Yauld Junge first appeared in a solo tale in Splatt Debuts #15. It was Splatt Comix first endeavour in the superhero genre, their heroes tended to be adolescent with milder abilities than the norm.
The Trident Boys
Originally formed by an uneasy alliance with The Waterboy by Yauld Junge and MoonBloom and later sometimes includes The Amp and Northern Light.
As a team they share the power of The Waterboyâs Trident which can sap or enhance the strength of others, though it is most effective in itâs ownerâs hands.
Stickleback
A favourite among fans â Stickleback is of German origin â a third fish, a third amphibian, the rest human. He and Yauld Junge have a long and on-going vendetta to destroy the other â to the extent it pushes Robert to the point of breakdown.
Azoth
The Boy of Mercury. Azoth has the ability to absorb, assimilate and dissolve whatever he touches. On older teen of unknown origin he becomes or our heroes toughest nemesis. Through him The Amp achieves a further maturity which heightens his own powers while his brother is almost defeated by him.
The Shrimp-King
The Shrimp-King is a lobster like creature with a human's mind, governing an underwater kingdom of various sea dwellers. Yauld Junge has a vendetta to destroy the creature, which eventually, as part of The Trident Boys, he does â then they eat the result in a macabre feast.
However his off-spring then takes over the kingdomâŠ
The Rook
The Rook is a late-middle-aged man of expert airborne agility. However when Robert and Daniel initially get involved with The Conjuror he seems to take their side, helping the boys to victory. He returns as their nemesis, but on meeting Moonbloom an odd passivity takes over, yet he never seems to loose his dominance. He is a powerful villain â but will often, oddly, swap sides for the underdog.
The Hyena
Hendrick De Villiers attends Fairbairne Boysâ Gimnasium in Worcester, South Africa. He becomes a thorn in Robert Maddoxâs side when Robert attends the school. They are joint top scorers for the Hockey Team and both champion swimmers at the school. Hendrick dabbles in the anthropomorphic sciences his father is involved with to the extent he becomes part Hyena. His savagery and cunning threatens to destroy Robert Maddox aka Yauld Junge.
Ocelot
Dario Delgado is from Peru. His is of mutant stock â his mother was believed to be descendant of the ChavĂn civilization, his father was a top dignitary, with whom he was in constant conflict with. When stressed and faced with danger he morphs into part ocelot. At first he pursued Yauld Junge as a potential threat but they joined forces to help destroy a secret military base which, it happens, his father was involved with.
When Yauld Junge takes him to South Africa to face his newest adversary, The Hyena, an incident nearly kills them both and all on board, they save the day, but Ocelot seems to remain in pure feline form thereafter. Yauld Junge takes him in as his pet...
The Conjuror
The Conjuror is Arno Zimon. He is of a rival school to The Maddox boys being a pupil at The Hadzor Haberdashersâ School for Boysâ. His father is Polish, his Mother from Belgium, born in Arlon, Belgium the family moved to Worcestershire when he was four. He is an only child.
He has an affinity with flying things, especially if theyâre black or grey, is a master of deceit and a master of chess, only ever beaten by Yauld Junge on occasion during inter-school competitions.
A fastidious dresser, everything has to be just right, clean and pressed. He usually dons a black top hat, a black cape, black or red waistcoat, red or black short trousers, or if his parents believe he has not been particularly naughty heâs allowed long trousers. He likes to have straps, buckles and handcuffs too, they might be useful in his eagerness to restrain other lads.
He hates mess and dirt and will sometimes he shave his legs, purely because he feels body hair is untidy. He can manipulate the minds of others making them believe they are someone else, though some, like his parents, are immune to this power. He has rabbits, but seems to get through a lot. During his early encounter with The Rook he tapped into Rookâs power of flight, he cannot fly like the Rook, but can hover. His personality is usually calm and restrained, but he does have moments of pure anger.
The Water-Boy
The Water-Boy is part human part amphibian of a secret ancient race with some fish ancestry. His amphibian name is Yannagastatrix or Yann for short, his human name is Niall de Troye.
He can stay submerged under water for about 2 hours. When submerged the scales in his skin, in particular on his chest, become more noticeable. Not as physically strong as The Maddox boys, until he becomes wet. He has the ability to manipulate water vapour and thus make rain, thereby making him stronger.
He carries a trident which has the ability to sap or enhance the strength of others. When part of the Trident Boys, they often share the use of his trident, though it is more effective in his hands.
He is often non-verbal, though does love to scream now and again, he can go into sulks, sometimes has complete melt-downs, but also loves larking about and being a boy. Since meeting Daniel Maddox, The Amp, they have become best of friends. He is a good friend to Robert Maddox, Yauld Junge, but from day one they have also clashed.
Northern Light
Northern Light is Ciaran Karlsson and he is a good friend of Daniel Maddox, The Amp, they are in the same year at Malvern Hall Boysâ Grammar. He has a Swedish father and a Scottish mother, was born in Aberdeen before the family moved to Dumfries. He was always a little jealous of his friendâs special power. He was unaware of any special powers until a holiday on a cruise ship with his family and The Maddoxâs led to him absorbing Danielâs electrical energy and releasing it as blinding light. Initially this power tipped him over the edge, however he is good at heart and is learning to use his power for good. Daniel has forgiven his friend for their fight and feels responsible for what he did, but sometimes the two still flare up against each other.
He enjoys rugby but isnât as good a player as Daniel. He can be a little immature, a trait which made him a match with Danielâs naughty nature, at the expense of others. Robert Maddox sometimes gets annoyed with Ciaran.
He cannot shock like The Amp, but he is able to manipulate electrical forces and the blinding light he emits can be honed like a laser. There are times, however, when his power takes him over.
MoonBloom
MoonBloomâs name is Yoshida Kazuaki, he is Japanese. There grows a crown of flowers about his head â this is the bloom of an alien being which fused with him as a baby, living symbiotically with Kazuaki and giving him special powers. Cyclically the flowers die and then grow again. Trauma or exhaustion can cause this to happen prematurely, when they die Kazuakiâs powers are weakened. His main power is the ability to bestow peace upon living things or harmony on earthly materials.
However he is also a master or martial arts, so when peace fails, he becomes a ruthless fighter.
Since his first meeting with Robert Maddox the two have become the best of friends. Sometimes Robertâs brother Daniel becomes jealous over their friendship. The Water-Boy feels more serene in his company, sometimes he prefers this feeling, sometimes he feels heâs being controlled. Kazuaki often finds Daniel a challenge. As a Trident Boy donât be fooled when seeing MoonBloom in the background during battle, this is when heâs applying his influence, even though it cannot be seen, he is working hard. As we know, this doesnât always succeed, so then he will lead the boys in physical battle and though not as muscular at Daniel he is twice as effective with his hands, with their special powers stripped, MoonBloom is undoubtedly the most powerful member.
The Amp
Daniel Maddox was born in Worcester, South Africa. Yauld Junge or Robert Maddox is his brother and 15 months his senior. Robert and Daniel have deep respect for each other, but also clash at times, then subsequently fight. Both boys can be stubborn, Daniel more so.
Their English home is in Worcester, their South African home is Worcester, more specifically Old Storridge Common and Stockenstrom Street (later moving to Fairway Heights) respectively.
From an early age he could manipulate the flow of electricity. As an adolescent he developed the ability to shoot electric currents from his body, at first haphazardly, gaining more control and power as he matured. He developed a gun to help concentrate this power. When not using the gun he grows more muscular and mature as his power builds within him, but when exhausted can seem much younger, shorter and thinner. His parents sought to dissuade him using his powers, discouraged his wish to become a superhero, but when his brother took the plunge there was no stopping him.
He is bright and can be academic, though not to the extent of his brother. If a subject interests him, heâll give it all heâs got but he is easily distracted and if a subject bores him, heâll switch off. Heâs a lover of practical jokes, and though often flippant, when his attention is caught he can become single-minded. Though volatile he his more likely to say what is on his mind to friends and turn his back on any conflict with them. Sometimes his motives are questionable and he is a bad loser. He loves all sports, in particular rugby.
His costume is a blue balaclava, of which he has about 25 different styles, his sports shorts, yellow by default or the âawayâ kit of blue shorts, plus yellow or blue sports socks. Sometimes he wears Lycra leggings (when his shorts are in the wash). He has electric bolts, some printed, others he attaches to his attire with Velcro, never settling on a single style.
Yauld Junge.
Yauld Junge â real name Robert Maddox. Born in Worcestershire, England. He goes to Malvern Hall Boysâ Grammar in the UK or Fairbairne Boysâ Gimnasium when in South Africa. His father, of English and Welsh descent, is a diplomat and often travels the world. His mother is South African with Dutch and German ancestry, she is a scientist. His brother is Daniel, AKA The Amp, 15 months his junior. Robert and Daniel have deep respect for each other, but can also clash and subsequently fight.
Their English home is in Worcester, their South African home is Worcester, more specifically Old Storridge Common and Stockenstrom Street (later moving to Fairway Heights) respectively.
His power is the ability to be incredibly agile, he could dodge a bullet, and though he canât fly, he can use air currents to his advantage so that he can glide, sometimes haphazardly, to safety. He can manipulate his breathing to be able to survive underwater for up to 20 minutes.
Though Robert is academic, he enjoys sports, field hockey is his favourite. He loves chess. He tends to be very level-headed and often single-minded, until pushed too far, when an irrational fury can overwhelm his common-sense. As he superhero this failing sometimes leads him into trouble and gives him a certain insecurity while questioning his identity. He hates loosing but if it happens you can guarantee heâll be quietly scheming his next move.
His costume is typically a yellow cape (sometimes green), green eye mask, dark grey school shorts, long green socks (sometimes red) and red boots or wellingtons (sometimes green). Supplied by his mother.
