Full truth be told, Seven wouldn’t admit any of her ( real ) fears to anyone; it’s just not something she’d be willing to do. She’ll happily share an abundance of false and ‘regular’ fears — people she’s worked with have believed she’s scared of clowns ever since she started out at the Magistrate — but she’s never spoken of her fear of silence; one she’ll do absolutely anything to prevent. During her time at the Institute she heard awful things, but silence is a sound she associated with unknowing, with death, and the dead were always ready for talks she didn’t want to have.

Seven had an all-too rare day off, and she was deciding to spend that day off laying on the ground — more comfortable than it seemed — perceiving the world through a cut crystal; the simple delights of the world, when you have only known it for a time far too short. The human tragedy, though, is that it’s too short for everyone. “You should really try this,” she said, “it’s almost like those... mirror mazes, a little bit.”

With the Solstice’s second day inching toward its closure with every passing minute, there was indeed a part of Seven that had tired of the frivolities; one could only smile so much without her face beginning to ache ( without the facade threatening to slip with each second of unceasing maintenance ) and being able to let her mouth drop into ‘neutrality’ — read: resting bitch face — was a wholly attractive notion indeed.  

It wasn’t that she didn’t enjoy it; she had laughed with children genuinely, helped them win prizes, but she only had so much energy for such things before all that she wanted was to curl up in bed and bid everyone goodnight. And she could have, were the former member of House Oleander and current official in the Magistrate less conscientious.  But the Houses had chosen to see the Solstice through — stubborn as they were — and thus she would have to as well before she got her rest. 

So she wandered the stalls that were beginning to wind down, searching for something that could give her sufficient energy to smile for however long it was necessary.
