Character Design & Lighting tests

The following is a clip from the movie UP. I love this particular scene as it shows a variety of camera shots and uses lighting to help set the tone a lot. Warm lighting accents the happier moments whereas dim lighting highlights the sad moments. What appealed to me the most about this scene was the lighting and music. The music guided viewers throughout the ups and downs of the scene. The lighting really helped viewers differentiate between the ups and downs. For my project, I want to use lighting to help me set the mood of the current scene. I also want to play around with different shots to help capture the scenes better. Finally if I can I want to be able to incorporate music in my animation.

4 Story Splines
* Once upon a time: there was a little robot who loved cooking
And everyday: he worked in the kitchen as an assistant
Until one day: he got overloaded and was fired by the boss
And because of that: he lost his job and was heartbroken
And because of that: he came back to his small apartment and cried
And because of that (continue as needed): he sees an old pic of his mom and him cooking
Until finally: he realizes he can’t give up and get backs up to look for jobs and finally gets one
And since that day: he always strives to best version of himself
And the moral of the story is: don’t give up even when everything feels like it’s set against you
* Once upon a time: there robot chef who seemed very arrogant
And everyday: he proved that he was always the best at everything
Until one day: a rookie was assigned to him for mentoring
And because of that: he began to react more irritated that he had to actually teach a kid what he spent years learning
And because of that: the kid was oblivious that his own mentor despised him
And because of that (continue as needed): he spent every chance he could leading and helping his mentor
Until finally: his mentor sees himself in the rookie
And since that day: he began being more open to teaching and learning himself
And the moral of the story is: never forget how you started out
* Once upon a time: there was a robot who aspired to be a chef
And everyday: he would cook various dishes trying to impress the chefs in his neighborhood to give him a chance
Until one day: One of the chefs decided to give him a chance at the restaurant
And because of that: He was slowly able to climb up and show his skills off
And because of that: He was promoted to chef
And because of that (continue as needed): he made programs to help rookies show off their skill
Until finally: He was able to help people how he was helped before
And since that day: He worked to pay it forward
And the moral of the story is: A random act of kindness can go a long way
* Once upon a time: there was robot that liked to cook
And everyday: he would try to make something new, but the people around him would always disapprove of his passion
Until one day: he decided to take it further and work for a fancy restaurant
And because of that: He worked hard to prove that he belonged there
And because of that: People started recognizing his passion for what it was
And because of that (continue as needed): He was able to enhance his skills
Until finally: He grew to become a chef
And since that day: He strived to encourage young dreamers
And the moral of the story is: Some dreams are worth fighting for

Inspirations
I have been getting my inpirations and ideas from a previous animation that I had made about a boss and a rookie employee.
*I wanted to attach the animation on my computer but I have no idea how to*
(this is how the boss looked like)
(this is how the employee looked like)
I’m really drawn to storytelling and trying have have some moral to my story
Some ideas would be:
- Perservering even when things may seem like a lost cause - One random act of kindness can really have a big impact on someone’s life - Sometimes you need to look back to look forward
I haven't made any solid decisions about what I wanted to do for my project. However, here are some of the ideas floating in mind:
- Make a 3D animation about a robot in his own world
(Looked at several images and websites of how robots were made on Maya)
Ukrainian CG artist Alexandr Novitskiy takes us through the Maya, Mari, Marmoset, and Photoshop workflow for creating a humanoid battle-robo
- Was thinking of making something that would bring some awareness. (It's just a thought at the moment)
Was inspired by that video
This is what I have so far
