regressor eddie & caregiver volt headcanons !!

💡 - eddie only regresses around volt. it's an open secret that he does it, but eddie is very particular about who can actually see him in such a state and volt is the only one he feels safe enough around (the human can be included in this too during their route). it's to the point where everyone knows they can't even bring it up to him because he will deny, deny, deny until his dying breath, only to turn around and melt behind closed doors. he is so kind to the other regressors in the house and makes sure they know they are loved and allowed to do whatever they need, but he does not internalize that for himself at all.

⚡️ - volt often has to "make" eddie regress. it's not some dramatic thing, really. eddie is simply too stubborn to let himself have a moment to himself, and volt knows him inside and out, so he's very aware of every single positive trigger his little one has. he knows how to soften his voice just right, and how to subtly offer sweet affection after a hard day, and and how to casually bring up eddie's poor, abandoned paci that must be missing him so terribly much. it's a long, long endeavor that starts from morning and usually doesn't end until after the bar closes, but volt is always victorious. eddie is too tired, too stressed, and volt is too charming to not give in.

💡 - when eddie does regress, though, he ends up dropping hard into his headspace. he puts it off so much that his body takes that time back by planting him straight into an infantile headspace, non-verbal and very clingy. he follows volt around like a baby duck. he stumbles, he coos, he whines for what he needs. it's incredibly demeaning to remember when he's older but, in the moment, it's the only thing that feels right. it gets him cuddles, and a warm bottle, and bubble baths that help with his chronic aches and pains.

⚡️ - eddie doesn't really like doing things when he's small, though. he isn't one to play with toys, even when he's feeling a little older, and most activities take a lot more energy than he has to offer. volt used to try and get him to color or run around or do anything, but they both learned that the best form of rest for eddie is dozing in volt's arms while a trashy tv show (that only volt likes) plays in the background. volt likes to take advantage of it and narrate what's happening while eddie's doe eyes stare at him, only slight comprehending anything. when eddie is out of his headspace, he remembers everything so he ends up knowing more about volt's bad taste in media than he ever wanted.

💡 - they don't have a lot in terms of regression gear. volt has a lot of stuff for himself (both as a caregiver and as a regressor), but eddie gets overwhelmed having to choose things for himself, especially in such a vulnerable context. he takes one glance at all the bright patterns and turns around without a word. he doesn't object too much to volt impulse buying him things, though. volt knows him well enough to pick things he'll like, and that's proven right by the few things eddie does own. he has a paci, a sippy cup and matching bottle, and a diaper bag that's filled with supplies eddie refuses to look at. it doesn't really matter, though, because more often than not, eddie also just ends up using stuff that belongs to volt and vise versa.

⚡️ - volt is a bit of a helicopter caregiver. as much as eddie doesn't like regressing around others, volt dislikes it more. he knows, logically, that it would be better to expand the support system more and add a few babysitters to their emergency contact list just in case something happens, but he finds it hard to make himself expand those horizons. he's very anxious when separated from his baby, to the point where other items in the house like to call him a new/first time mom, and he doesn't trust anyone to be able to take care of eddie properly. he also knows how much it means to eddie to keep things down low, and it reassures them both to be around each other when either of them is feeling off, so volt puts a lot of effort into making sure they're both okay. safe and together. even if it means they’re separated from the rest of the house.

Sometimes when headcanoning a character agere, I'm a little torn bc I don't want to miss-charaterize or woobify them too much. especially if the fandom already infantalizes them a lot, or if they're (canon or coded) disabled.

Like there's a very real problem in certain fandoms where a character gets babied to a pretty extreme degree, that can(and usually does) come off as ableist and/or misogynistic, wether because the character is a woman or a more feminine person. Especially I see it happen to a lot of gay guy characters and autistic characters.

Thankfully I find in the fandom agere spaces most people have a good balance, where it's clear they aren't just babying them but also understand other parts of their character.

I mostly just worry about if my own content comes off as infantalizing them too much for the wrong reasons, but I'm probably just worrying too much. Most of my headcanons are based on a mix of projection and looking at how a character's trauma might affect them, as well as their mannerisms in the source material.

(This isn't an attack on anyone I'm just spewing my own worries, I love a lot of agere art and fics regardless of if it's implied in canon or you just like the character and want to project onto them)
