I’ve seen a lot of posts on Tumblr about protests around the world and everyone usually supports them. Pls take some time to read this too and spread this as much as you can too. It’s a long post, but 3 million and probably a lot more lives are involved in this since this virus spreads so fast. 

India records 70k cases daily which is one of the highest rates worldwide. Our parliament is closed, public transports are closed, lockdowns are still there in many states. But the govt has decided to conduct two exams -- JEE and NEET which are for engineering and medical degrees respectively. A total of 3 million students give these exams every year. They have been postponed 2-3 times already but our plea to postpone them again was rejected in supreme court, who gave us a total of 4 MINUTES to present our case

I’ll list some of the things that have happened since then:

20-30 kids have committed suicide out of mental stress, and others have been talked out of it. I have myself seen a tweet of a girl with her wrists slashed talking about how depressed she is feeling. 

Students are active on twitter daily , from 9 am, well into 3 am in the night. Thats 18 hours of tweeting. We get 5 million tweets everyday. 

Our tweets are being mass reported by the government which leads twitter to delete them. 

Some private institutes, who train students for these exams, have been identified as being the lobbies for these exams to be conducted. WhatsApp chats with their senior members have surfaced saying they bribed govt officials with 25 crore rupees = 3.38 million dollars.

Students have gone on hunger strikes. Peaceful protestors have been beaten by the police with sticks

Check out this video which nearly brought tears to my eyes. Hear their screams as the police beats them brutally. And note how they were all just sitting down in protest. 

Some more things

Many politicians, journalists, celebrities and activists from around the world have come out in our support, including Greta Thunberg. 

Our education minister is spreading lies that students want exams, when every poll conducted on twitter or buy news websites has shown overwhelming majority (always 90%+) in favor of postponement.

These are the conditions in other government exams in 2020:

As you can see there is no social distancing.

COMEDK exam had 57 deaths, 5k+ corona cases and 8k+ quarantined

Floods are going on in many states

People have water inside their homes. Upto just below their knees. Centres of examinations have been alloted 200-300 kms away. How can they reach centres without any public transport? 

Our country has a lot of poor students. How will they manage to travel so far? Or stay in different cities while taking care about this shitty virus? 

Protests are being ignored. 

Tweets are being deleted. 

Students are committing suicide

After being discharged from the hospital and getting the help I need, I hate being in this position again even with current donations given. Due to my health insurance not paying much for my medical bills and my mother still being unemployed, the donations given were used to pay for the medical bill. As a result, we’re at a bad financial spot again. A situation I got my mother and myself in.

Mother and I recently got a breach letter from our mortgage company. We have to pay the rest of what we owe being $2500 or we are forced to vacate the house.

I don’t know what to do at this point. I can’t lose the house. My mother already has failing health. She’s already taking pills for blood pressure, iron, thyroid, cholesterol, arthritis, and depression. Losing the house would be too much for her and likely kill her…I don’t want that to happen…she’s my only parent left after losing dad. I can’t afford to pick up a second job due to my hours. She’s not old enough to get her widow’s benefits from social security. She has to be 60, she’s 59 and she won’t be 60 until April 10th which is too long to wait and we already lose the house then.

I just don’t know anymore…I’m barely able to pay bills and pay for her prescriptions.

Im at a loss so im doing what i never thought I’d have to do. Im asking for help. Really begging. Idk if this will work if anyone can help but here we go. I used to have my own house, car, and worked 2 jobs. Ive always supported myself. Then I met a man who seemed to be great, after awhile we ended up getting pregnant. A child we both wanted. He makes plenty of money so he told me not to work just to take care of the baby. We moved to a bigger nice house, i quit both jobs, and spent whatever was in my bank account on baby stuff because he paid the bills. When i was About 6 months pregnant i found out he was on drugs. He hid it very well. He also works out of town so that helped hide stuff. Many times hes cried apologizing saying he’ll stop but he never does and its gotten worse and worse to the point of ever day he yells, breaks things, degrades me, even says he hates our son. I have no money, no back up plan, and no where to go but i have got to get my child and i out of this situation. Thankfully i can breast feed and i have about $60 on a foodstamp card which i have now lost my foodstamps since he makes money and we live together. It takes forever to get them back so im asking for help. Help with diapers, money for food for me so i can continue to feed my baby and money to find somewhere to go. Or just prayers if u cant help. Just please pray for us. Im downloading cash app if anyone at all can help any little bit please. It would mean the world to me to get out of this situation before its too late. Thank you.

The laws they’re trying to pass infringes on many Indonesian citizens’ rights.

Article 417 punishes extramarital sex (even between two consenting adults) by up to one year in jail or 10 million rupiah in fines.

Article 419 states that couples who live together without being legally married could be sentenced to six months in prison or 10 million in fines.

Article 414 Outlaws the ‘blatant’ displaying, offering, broadcasting, or showing how to obtain contraception to minors. Up to 1 million in fines. The latest draft prohibits anyone except “authorized personnel” from disseminating information about contraception to children, which activists say will curtail attempts to provide sexual education.

Articles 415, 470, and 471 state that only doctors have the right to decide to perform an abortion. This conflicts with the 2009 Health Law, which says a woman can seek an abortion in “a medical emergency,” which could be interpreted to include health reasons or rape. A woman who aborted her pregnancy could be sentenced up to four years in prison. Anyone who helps a pregnant woman have an abortion could be sentenced up to five years in prison.

Article 218, 219 criminalizes ‘attacks on the image’ of the president or vice president being spoken or shared on any media, punishable up to 4.5 years in prison or up to 200 million rupiah in fines.

Article 240, 241 Bans the broadcasting, displaying, posting, or online distribution of writing or pictures that contain ‘insults agains the legitimate government’, punishable up to 4 years imprisonment or 500 million rupiah in fines.

Article 432 Bans homeless and disabled people from being on the streets or other public places for ‘disturbance of public order’, with up to 1 million rupiah in fines.

Article 432 also bans women from being out on the streets at night time for any reason, including work commute and night classes, with up to 1 million rupiah in fines.

This is getting out of hand.

Please help us spread awareness on this! A lot of my friends are out there on the streets, fighting the bills, getting tear gassed. I can’t be there with them, but I can at least do this.
