ONCE AGAIN I CARRY THIS TEAM .
There are a lot of downsides to having been created specifically to be the ultimate soldier. Things, such as being grown in a tube, not having a childhood because you were grown in a tube, and so forth. Verglas was brought into the world, then had every single war tactic and formation shoved down his throat. Outside of that, he was never given an education. He didn’t get the chance to learn to read or write. He was never taught math.
So, when a police officer suddenly shoved a file into Verglas’ hands with an order to “Read that”, he froze. Sure, there had been plenty of times that police reports were pushed into his hands, but he was always able to work around it. He would ask the officer to explain things in their own words, or he would find a secluded area to use an app on his phone that would read writing out to him. This time, however, was different. The officer had walked away, and Nebula was staring at him, expectantly.
Verglas peered down at the paper, squinting. It just looked like chicken scratch to him. The fins on either side of his head drooped as a realization hit. Verglas slowly looked to Nebula, who was still staring at him, waiting for a debrief. Verglas gripped the clipboard hard enough that ice began forming beneath his fingers.
“Nebula,” he said, quietly. The clipboard was offered to the other, though Verglas was staring very intently at the ground. “What does this say?”
officer is paid no mind, his gaze drifting elsewhere with disinterest. today's work has been so boring he could fall asleep standing, why would a superhero waste time reading reports when they could be diving into action ? it’s a good thing verglas is such a well-spoken and upstanding guy, nebula would have trashed that report without reading a single word. anticipating what he’s sure is about to be a long and dreary debrief, he looks to verglas, who should give the rundown any second now. . . any minute now. or not ?
brow quirks at verglas’ gesture, who is clearly expecting nebula to take the clipboard.
❝ what am i, your friggin’ secretary ? fine, whatever, just stop acting like a kicked puppy. ❞
report is snatched somewhat irritably from verglas’ grasp, and only then does nebula take notice of the frosty surface where it had been held. he’s gotten to know his partner’s tells pretty well by now ; there’s a good chance that the contents of the report are either upsetting, or perhaps verglas is having difficulty with english again. either way, he provides a generously half-assed summary,
❝ it’s an incident report. couple a’ car crashes were caused by some crazy bastard in a mech suit, probably got tired of picking his ass and putting gundams together. this is the last street he was seen on, ❞
and index finger points to the page.
