Saturn's stunning rings are one of the intriguing mysteries of this giant world.
Herman Melville spent more than 600 pages on the hunt for a great white whale - but each year in Australia the search occurs with a motivation utterly opposite to what we Ahab's quest for revenge. Migaloo, Australia's modern Moby Dick, has achieved beloved status, and his sighting last week has been welcomed, particularly by the tourism industry. Ever wondered what the center of the galaxy smells like? Depending on your preference, the answer could be raspberries or rum. As improbable as this sounds, the discovery was made when astronomers from the Max Plank Institute used the IRAM radio telescope in Spain to study Sagittarius B2, a dust cloud near the center of the galaxy. The announcement was made at the time in Astrophysics and has since been confirmed with studies of similar dust clouds.
Back in 1777, German physicist Professor Georg Lichtenberg made a curious discovery; when dust in the air settled on electrically charged plates, beautiful tree-like “dust figures” formed. Lichtenberg believed that these figures showed the motion of the electric field. The figures, which were later named Lichtenberg figures, sparked a great amount of interest in scientists and philosophers because they believed they demonstrated the true nature of the electric field.

Cd0xdsspi "The unpronounceable title comes from a text message the artist sent accidentally through her tight trouser pocket on a Friday night. The formation of letters generated by the pressures of movement, pressed between a moving, dancing body and close-fit denim. This keyboard mash is a burst of pop expressionism, in its own way a kind of action painting romantically alluding to the painterly histories of intuition, speed and chance; a real sexy intimate moment born in a sweaty pocket.:"
