded at a shade of purple. “Can we make. Light purple?” He gestured to his hoodie, a soft lilac colour that miraculously had yet to pick up any stains.

“I’m not sure if they would actually let dogs inside the museum. Maybe service dogs? I don’t know if they would let Winston in though, unless he’s a service dog and I don’t know?” Laurent wished they were able to bring Winston though because it would seem like a fun day. And Cas would be able to spend time with Devin too, who seamed like a great person. One glance at the hoodie just made the unclaimed camper grin in excitement before bringing out the colors needed. “You can mix the colors this time!”
