I thought I was itching to leave but...
This week has been hard in a really sweet way. It's been so so hard for me to figure out what place Loma Linda has in my life. Is it a place which has been full of shallow people who are just focused on their own accolades and accomplishments, or a place filled with camaraderie and encouragement, although lacking the amount of social interaction that I had in college? The teachers and deans have been incredible. I've never been to a school before where, despite there being 150 people, they know all of our names, families, hobbies, and personalities. I also have never been to a place where they want so intensely for us all to succeed. Every time one of us did not, they worked with them one on one for hours to help them pass their boards, get the letters of recs they needed, or get more interviews/jobs. The administration here truly are the most selfless people I've ever seen, constantly sacrificing their time for their patients and their students. Also, the way they talked about healthcare was so inspiring. To them, it truly was a calling. They felt as deeply about their patients as they felt about their family, and it was evident in the care they gave as well as the way they constantly pushed us to study harder, practice more, and become better. The energy here really was one of growth and improvement, despite the energy at the outside rotations (white, kaiser, ew).
Blech. It's just so weird. The end of an era.
