Hello
Hope everyone is doing well. Sorry my activity sputtered and then died.

it would be necessary to maintain their strategy of STEALTH , as all of their other options were increasingly limited — solely two against an entire army inevitably spelled defeat , && she’s fairly confident that neither of them will ever see the light of day again if they were detained once more. which is why she’s purposely lowering the tone of her voice in response to his question , subtly paranoid that they might be OVERHEARD. in the circumstances that they’re both currently in however , such a concern isn’t irrational. ❛ i think so , if i just take it slow. hopefully none of them will come over here. ❜ at least that’s the optimistic perspective that she’s driving into herself , to lessen the chance of becoming distracted — another obstacle to overcome in their daring escape. there’s a deep intake of breath before she exhales slowly , her next sentence being a SUBTLE plea rather than a command. ❪ i can’t go back in there , people are relying on me. ❫ ❛ watch my back , alright ? i’ll go as quickly as i can. ❜
Yu Jin gives a curt nod. “Keep your wits about you,” he entreats her, though the words bear the force that could never quite leave his tone. He knew the limits of his abilities, and this was a task best left in Claire’s hands. If she were spotted, he was in no position to realistically provide much backup, unarmed as he was. But such things were better left unsaid, even he understood that. If things did indeed take a turn for the worse, he would aid her by any means possible. For now, he would simply have to maintain position out of sight and watch.

“Gracious as ever, General Yu Jin. My Lord sympathizes with your circumstances and hopes to improve your stay. That, and more.”
At the time, he had shared these words in habitual kindness, though the current reality differed. Amidst beating drums and high spirits, Sun Quan danced along in his drunken stupor. Though a docked vessel served as the venue, the sight mirrored their previous encounter: distanced from the crowd and gaze focused toward the distance.
“Our flutists and harpists are set to perform soon, allowing peace from this boisterous crowd,” Xun approached, sensing this scene was more of a nuisance than mere noise.
Blessedly forgotten at the edge of the boat by all but Lu Xun, Yu Jin watches the celebrations from a distance. The boat had been attached to the dock as Wu had experience in doing and the celebrations went on undisturbed by the atypical venue. It is when the promised musicians appear that a sense of wrongness hits him - or something akin to it when the women are strangers and not Lady Zhen and Cai Yan. The music mingling with the black waters at the edge of the boat bringing thoughts of that night before Chibi, and Master Cao Cao’s voice--
Here before us, wine and song! For man does not live long. Like daybreak dew, his days are swiftly gone. sanguine-souled we have to be Though painful memory haunts us yet--
Yu Jin cannot quite place the feeling in his chest but it is unwanted. Not now. He lowers his head, aware he had been staring. Trying to control his expression and despising himself as cracks begin to show. He was far from Wei, Master Cao Cao was gone, and with him likely branded a traitor he would not be able to return. He had accepted that. So was his destiny and yet he carried on like this--
Hi I’m still alive Sorry for the long absence, I’ve been prioritising getting my life in order and it’s been doing me good. I miss Yu Jin and all my tumblr friends though so I’m going to try and slowly get back into rp, starting with a few old plotted threads I’ve long promised replies to.

a way out — but not without the prospect of potentially falling to their DEATHS , or rather sustaining serious injury without procuring a grappling hook first. she’d much rather endure that than being captured by the enemy once more. the urge to head towards the ladder is almost overwhelming , but she’s aware that it will only cause COMPLICATIONS further on down the line moving so prematurely , && so she opts to remain in the current location instead. ❛ at least we’re not somewhere completely unfamiliar , right ? ❜ perhaps in his case , as the only place that she’s entirely accustomed to is the wu main encampment — most likely miles from their current PRISON. a few footsteps forward before she dares to steal a brief glance around the corner , noting the array of tents && other battle supplies. if they were lucky , there might even be a weapon lying around — except their fortune is a lot to be desired , especially after being taken prisoner by the serpent king’s forces. ❛ you think there’s one among those crates over there ? ❜
Yu Jin is silent for a moment, scanning the yard for any potential. In the interest of reusing the crates and deterring would-be thieves, the supplies in frontier bases were often unlabelled, instead organised and distributed under a system overseen by the supply captains. In this jumble he had no idea where a grappling hook would be, or even if there was one to be found, but failure was not an option and he had to filter such uncertainty from his words.
“It is standard equipment.” Drawing back, his eye catches a number of opened crates by the wall, but he cannot see their contents. It would be a place to start, if not a clue why there were so few demons here.
“Will you be able to get to those crates?”

onnakabuki:
Respected and feared, hm? Not unlike infamous warlords of her past - the mere mention of their names sent ripples of hushed voices among the villagers. They maintained their reputations through her lifetime, leaving her to ponder if this man would bear a similar fate.
“I am but a woman who has lived her past life. Bestowed with the task of guiding the lost toward the light, or wherever their spirit seeks rest, I now appear before you.”
“Yet, how strange of a meeting this is. Your physical form remains, but some part of you beckons my presence.”
There is a moment where he does not reply, but the frown that scarred his features remains. Had he not seen the petals, or felt the strange atmosphere of the place, or known where fate had lead him - what he had to do next - perhaps he would have been more critical.
“Is that so.” He is wary. Always. And her possible meaning does not escape him. He is not as concerned with ghosts as some - but somehow he knows he stands before one. Of all those who could haunt him - a stranger?
“What do you mean?”
cerisetheai:
there’s already the taste of FREEDOM for them both , a sliver of sunlight kissing her skin with warmth as she remains close behind him. of course , there was always the possibility of a guard appearing from nowhere , rendering their escape attempt for naught as they’d almost inevitably be dragged off once again , but she’s trying not to occupy her mind with such NEGATIVE thoughts — dwelling on them would almost certainly cause trouble later on down the line. ❛ alright , let’s just hope that it stays that way. ❜ she may or may not be subconsciously holding her breath , steps entirely cautious in anticipation of a sneak attack from the enemy — ❪ don’t be stupid claire , you’re both going to be fine. just think , this place is going to be far behind you soon enough. hopefully. ❫ ❛ any idea where these battlements are ? ❜
She didn’t know where the battlements were. He remembers once more they were from different worlds and gives a hasty explanation.
“They are the top of the walls.” His words come out as a warning growl - there was no telling where the enemy was. They would have to remain on high alert and quiet unless absolutely necessary or absolutely certain. Creeping to the corner of the building, he listens. Not daring to breathe but looking first to what he can see of the courtyard, then to the battlements, then back. There were a handful of them idling in the courtyard among the tents and hastily-stacked crates that had been moved to accommodate their prisoners. And there, on the far end of the adjacent wall, a patched-in hole in the masonry made by Wu themselves and next to it, a ladder.
“I know where we are, but I have not been here in years.” They were in a fortified supply depot just south of Hefei. They could escape west to Wan, north to Hefei or Shouchun, or south to Wu territory via boat if the port weren’t taken. He quickly notes their orientation, but that decision would be made for them when they had gotten over the wall. “We will need to search for a grappling hook among those crates.”

Yu Jin should go to a hot spring, Yoshitsugu thought more. Though nothing about the spring’s skin benefits had been replied to, Yoshitsugu let it go. He didn’t want to push the other man into a more light hearted conversation if he had no interest in having one.
“Hm.” He considered, the noise soft. “I don’t know if it would do damage to what was originally there, but it might be less than if there were access to one. Then again, it could be an accumulation that depends on individuality— so, the character of your soldiers would come into play.”
A momentary flicker to his eyes, “You’d know your soldiers better than anyone else, so.”
Yoshitsugu’s attempt to steer the conversation into more lighthearted topics had, of course, gone almost completely over Yu Jin’s head. However, he did realise he was being characteristically sour. He nods, but is silent for a moment, arms crossed and deep in thought. “It is our call to make as we see fit - your men are clearly fond of you.”
“If we are to be fighting together, perhaps some time for our troops to... ‘get used to each other’ in casual circumstances would be well spent,” he concedes, mouth twisting once more into a grimace. Perhaps it was Yoshitsugu’s friendliness thus far making him soft, but he supposes there would be ways to manage it without jeopardising order, and his men would appreciate the downtime...
“If the opportunity arises after a battle.” He doubted it would.

With concern, he looked at Yu Jin’s expression and didn’t take too long to sense that something wasn’t alright. So he decided not to interrupt the warrior any further and allow him to speak his mind. Once the male was finished explaining himself, Sun Quan could only feel a pang of guilt hitting him right there and then. This was something he didn’t wish to happen, but it finally seemed to have occured regardless of how discreet he was.
“This is my fault,” he said looking away for a moment before his gaze returned back to the other. “I was careless, forgive me. I didn’t want you to become involved in this. However, it’s not the end yet. I can fix it.”
Yu Jin thought himself to blame for becoming at all emotionally involved. He thought he had been on guard against such things, but he was a starved, weak man, unable to refuse scraps of affection where they were offered for long. And that is how he had gotten in this mess - and why the reply causes a sting - an uncomfortable tightness in Yu Jin’s chest. Conflicted guilt. He knew how to fix this - he knew several permanent, effective ways, but he knew Sun Quan would agree to none of them. The man was too emotional - too him. And, it seemed, as deep in this as Yu Jin was.
“No. The fault lies with me. I have acted unprofessionally - and inappropriately. Whatever action you need to take, you have my support,” he says, taking a step toward the man. “But I urge you to consider cutting ties with me.”
"You aren't having a fun time, handsome. Listen up, you are too handsome to frown."
The frown does not budge. “Whether I am having fun or not… should not be any of your concern. I will be leaving in a moment. Go and enjoy the evening.”
