He nodded slowly, able to agree with the statement as things had taken a turn for the worse, flashes of the night all coming to his mind. “Of course I did—well, more so begged, because you deserved a day with me, outside of our usual routine.” He smiled back gesturing to the picnic basket he had brought in. “Trust me, I’m not going to be dying anytime soon.” With a sheepish grin, he locked arms with his boyfriend, grinning over at him. “I though a picnic would be nice, personal heater and some of your favorites, all for you of course. I’m afraid I’ll only be watching, but…then I thought we could finally enjoy some alone time together.”

“Begged? I think I would pay to witness that.” He joked, this partial day off much needed after everything the two of them have gone through. His eyes went to the basket, a smile breaking out over his face. “You’re not allowed to die. I forbid it from happening.” Seth’s own brush of death realized how little time he had with Tommy, and how much of it he shouldn’t be wasting. It also have him another idea, unsure of the right time to bring up becoming a vampire too. He linked his arm with the other. “Any time with you is perfect, even if you’re only watching me eat.” Seth kissed Tommy’s cheek. “Alone time is much needed. Even if we do spend quite a bit of time together already.”

“Well, I would hope not.” He mocked only slightly as he let a hand pat on top of Seth’s, his grin coming out as he looked over at him. “That was a very fun night, apart from the…more terrible things that happened.” He didn’t want to linger on that, so instead, he slid his hand under the other’s hand then to hold it and pull him up. “That’s why I got you out of here for the day, away from all these people.” He said through a whisper while tossing back a wink. “Maybe we can finally finish what we set out to do that night.”

“We don’t need to talk about the more terrible things,” Seth shuddered slightly, no reminders needed of almost dying and leaving Tommy here by himself. The expression on his face changed as the other pulled him up, confused about what he might mean. “Got me out of here? You already asked if I could leave early?” He’d thrown much of his time into work, leaving early felt like a godsend for a rut he’d put himself in. “As long as if it involves you and no dying, I’d be happy to do anything with you.” Seth paused, “what do you have planned?”

With the record shop practically running itself, Tommy had found time to plan an afternoon for the record books, one that he knew Seth deserved more than any other person in that building. After terrible things had plagued the town, he knew Seth was working nonstop it seemed, and he only wanted to help remedy that, bringing along the picnic basket to set up a beautiful outdoor spot for the two of them that could be spent in solitude. But first, surprising him at work was always his favorite thing to do, after getting an okay for him to have the afternoon off, he snuck in, a generous smirk pulling at his face as he slid over to his desk. “What great memories we have around this desk.” He muttered back.

Seth barely knew what day it was until he wrote it down earlier in the morning, a gut wrenching feeling taking over him as he tried to figure out ways to make it up to the other. This surprise only reminding him he still didn’t have anything. A light chuckle escaped him, looking over his desk as his hand glided over the wood. “Makes work a lot more interesting to say the least. Those aren’t exactly memories I can get out of my head.” Nor any moment they spent together since Tommy arrived in town. He couldn’t imagine being with anyone else now. “There’s a lot more people than there were before though. Not sure we could get away with it now.”

Tommy’s tears came all too quickly, seeing his friend-turned-lover in the current state leaving him with only one option if there was any chance of survival. “Fuck.” Even at his weak words, Tommy found himself crying over Seth lightly while adding. “No…No, I’m not losing you tonight. We have the whole future thing thing to do together!” He tried back, even at his name being called back, Tommy found himself resistant to feeding him his blood because of what that could mean for Seth if things went south. But, in a moment, he tore into his wrist, muttering out a curse before lifting Seth into his lap to feed him. “You can’t leave me yet. Not yet Seth. Please.”

The ringing in his ears grew, his surroundings becoming mute as his eyes closed. His mind wanted to slip into sleep, unable to stop himself even as the wrist reached his mouth. The liquid ran down his throat, the effects slowly taking effect as he ingested more. His eyes didn’t open yet, but the numb parts of his body were felt again with the ringing subsiding. Seth’s hand reached up to grab Tommy’s arm, eyes opening to meet his. He took the hand away from his mouth, “Can...we go...home now?” Seth said slowly, reaching up to cup his cheek.

After his few days of recovery spent with Tommy, he felt the need to go back to work. Seth needed some sort of routine to feel back in control of his life after the disaster the centennial ended up being. Today of all days though, he wanted to be home again. The hours dredging on as he tried to focus on work. His phone came out from time to time, texting Tommy how awfully slow work was going, putting it away quickly as the door opened. “Hello, how can I--aren’t you a pleasant surprise.”

He was at his side in a flash, easily kneeling at his side, before taking his hand into his own hand. “Seth?” His eyes searched his face frantically, before assessing his body for injuries. “I…Oh fuck.” He glanced around, seeing that there was no sign of any help as people were tending to who they could, and it didn’t take long for Tommy to realize what he needed to do. “You’re hurt. Really badly.” He let out his jagged breaths as he uttered, “I can feed you my blood Seth…I don’t want anything to happen to you. We’re supposed to go home after this—stay with me, please.”

The room faded in and out, what he assumed to be Tommy’s hand keeping conscious enough to make out the familiar figured next to him. His voice sounded muffled as he spoke, only half paying attention to what the other was saying. He faintly smiled as he muttered weakly, “I sh-shouldn’t...have followed...the rules.” If they would have left when he suggested it earlier in the night, Seth wouldn’t be in this current position now. His grip loosened gradually, feeling himself slipping back into an unconscious state. “T-tommy...”

“Then I promise to be on my best behavior.” It wasn’t hard, Tommy figured he would do anything at that point to ensure a continued success of an evening. He stayed mostly to the side, watching the speech, eyeing Seth every now and then, to make sure everything was going alright, and that was when the faint scent of the explosion hit him before the actual impact in which he lost his focus on Seth as he was sent backwards. Sitting up with a start and rising with a panic, Tommy saw the huddled bodies everywhere it seemed, people trying to help one another, and his eyes could barely see around the stage. With vampiric speed, Tommy bolted to the front, looking through the cloud of dust that had gathered for the moment, and searched for him. “Seth!” He called out, desperation in his voice before he saw the figure on the ground. “No! Seth!”

His attempts to move failed, hardly able to control his breathing, or to get the room to stop spinning each time lifted his head. Instead, his brain needed to do calculations in terms of where Tommy might be now. Seth remembered seeing him off to the side, hopefully far enough away from the podium to not be injured. He knew the other could heal easily, but nothing could bring back Tommy if he were hit with something major. The faint sound of his name made him more alert, eyes darting to find the familiar figure. “Tommy,” he mumbled, unable to get rid of the ringing as he slowly lift his hand to reach for the other.

“Well, you know what they say, great minds think alike.” Tommy offered the sage old wisdom with a cheeky smirk growing straight across his lips as he fixed his own shirt before slipping into his own jacket as well, the duo becoming a quite a pair as of lately. He couldn’t help but slap the other’s ass in a last minute attempt to be cheesy while kissing him back. “I like the sound of having you all to myself again.” He whispered coolly before pulling away out of spite, heading back towards the main hall so they wouldn’t miss the big important speech or whatever it was. At that point Tommy was only there for one guy and one guy only.

He started to chuckle in the kiss, the slap on his ass taking him by surprise. The speech was important to catch, partly because he wanted to witness it but mostly from the need to be there. After it was over though, someone else could take over and he could leave with the man in front of him. “If you’re good, maybe I can show you some more appreciation for it.” His head shook, watching the other walk away before catching up with him. As the speech began, Seth stood off to the side of the stage, an awed expression on his face as he looked out at the crowd during the Mayor’s speech. He smiled one moment, the next being thrust away from the stage as the bomb detonated. His vision became blurry, fighting the urge to pass out as he attempted to get up to find Tommy.

“Well appreciate away.” Tommy suggested with a slight grin as he backed him into the desk with ease. The kissing turned into much more and it wasn’t too long after that that it seemed like time was really flying by. “You’re better than I ever could have asked for.” He uttered, before glancing to his own watch and pulling a face. “Can’t we stay just another five minutes?”

Seth finished tucking in his shirt, making himself presentable again after the moment he shared with Tommy. He never imagined some internet flirtationship would turn into this, thanking his lucky stars the other decided to move to this town of all places. “Funny, I was just thinking the same thing.” He pulled on his jacket, stepping closer to the other to give him another kiss. “Sadly, this goody-too shoes here needs to get back. After the speech we can go, though. Then we have the rest of the night to ourselves.”

There really wasn’t a need to rush such things, especially when Tommy had a serious case of wanting to eye the other in his suit. He pulled it off quite nicely, and couldn’t keep his eyes off of him. Chuckling lightly, Tommy kept a slim smirk on his face, dragging him away from the scene. “You don’t think I’m reward enough?”

Seth would have rather spent the rest of the party, except some part of him nagged at wanting to rush back to the party in fear of missing something. The other nailed it on the head when he called him a rule follower, but the farther they got away the more he wanted to break the rules. “I never said that. You’re more than enough of a reward, more than I deserve. And now I get to show my appreciation and gratitude.” He smiled at the other, reaching his desk and pulling him in for another kiss.

“You must really have some specialized stuff if it was made especially for me.” Tommy continued to tease him back, keeping close to him as his own gaze finally fell upon the other’s lips, wanting nothing more than to tug him away for the rest of the night. For now, he would have to do with dragging him slightly in a direction away from the crowd while letting a breathless air fill him. “Schmoozing it up I suppose? No, guess I’ll just have to make you my guest of honor then, huh?”

Seth smiled as he followed along trying to keep up with the other. He wished he didn’t need to be around, wanting to end the night then and there if it meant taking Tommy out of here and spending the rest of the night with him. Instead, he’d have to settle for a brief rendezvous at his desk. “Oh, really? And what’s my reward for receiving such an honor.”

“Oh, I suppose it probably has all these special features that you just have to show me, huh?” Tommy jilted with his lips curving up as he looked to the other, watching as his glance seemed to be focused on his lips. Licking them slightly in a more enticing manner, Tommy added, “Do you have a front row spot for that? You should have been the guest of honor, truly, for making all of this happen.” His hand slipped around Seth’s waist, letting it linger as he easily headed for the exit of the main room.

Seth’s head nodded, “It definitely does. Things I can only show you in person, made especially for you.” His breath hitched as he watched the other licked his lips, ready to skip this whole party at this point. “Shit,” he mumbled under his breath, matching Tommy’s steps as they went to leave the party. “One day I will be, but for now I will take what I can get. Because if I was the guest of honor, would we be able to sneak out like this then? Definitely not, I’d have to be entertaining.”

“Oh, hell no. I don’t think that’s quite possible.” Not that Tommy could ever regret much, but falling for Seth, that was a laugh. Staying close to him, he looked over him, before finding his cheek and letting his hand caress him tenderly. “I wouldn’t mind another office tour. One day you’ll be running this place, no doubt.”

“Good,” he whispered, losing his train of thought again as he stared at the other’s lips. Seth could have gotten lost in another kiss, the party already a thing of the past until Tommy’s hand grazed his cheek. “Might as well know the ins and outs of it beforehand. Plus, I don’t think I showed you all my desk has to offer the first time.” He smirked, a slight serious tone following soon after. “As long as if we’re back before the speech. I have to at least be here for that.”

“You’re such a rule-follower, aren’t you?” Tommy merely muttered, leaving breathless from the kiss after Seth had stopped. Of course, Tommy wanted more, but wouldn’t push anything onto the other young man. “Of course I chose the stickler, because karma has it out for me.”

“Are you regretting falling for me now?” Seth mostly joked, although a slight panic filled him at the thought of being rejected. Especially by Tommy, someone he’s only wanted to approval from since they started talking. “I did say I couldn’t leave, but that doesn’t mean we have to stay in this particular room.”

At his soft words, Tommy was all too eager to press his lips against the others’, before finding himself letting his hands continually grab at his lapels, letting their bodies collide slightly in the moment, as the main hall buzzed around them. “I’ve been waiting a long time for that.” He mustered against his lips.

Seth leaned into him, hands on either side of the other’s face as he kissed him. Almost unable able to stop and hating himself as he pulled away slightly, keeping only a small space between them. “If I didn’t have to stay, I’d say we could get out of here.”

“Technicalities that’ll end with me catching you in no time. If you want to have fun, then by all means, have it your way.” Tommy vaguely suggested with his hands continuing their caress of the other’s chest. “Oh Seth. You’re already winning this thing. You don’t have to do a single damn thing and I’m still gonna be chasing you.”

The problem with running from him was that he was already caught. Seth couldn’t run even if he tried, his breath hitching as the other continued to touch him. The time spent in the company of Tommy had gone well, getting to know him since he came to town. But Seth would be denying if he didn’t want something more, making it apparent as his hand reached up to bring the other to him. “Chasing is overrated.”
