" Bad things should happen to bad people. " " Rich tits always try for more than they deserve " " Whatever the truth is, that belief gives you power. " " Can’t you see why I want nothing to do with that life? “ " I have seen the throne of the gods, and it was empty. " " I will not suffer even an unknowing rival. You must die! “ " Tell me… where is your Maker now? Call him, call down his wrath upon me! You cannot. For he does not exist! “ " Common ground is the start of all negotiations. " " Though darkness closes, I am shielded by flame. “ " It spoke of judgement instead of acceptance. It should encourage the good in everyone, rather than rebuke us for our sins. No one should be turned away from our doors. No one is without worth. Whoever you are, whatever your mistakes, you are loved. Unconditionally. “ " If we’re going to change it, why not change the whole thing? “ " I’ve known mages. Some of them were better people than me. And yet I’m free and they’re not. It’s not right. “ " Sometimes you have to figure out for yourself what the pledge to protect others really means. “ " You are who you choose to follow. “ " Took me years to understand what he meant. “ " But wars are won by men. “ " You inspire them. “ " Build on that foundation, and you will have an army that makes nations tremble. “ " We all need to believe there are such men in the world. “ " I needed to believe I could be one of them. “ " We could make the world better. “ " It’s just easier to shut our eyes. “ " It’s not right… to want to do good, to be good, and have that turned against you. “ " At this moment, you are the only threat I see. “ " How seldom does reality match the ideal. “ " We must do so with open hearts and open hands. “ " I see what must be done, and I do it! I see no point in running around in circles like a dog chasing its tail. “ " At some point, power becomes its own master. “ " They will stand in the fire and complain that it is hot. “ " I want to help. “ " I used to be like you. I’m not anymore. You shouldn’t be either. “ " They forgot about him. “ " I came through to help… and I couldn’t. “ " Isn’t it wonderful? “ " Living a lie… it festers inside you, like poison. You have to fight for what’s in your heart. “ " It’s my duty to stand with you. “ " I’m here to set things right. Also? To look dashing. That part’s less difficult. " " We’re a lot more fragile than we’d like to believe. “ " Life isn’t about personal freedom. “ " People don’t always tell the truth when you’re polite. “ " We pick the ones willing to make the hard decisions… and live with the consequences. “ " Every great war has its heroes. I’m just curious what kind you’ll be. “ " No real god need prove himself. Anyone who tries is mad or lying. “ " I would not trade it for anything. “ " I hope there’s a damn good punchline coming. “ " The truly great ones can keep their distance. They don’t get attached to their people. “ " I always wind up babysitting my informants and worrying about their families. “ " Heroes are everywhere. I’ve seen that.” " That’s beyond heroes. We’re going to need a miracle. “ " For those who value survival, sentimentality is not an option. " " I’m never truly out of my element. “

Harsh winds whipped about the sand dunes, the flurry of sand and dust rising into the air in thick clouds that could smother. Endless hills stretched out before the group that was wandering throughout the sandstorm, all covered in thick cloaks and wraps to protect themselves from the harsh whipping of the sand. The low hanging sun in the sky announced that it would be dark soon, and that with night came the freezing cold. There had been promise of sanctuary on the other end of this desert, and there was no other hope but to move forward. Stripped and abandoned in this waste land, the group of twelve moved slowly onward. Some slowing and lagging behind, others carrying those to exhausted to carry on foot. It was then that one of the figures seemed to stop, body hunched over and head hung. Hades, cloaked in black with his face hidden behind its thick cloth, looked back his black eyes seeking out the fallen back companion. His tall figure moved as fast as possible, as he drew closer his voice drowned out from the others as they kept on. Leaning closer a hand gently placing upon the shoulder of the other, he spoke—voice semi loud.
“Are you okay to walk my friend?”
Gaia’s feet had been moving slowly, but steadily with her hands on someone’s elbow as they crossed the terrain, the only indication of day and night for her being the temperature. Normally she felt tough and resilient and though she moved slow she wasn't terribly weak. It wasn't until flashes of things she couldn't comprehend passed through her head that she was brought to her knees. She had been listening to the slow murmur of people’s words and footsteps to keep her on the right path and every once in a while someone would call her name to make sure she was following along. But when she fell to her knees, the sand pressed into her palms, the only part of her that had been left bare to the storms of the sand. She was fortunate not to have to worry about sand in her eyes, but to avoid too many questions, she kept herself covered completely from head to toe. She wrapped her fingers around the grains of sand before she nodded, and moved to hopefully get up. “I surely hope so.” Though when Gaia pushed against the ground to get up and begin walking again, she found she was just shy of being strong enough to get up. “I might need help standing up, however.”

He smiled in quiet amusement, tilting his head to the side to follow the expressions that crossed her features. “That must’ve been a terrible dream.”
Her confidence didn’t surprise him — instead, he seemed pleased by the gesture. The God had just introduced himself as the end of all things and she reached out a hand to him.
Death stepped closer to the seeress until he stood at an arm’s reach, leaning forwards then so that they could be at the same eye level. It might have looked like an irony to most that the seeress — that creature who saw so much — was blind, but he knew better. Looking at the bandages that covered the spots where her eyes should’ve, he wondered how long she would’ve lasted before she went mad if her eyes had been there.
“I didn’t mean the sight of the flesh. I have been around before. You recognized me, didn’t you?”
He straightened his back and set his sight upon her hand, ghosting his fingertips against her palm before dropping his hand in hers. His touch held no warmth.
“It’s nothing something you have done, but something I could do for you if you are willing to pay the price.”
She tilted her head to the side while she pondered his statement instead of just giving her answer and when she felt like she could adequately respond, she nodded. “It wasn’t pleasant. But I’ve not had pleasant dreams for many years. Dreaming about strangers that I’ll meet most likely in passing for only a fleeting moment is hardly relaxing. Especially when I’m dreaming about bankruptcy and stock market crashes.” The air around her moved when he stepped up to accommodate him and she was sure she could hear the breaths he only had to take to satisfy the meat suit that was wrapped around the very essence of death. The older got the more she realized how her eyes had only been a temporary tool, and often thought she functioned better without them. “Yes. You were there on Christmas Eve.” Now that she knew his presence, it was unmistakable that he’d been hanging around when the mafia came for her father and kidnapped both she and her mother. He’d been there as they stormed through the bulidling and slashed the throat of anyone who dared to look in their direction. But this went without saying because he being there meant he would have seen Gaia and he would have known what she was capable of then. It only made sense that her life had been spared for whatever bargain he wanted to strike today. “Name your p r i c e. I know what you’re here for.” When his cold fingers brushed against hers the images that flooded her mind made her gasp. She’d never been one to foresee the deaths of those around her, but suddenly she knew that the elderly couple would pass peacefully in their sleep tonight, and tomorrow the young tenant would be yanked from his car in a flurry of broken glass and shattered fiberglass. When she pulled her hand away, her shoulders were tense, though she didn’t say anything while she pulled herself back together. It wasn’t like she wasn’t used to violence (had even killed before to keep herself and others safe) but she’d never seen death as vividly as she had the night she lost her sight. And she wasn’t eager to see it again.
Cassandra visibly relaxed, her shoulders dropping. Without realizing it, she’d braced for some sort of impact, and she unclenched her fists and let out another breath. The girl’s voice had a gentleness Cass had not felt for some time. “Still, it was — it was rude,” she said. “Are you alright?”
“Just fine,” she assured the other, not even brushing the dust off herself. It wasn’t like she’d fallen or anything. She was standing perfectly still with her sunglasses perched on her nose and the walking stick poised in her hand. She didn’t need it, not really, but it was easier than keeping up with a dog, which she didn’t need either. “Oh, you’re hardly the most rude thing to have happened to me in years,” Gaia replied, giving a small smile. “You’re not in a rush are you? I certainly don’t mean to keep you.”
She’s got lions in her heart A fire in her soul
