"You do realize when people say that, it usually is." Brienne told Jaime. "That is like saying its not you, its me when you don't really mean it." She watched him. "So...what is it then?" She asked.

"You do realize when people say that, it usually is." Brienne told Jaime. "That is like saying its not you, its me when you don't really mean it." She watched him. "So...what is it then?" She asked.
Brienne kept a hold of him. It wasn't like she usually needed some kind of help. Most of the time she just pushed through, no matter what. But she was in a bit of a state at the moment. How she had even ended up like this, she had no idea. "Why are you helping me?" Brienne asked.
@monarchyofdesires
Brienne was taking in her surroundings. She was thinking about things that had gone on and hadn't realised that anyone had joined her. That was until she heard someone talk to her. Not just anyone. Sansa. Brienne looked towards her. "Of course. Why wouldn't I be?"
@empathetixs
"i'm not like those delicate southern boys you've met, lass." tormund muses with a grin, just happy she's giving him some time of the day — granted, he is not exactly the best one to keep a conversation with, he much rather fight, drink and tell his tall tales than anything else, but he makes an effort. "we freefolk live by our swords and by our words, we mean what we say. keep the furs, it's not getting any warmer here."
"alright, suit yourself..." he chuckled openly at the look on her face as she denied the offered goat milk; perhaps he should've known. she may dress and act as a fighter, and he has heard tales of her great doings, her prowess with a sword, not doubting them one bit — but at the end of the day she was still a southerner and a noble. "more sour goat milk for me then, big woman."
he knows her name is brienne, of course he does, tormund had practically tackled the boy king jon to the ground, urging for the crow to tell him who she was when he had first seen her — mesmerised —but since they were never formally introduced, he thought best not to call her by it. she probably doesn't know his, he figured. he's not sure how to act around her, nothing he did impressed her so he was left with little to work with here.
Brienne couldn't help but laugh. "Delicate?" She said. "I wouldn't exactly call some of them delicate." She told him. There was plenty she knew who weren't. Although she wasn't sure how they would be with the weather up here.
She watched as he had the goat milk to himself. "It is just something I don't like." She told him. "You do know I have a name. Please use it." Brienne said. "There is only so much being called that I can take from someone." She pointed out.
Brienne was sure that he had been told her name before. She just couldn't remember if she had actually heard him calling her y her actual name before. "I do call you by your name."
he scoffed, amused by her — she had a certain bite southerns didn’t have, and he appreciated it — and nodding, crossing his arms over his chest. without his best furs he would be cold, but he was used to it, being born and raised in the other side of the wall…
“aye! you went to the southern’s north — the stark north…but that’s not the real north, lass.” he retorted, grinning at her “i told jon this, and i tell you — that part of the north is summer to us. it’s only gonna get colder here…”
her thanks caught him off guard, he wasnt expecting it truly — he may not share the customs and not understand right how these power dynamics for noble houses worked, but tormund was no fool; he knew he had come off too strong for the big woman. perhaps he should listen to that small pecker boy king after all, jon could help him understand the best way to make his interest know to her without spooking her.
not that brienne looked like the type to be spooked, she probably could take him down in a fight easily — which was all the more reason he was amazed by her. she wasnt a weak little thing like the women from the south. she was a capable fighter and loyal to those she is with, traits he too shared.
“think??” he scoffed, trying not to look too dopey as he fished his canteen of sour goat milk and took a large sip of it, grimacing at the taste for a moment before he felt the warmth washing over him — his face nearly competing with the ruddy of his hair and beard. “i’m not one of those damn kneelers, woman — its just the furs, nothing else. no hidden agenda.” He offered the canteen to her, nonchalantly; it would help her be warm. “here—have some, tis far better than that southern piss you kneelers drink…”
He did have a point. This wasn't the north that she was used to. Of course he did know this place better than she did. She should have thought about what she was wearing before coming here. To be honest, she had no idea why she hadn't.
Either way, he wasn't sure if him offering his furs was also his way of wanting something else. Brienne looked at him. "That isn't always the case when someone offers something. I just had to make sure you knew that." She said. Looking at the canteen, she shook her head. "No thank you."
stubborn || cont. from here w/ @ser-brienneoftarth: Brienne stood there with her hands on her hips. "How exactly are you trying to help?" She asked. Hearing his next comment, she could only imagine what idea was going through his head. "Oh. What would that idea be? Because I am sure no one but me would have the best idea what I need."
the wilding ginger fella with the beard smirked, chuckling at her defensiveness - stopping on his tracks and raising his hands up in mock surrender, holding her gaze. she was a bit taller, but he was boarder and in a way he did find it interesting to find a woman like here here on the south of the wall; she would be highly chased after if she had been born in the other side of the wall.
as it is, however, he doesn't say so - she's defensive enough already, so he decides not to mention it. instea, he motions at her fancy armour. he likes it, makes her look dangerous and important, but in the north it was not the best wear.
"its the armour, y'know, that's freezing you up like two blocks of ice in your chest." tormund replies, a grin on his face - clearly happy she replied to him with actual words and not just a scowl; far better than his first try... "we free folk don't walk around here with these not cos we can't smith, but cos it's impossible in this cold - even the crows are smart enough to wear leather."
"chill, woman! it's not a trap!" he retorted as he stepped closer once again and seeing how she reacted. "since you're taking first watch, here--take my furs." tormund removed his heavy furs and placed them on brienne's shoulders unceremoniously, as if he had done so many times before and it wasnt the first time they shared more than a few words. "tis a cold night here in the wall."
Brienne looks at the armour that she was wearing. That wasn't what she was expecting him to mention, and to be fair, he probably had decided against saying what he wanted to say. She looked back at Tormund. "You do realize I have spent time in the North before, don't you?" She said.
She wasn't going to admit that because she had spent more time in the south recently that she was feeling more cold than she had before. When he stepped closer, she couldn't help but glare at him as if to say don't try anything. When he placed the furs on her, she sighed. "Thank you. But don't think anything of it."
“I’m only trying to help and right now I think I have a much better idea of what you need than you do.” (from tormund)
Brienne stood there with her hands on her hips. "How exactly are you trying to help?" She asked. Hearing his next comment, she could only imagine what idea was going through his head. "Oh. What would that idea be? Because I am sure no one but me would have the best idea what I need."
Small starter for @ser-brienneoftarth
Jaime stood still, glancing to Brienne as a sigh left his lips. “You know I can’t just leave my family… cersei is all I have ever known and although I’ve never really been a father to my children, it doesn’t mean I don’t love them. Myrcella has always been important to me” he breathed out and kept his eyes on brienne.
“Youre too good for this world. You’re here to do good whilst I’m the opposite. I’ve never been a good person” he admitted, jaime picking up a goblet of wine as he sipped on it. “I’ve done some terrible things, things that I don’t regret even though I should” he mumbled.
Brienne knew he would say that. Of course, he would say that he couldn't leave his family. She could understand the children side of it and in a way, even the Cersei side of it. But it was like Cersei had some kind of hold on him. Brienne nodded and looked back at her drink.
Hearing what he said to her about her being to good for this world, she glanced back over at him. "You can do good too. You just haven't realized it yet. I can see it in you." Brienne picked up her drink and sipped it before placing it down. "You will...soon enough. You just haven't been given the chance to."
silvcrignis:
“… If ye thought any of that
LESSENED my suspicions I have TERRIBLE news for you, lass,” she snorted, finally stopping & pointing to a spot & her jovial, playful tone immediately switched to one of GENUINE gratitude & sweetness.
“Thank you very much, ser I appreciate the help! This bit is all I really needed. If you’re up for it I can repay you for your TROUBLE with an ale at the tavern nearby when we’re done.”
Almost as soon as she finished her LAST sentence, her eyes glanced up at a soft RUSTLE of the tree leaves above them before a VERY tall long g o l d e n haired “man” (though he had a CURIOUS red streak through the front bang covering his right eye) DROPPED from it & held out a shovel to the sellsword.
“… Punctual & DRAMATIC as ever, Red,” she snorted, getting a half smirk & quirked eyebrow in return.
“I appreciate you keeping her out of trouble for that BRIEF stint, Ser Brienne,” Red drawled, his visible cat-like green eye glimmering at her before he crouched down on the ground & began digging. With his bare hands. Surprisingly just as effectively as Keira was with the shovel if not MORE so.
“Yeah… No… The North would disagree with RED far more than myself. I could never put ‘im through something that awful…”
“Aw. How KIND of you…” Red cooed back. His voice was ODD. Somewhat like a MELODIC hiss merely masquerading as a HUMAN voice.
Brienne looked at her and just shrugged. To be honest, she had got used to how people viewed her. Be it good or bad, she was used to any comments or anything that was made. At the mention of the ale, she nodded but she wasn’t sure if Keira had even noticed it as she, as well as Brienne heard the rustling. She noticed someone drop from the trees. To be honest, whe she said someone with that colour hair, she had to look twice.
She was brought out of those thoughts when she realized he was talking to her. He even had the green eyes as well. “I don’t mind.” Brienne said. “I was passing by.” She told him as she watched him do this. Brienne looked between the two of them as they spoke. “That is understandable. It isn’t for everyone.”
silvcrignis:
A SNICKER escaped the Valyrian at Brienne’s response… If anything she sort of reminded her of… Red of all people. They had a very similar level-headed demeanour in the face of herself saying the most UTTERLY ridiculous things & she couldn’t help but EXTEND her joke.
“… I dun believe you. In fact I am almost CERTAIN that there’s a whole CLUB of you straight laced golden haireds & ye all swap yourselves about at certain points so I suspect nothing but I’m catching on to the LOT of you! Only question is whether Mum or Da started sending you!” she “accused” through her laughter.
Keira & her suitors had a more… TACTILE history. A lot of teenaged boys had ended up on the GROUND of her family’s garden, DIRT or mud SMEARING into their fancy clothes with an ACHING tailbone & oft nursing a BROKEN bone in the face or chest… Her father had ACTUALLY gotten her a knight, not for HER safety but for the longevity of her unfortunate SUITORS.
“Pffft well. Been to the Landing back when Aerys was king… Haven’t been back there SINCE… Obvious reasons-” she paused, pointing to her platinum blonde hair & violet eyes.
“-never been up North, though… Dun really PLAN to either… Not really one for the COLD… Thank the GODS I’m from the Westerlands… Have no business up North to freeze my ARSE off… Essos though? LOVELY & more importantly REALLY warm…”
Brienne listened to what she was telling her and she raised an eyebrow. “I will let you think that. But I have only really spent more than a brief amount of time with one, as you call us, golden haireds. So your theory about a club of us is wrong. Or if there is, I am not part of that.” She told her. She looked around at the surroundings before.
Hearing Keira, she looked back at her as she explained the last time she had been there and why she hadn’t been there since. “I can understand that.” She told her. “Can’t say I have liked certain people there since then.” When she said about the cold up north, she couldn’t help but smile a little as she remembered what Jaime had said. “You get used to it. I did.”
silvcrignis:
Keira Black stood at 5′1 & weighed 83 goddamn pounds. If her personality wasn’t like this, her profession would have KILLED her ages ago. It was better to be disliked by some than maggot eaten in the ground, though she DID look relieved once the bag was FINALLY lifted & she tilted her head in the desired direction before starting to walk in it, clearly intending for the “item” to be taken off road into the thick trees & bushes alongside it though she gave a light SNORT at her inquiry.
“Yes, you golden haireds. It seems like I ALWAYS get paired off with at least ONE of you no matter where I bloody go in life… Startin’ to think it’s on PURPOSE.”
Keira hadn’t REALLY wanted children all too much. The Seven Kingdoms had always seemed a FOUL & unkind place… Then again she hadn’t really wanted to be MARRIED at all hence all the suitors she had punched in the face back when she’d had to put UP with those sorts of things… She suspected the younger woman next to her had likely endured SIMILAR but she wasn’t planning to CONFIRM that… She didn’t really ENJOY talking about her past.
“… Oh trust me… I know… Horses dun usually like Red… So he & I have gotten quite ACCUSTOMED to trotting all about this blasted country…”
Brienne looked towards where Keira wanted to go and nodded. She started to head in that direction. She knew what was in here. Or could guess what was in there? But she wasn’t going to question about it. She looked back at her. Brienne listened to her. “Oh...I don’t think it is on purpose. I am sure there is just as many people who don’t share our hair colour. You are probably just unlucky that it just happens to be like that.” She said.
Brienne thought about how things had been for her. What anyone who her father had wanted her to marry didn’t want to marry her. That seemed to be the same for anyone she met until it came to Jaime. Yes, he had said all sorts to her when they had first met. But that had all changed now. “I can understand. I have done my fair share of going up and down here. Especially between Winterfell and Kings Landing.”
silvcrignis:
“… RIGHT. Then can we PLEASE get this over with? By the Stranger you golden haired lot really love making things DIFFICULT for everyone else,” she sighed, sound more EXASPERATED than actually annoyed with the much taller woman, her tone still coloured with a wry playfulness.
“I GET it, our hypothetical an’ IMPOSSIBLE children would have BEAUTIFUL eyes but standin bout here with me all day when we BOTH have places to be & I still ‘ave business to attend dun really HELP either of us much. Don’t you have IMPORTANT knight duties or somethin’ of the like to get off to?”
Maybe she SHOULD just wait for Red to come back, even if it would just waste time.
“Okay, okay.“ Brienne said. She rolled her eyes. She knew how some could be quite bossy. She knew her fair share of people who could be like this. She raised an eyebrow as she heard what she said. “You golden haired lot?“ Brienne asked when she picked up the bag that she had wanted help moving.
As she heard her talk about hypothetical children, her mind went to Jaime. There had been a couple of time when they had been together that the thought had crossed her mind. She glanced back over at her. “Well, I have to get there first but anyone knows that making these journeys can vary in time.”
silvcrignis:
A pale eyebrow quirked upwards. Honestly most people saw her slightly nicked leather armour & multiple weapons & GOT it. Sure she was SMALLER & perhaps a bit more clean than MOST other sellswords but not figuring what could possibly be in the bag? Maybe knights DID have more honour than brains (most of them anyway) but her peppy demenour remained, she wasn’t going to MOCK a person she needed help from.
A mirthful, slightly playful chuckle left the Valyrian woman’s lips & she shook her head.
“You PROBABLY don’t, Ser,” she answered honestly.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t figure out what was in the bag. She could guess what was in there. That was why she had said what she had said. So she didn’t say anything when she noticed the raised eyebrow. She was clever even if some people didn’t think she was. Just like if they didn’t know her, they might think she was just your usual woman, not a knight. And they would find out the hard way.
“I probably don’t. But I can guess what is in there. I can’t really question it when I have killed my fair share of people.“ Brienne told her. “Plus...“ she looked at her. “I do know at least one sellsword.“
silvcrignis:
Oh by the FUCKING Stranger… It was just her LUCK the person she came across was a bloody KNIGHT! Eh… Help was help, she could be CIVIL for this. As FANTASTIC of a sellsword as she was, she wasn’t that STRONG & usually RED helped her with disposal but her partner was currently looking for their client with the EVIDENCE of their finished job with them.
The shorter woman cheerfully quirked TWO eyebrows up at Brienne before inclining her head towards the HEAVY looking sack next to her.
“THIS right here,” she told her, grinning slightly.
Brienne wasn't expecting to be stopping to help anyone while riding through here. To be honest, she had been thinking of what she would say to Jaime if she saw him again. She had been surprised when she found out he had survived what had happened at Kings Landing. Yet here she was. She wasn't someone that would just leave someone struggling either. Unless they deserved it. And there had been plenty of them. She wondered why this person was out here by herself anyway.
She noticed her look at her cheerfully the way she had before looking towards where she nodded her head. She noticed the sack. Brienne raised an eyebrow. "Do I want to know what its in there?" She asked. She had seen all sorts in her time.
@ser-brienneoftarth
He’d never known aches like the ones that plague his body now. They’d been walking for hours and, after having spent the best part of the past year seated in the same position covered in his own shit, his body is certainly complaining now. And, to add insult to injury, he is being forced to make the journey to King’s Landing on foot, accompanied by the most hideous thing he has ever had the misfortune to encounter.
“It is a wonder no one has mistaken you for one of the giants they speak of from beyond the wall,” he taunts her as he trails behind her. “Unless someone has…in which case I hope you’ll forgive me for my lack of originality…”
Brienne could think of other things she could be doing now. Anything was better than having to take Jaime Lannister all the way back to King's Landing. It would be fine if he wasn't so arrogant. And she was sure that he knew that. She didn't look back at him but she knew he was still there with him saying all sorts.
"If you are trying to get to me and think you are hurting my feelings, don't waste your breath. You are not." Brienne told him. She had dealt with all sorts said about her over the years. It didn't bother her anymore. And she could always fight back...using her sword. "You do have the lack of originality, just for the wrong reasons."
@xchxsingcxrsx is new in town
“Hey there… You BUSY or do you have a moment to help a fragile lil LADY like me drag a big heavy sack somewhere out of sight?”
Brienne had been riding through the area, minding her own business, although she was keeping an eye out for anyone who could be ready to attack. She was ready for that. She always was. Hearing someone talking to her, as there was no one else around, she looked over. "What do you need to move?" She asked as she stopped and got down off her horse.
amaidasfairassummer:
Joanna nodded. “That’s sensible, worrying about it won’t do any good.” The birth was going to come and it’s outcome would be what it would be, whether they worried or no. All they could do was hope both mother and child would come through okay. “And the maesters here are very good.”
Her grandmother had had good maesters too though. It didn’t always make a difference. “I feel sad for all the poor women out there who don’t have a maester or anyone to help them when they are having a child.”
“It wouldn’t.“ Brienne said. “So as much as there is worry, I am not letting it bother me too much because it would only be bad for me.“ She told her. Brienne nodded. “They are very good.“ She added.
Hearing what she was saying about the poor women out there, she nodded. “I know. But sometimes it works out well for them and not for the people who have maesters”
