A visit to Redwood National and State Parks is truly magical. Located in northern California, the park is home to the tallest trees in the world – the redwoods. 🌲🌲 Scotty Perkins captured this photo about a month ago as morning light streamed through the lifting fog, creating a mystical feel. This is the entrance to Barker Ranch - or what’s left of it, at least. Built in the late 30s and early 40s by Butch & Helen Thomason as a ‘recreational ranch’ rather than a profit-making business, it was sold to the Barker family in 1955, although it’s most (in)famous due to it’s association with a rather different ‘family’ - in 1969, the Barker Ranch was the site of Charles Manson’s arrest for vandalism. It was only after this arrest that the police realized just who they had actually captured. / on Instagram http://ift.tt/1MTHX5V

Sometime it’s all about being at the right place at the right time. Case in point: This amazing photo of what appears to be Yosemite National Park’s Half Dome on fire. While photographing sunrise at the park, Austin Jenanyan noticed a cloud forming around Half Dome. It eventually morphed into the shape of a flame and was illuminated by the early morning light. It only lasted a few short moments, but Austin describes it as a surreal and magical experience. Photo courtesy of Austin Jenanyan. 🔥
It’s Friday for Grover, too.
I appreciate effort. No matter how small, silly or irrelevant, I appreciate effort.

The inhumane conditions that 28-year-old artist Atena Farghadani has been subjected to over the past nine months in Iran are horrifying to consider. Arrested in August 2014 by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, she was imprisoned for four months in Tehran Province’s Gharchak Prison, where she was allegedly beaten and interrogated for up to nine hours a day. After a brief release in December, she was rearrested and sent to Evin Prison in January for posting a video online about her torture. In late February, she went on hunger strike and suffered a heart attack; she’s been shuttered away in a solitary confinement cell ever since.
