Okay, so there's this Australian band that calls themselves 5 Seconds of Summer, a rock band formed by Luke, Michael, Ashton and Calum, and while I never really had a problem with the band, I totally hate their sound and songs, and mostly, some of their fanbase that says: "OMG!!1!! 5SOS IZ DAH BEZZ POP PU-" Stop. Right. There. Miss. This is the entire reason I made this list, so grab some popcorn cuz this will take some reading. Reason #1 - Their looks Ok, so before anyone gets pissed, I compared 2014 Luke to his 2016 "version", and he actually looks like a grown ass man, and Michael really seems to be somewhat a punk person, but Ashton and Calum... Gosh. Stop wearing this extremely tight pants, and... I don't know... do anything except looking like somebody from a boy band, which is the entire reason why you're called like that. Reason #2 - Crappy lyrics So many of the punk bands I listened to has that really cool DIY style, anti-capitalist lyrics that talked about some really cool topics, and as far pop punk songs go, some are extremely humorous (early blink-182 before self titled), and some goes to songs about more serious themes, like loneliness, failed relationships, and some similar to the normal punk ideologies. Now listen: I rather hear Mark Hoppus singing Family Reunion, than hearing one whiny-ass "She looks so perfect standing there, in her New Apparel underwear..." RAARRRR Reason #3 - Sound While I still think SGFG was a massive improvement over their self titled effort, they once again, SCREWED UP IN THE ALBUM. WHY ARE YOU STILL WRITING STUPID LOVE SONGS? WHY NOT REPLACE "You're so perfect" WITH "I hate you", WHY YOU TITLED YOUR SONG "HEY EVERYBODY!"? REASON IS THAT YOU DESPERATELY WANT ATTENTION, RIGHT?! And, IMO, sadly, in the entire album, "Jet Black Heart" is the ONLY song I could truly get hooked on... (although She's Kinda Hot grew on me) I mean... Why not do things like that constantly? It sounds good... And NO I AIN'T DOING THAT PUN. (and feels good) Reason #4 - Waste of talent Remember Charlie Simpson? Yeah, one of the guys of the pop band Busted, right? Yes, I know he came back right by the end of last year, but pretend we're still on 2014. (at least by that case) Remember that Charlie was incredibly hating his life with Busted because he felt that the pop thing was hindering his talent? And, poof! Fightstar happened. A freaking awesome post-hardcore/rock band that actually shows what've been hidden inside Charlie all of that time, and it's truly one of the most wise things a former pop star should do. And that's ALSO exactly what 1 or 2 members from 5SOS ALSO should do. Yes, I know. "Donuts" and "Pizza" are pretty punky, but they are JOKE SONGS, and by that, they don't count. And they actually showed TALENT in these songs! Yes... Waste dollars on a bubblegum pop song with guitars, but when you mess around, you actually write cool and fast melodies... C'MON, HAVE A BIT OF "PISSED CHARLIE SIMPSON" INSIDE OF ONE OR TWO OF YOU, GUYS! And last but not least... #5 - Fanbase UUUGGGHHHHHHHH It's like these girls (and some guys too) never hears punk in their life. I really saw on a FineBros video that a girl compared "Good Girls" with a 2003 song... That's pretty ironic, considering that "Feeling This" by blink-182 (finally I'm mentioning these awesome guys again) came out in 2003 too! And to be honest, both videos for both songs are pretty similar... But, girl, listen, you don't know anything about 2003 music. By that same year, we were also introduced to "Ocean Avenue", "Take This To Your Grave", "Autopilot Off", "Finger Eleven", "Indestructible" and "The War On Errorism" by Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy, Autopilot Off, Finger Eleven, Rancid and NOFX respectively. I know you don't know half of these bands, and three of them actually aren't pop punk or punk at all (Finger Eleven is alternative rock), but I wanted to show you that these and blink's self titled are all amazing albums you all should check, so your comparing between 2003 music and 5SOS means nothing, so keep your mouth sh- Wait, she was 12. Oh, and if 5SOS are soo punk, compare them to Fugazi, Agent Orange, and Sex Pistols... now these are AWESOMELY punk albums. 5SOS are a bunch of poppy wannabes, that I think that will never change their song, unless one or two members that actually have notion in music leave the band, and go like Charlie Simpson: creating good music. Oh, and something: Busted's A Present For Everyone are more pop punk than 5SOS! Ok, that rant ends here, and I need to stop before I explode. Thanks for taking your time.
