someone on reddit picked up an extra denna laing poster and is sending it to me and I have ALL THE FEELS I love the internet some times.

when I was a kid I played rec league soccer and joy fawcett came to the league one saturday or something and signed my jersey and soccer ball and it was just the coolest thing. I had a USWNT calendar on my wall. I went to San Diego Spirit games with my parents and hung over the edge of the bleachers after games to get players to sign that same jersey. I saw Julie Foudy, Aly Wagner, Shannon Macmillan, and other women soccer stars and it was the coolest thing. On Girl Scout Night I think I remember even being able to go on the field!

In my eyes at that age I never noticed the attendance or compare everything to an MLS team. No. Instead I saw kettle corn, thundersticks, merch tents, giveaways, and professional athletes. In my mind this was exactly the same as an MLS team and I aspired to be a professional soccer player (I was never good enough, but I still knew it could happen). 

I love the CWHL and the NWHL because they are doing what the WUSA did for me with soccer with hockey for girls every where and I believe in the power of all of that like mad.

the thing that drives me crazy when looking at women in the sports industry is all these roles where gender literally should have no matter? like, i get it, if you want a former player to give analysis and it’s a men’s sport like okay so that’s gonna be a man.

but grounds crews! officials! sportswriters! physical therapy! equipment! 

literally no reason these should be so male dominated.
