That's Ben 10 for me
I'm big on authenticity. You may disagree but Ben is honestly, not offensive and more importantly, not pretentious. But a certain "love interest" of his does come across as both of these things. Only saying what I felt because apparently others don't point it out? (I could be wrong) It bothers me because despite what the writers may think or like, I was not able to justify despite the potential, and I'm someone who would even take a proper villain with Ben.
Is it just me or they changed Ben's hair type from straight to wavy between UA and OV?
Kai isn't bad but...
I gotta rant. I may be biased because I have always liked UAF over Omniverse. And Kai is fine in the Original Series. I can excuse her "tame" comment as childish. (But then she never apologised as a 16 year old.) Even that's not the problem. I get what the writers were going for with Kai. She is a hardworking, passionate archaeologist with a Lara Croft vibe, follows her grandpa like Ben does, also became worthy of her own powers with the Excalibur like Ben.
The ship is the problem. Their interaction stresses me out. Sense of humour varies among people, but I struggled to find that much "funny" in those interactions. Romance is forced as we know. Sure the character is not perfect, but it bothers me that there are way better girls for Ben that other viewers would prefer. He isn't that bad of a boyfriend either. They showed that she changed and developed feelings for Ben too. That's natural. But some other problematic aspects of her character might not change drastically. The female characters, especially Ben's love interests are not satisfactorily written. Ben is not perfect either but he deserves a better dynamic. The lack of character development is not the problem for me. And many will disagree. Kai's personality could work with how Ben is. But I'd like it better if she were left where Ben's lesson in Original Series was, or let Kai remain an independent character and we'd see her adventures with or without Ben's help.
Rant over.
