This is Xochi Solis. A Texas based and I would like to think Mexico inspired artist creates giant drops of mixed media. In my mind she is dripping her vision unto canvas and the result, as we see, is a perfect example of getting lost in art. I have spent several minutes more of what I would comfortably say, trying to decipher each layer, color combination and why does it work for me. And it sure does.
What can I say, embroidery and life makes perfect art.
Diane Meyer pixelates photographies that evoque nostalgia and color matching, making you fill in the blurry bits from within. I wish I had thought of this. Next time folks.

Have you noticed the flat trend that is going around lately in the graphic design world? I have to say I am really into it and these acrylic paintings by Brenda Cablayan remind me a bit of the translated version of a flat image, not because they don't have depth, but because of the crispness of the blocks of color she uses. Plus, the subject is a great view of everyday Hawaii. All in all, I like.
Houxo Que makes color pop with watercolor, acrylic and fluorescent pigment on canvas or concrete. His main theme are flowers in a series called Day and Night of luminous installations using black light.
This contemporary pieces are the work of Clare Elsaesser. Fresh and modern with lots of color. The best part is that you can actually buy her original work and prints in Etsy at about $US65/$MX870 for a 40 by 60 cm image.
These paintings are ridiculously good with their pastel palette, modern vibe and old style allusions. The reinvention of the past iconography contrasts perfectly with the heavy brush strokes, and to top it off, just the right pinch of humor woven along.

Imagine you are walking on an alley in Korea and notice in the trash heaps of ceramic broken pieces, leftovers of a ceramic master of the old style (who disposes up to 70% of his work that are not up to his standards) and then you take them home and lovingly assemble them into new and flowing shapes with aluminum bars, epoxy and cover the seams with 24 k gold leaf (!?), then you surely are Yeesookyung and I am in awe of you, and of the sheer size of the finished pieces.
Her work is called Translated Vase.
Something about these paintings make me happy, and plus, PEONIES! Apart from having a friend crazy about this flower, these big format oil paintings are breathtaking. All the details and the little nuisances and just everything. To be fair, the artist Thomas Darnell, does a lot more than just peonies. There is a photo there with him in it, so you can really appreciate the size.
Rugs made of wood, yes, we have seen them before but NEVER like this. Elisa Strozyk makes this subtle and texturized origamis of wood that can serve even as blankets. How can they look so cozy, I mean, it's wood! Crazy and yet I want to cuddle with one.
