#devil may cry #nero #nero's mother #lady in red dmc #commissioned art #the single mother au because i like pain #the thought of her teaching nero to shoot magic swords like his dad is funny to me #because i feel like when dante meets him he'll be even more instantly like yup that sure is my brother's son #also her trying to teach nero how to use yamato from whatever basics vergil taught her back when they were together #i imagine her own style of katana usage if she does leans closer to how bayonetta uses shuraba than how vergil uses yamato so lol #like she'd want to mimic him but she's much better at magic and range stuff than she is at melee stuff #she'd definitely at least try to replicate how elegant vergil executes his swordplay though #can't tell if this style when taught to nero will be better or worse than nero's own usage of his father's sword in actual dmc4 #but yeah she's so much going to want to encourage him to be close to things that remind her of his dad #and honestly i feel like even if she encourages him to love his father he'd still have a bit of resentment towards him #since he'd see his mother's constant melancholy and what she has to give up and go through to keep him #it is def fun to think what it'd do to his world view to be raised among witches that have varying views on normal people though #since i do think what contributes to him being relatively well adjusted was kyrie and credo's family's influence #he does know kyrie and credo in this AU though even if they didn't fully grow up together so they still have some influence #anyway deb is awesome again in bringing my silly ideas to life

There’s this thought that keeps circulating in my mind: how Nero experienced the worst of humanity but ended up embodying some of its best qualities.

He was bullied growing up because no one knew who his parents were and assumed that he was abandoned by them. Even while working for the Order, its members looked down on him because he was neither a believer nor a team player.

Despite being an outcast in Fortuna throughout his life, Nero didn’t become a cruel or callous person. Even though he isn’t a social person, when he does interact with others, he still treats them with respect. He loves Kyrie wholeheartedly. After learning the truth about Credo’s actions, Nero still felt immense guilt (and continues to) for not saving him. He looked after orphans after Fortuna was destroyed. Nero offered Vergil food, thinking he needed help. And even though he didn't trust V, he looked out for him and, later on, carried him to Urizen.

Yeah, Nero is often crass and cocky, but at his core, he's loyal, determined, passionate, and empathetic.
