Before coming to Pandora and falling into his current state, Krieg was a bounty hunter, and a damn good one too. There was a point where Krieg was  regarded as one of, if not the best, in the cosmos-- they came highly recommended, and were well known for their brutal and effective tactics, but also for the care they took to never involve innocents in their various jobs. Sadly, Krieg’s line of work is what eventually landed him on Pandora, where he had been tasked by an old friend (Flesh-Stick) to hunt down a group of troublesome bandits, only for that friend to have been working with said bandits, who then ambushed him and his family as they slept soundly one night, selling them all to Hyperion only a few days later...

temp verses ideas until i write something substantial up for them:

BORDERLANDS 2: - krieg, he’s out for revenge against handy jackey and hipsterion, yo. - he somehow joins the crimson raiders... somehow. likely brought in by maya bc she knows he’s not all bad. - him and zer0 ( @gh0stiiing ) are great buddies that somehow work well together - also does side adventures with felicity ( @crowmaskcd ) from time to time. - he’s tiny tina’s dad and ill go off on this in a headcanon post at some point, but yeah. he’s too far gone for this to really matter, but the fact still remains.

FATE: - far fetched but humour me ok-- no rlly i can see u  all shaking ur heads and laughing but rlly just humour me for a sec. krieg eventually dies in his original timeline, but dies being well recognized and well known for being a bad ass vault hunter. is recorded into the throne of heroes bc it exists outside of time and timelines.he is accidentally summoned into chaldea through a severe singularity related error. - summoned in the berserker class, naturally - the inner voice see’s the danger these singularity issues and the enemies behind them pose, worries it could spill over into their original timeline and wants to stop that from happening so they do their best to reel krieg in, so that he’s more easily controlled by the chaldean master. - he screams in chaldea’s halls about nonsense sometimes in the wee hours of the night. try not to mind him please.

“You, you, YOU! IT’S YOU!” Krieg, watching Zer0 with his one whole eye (the only one he didn’t have covered up for some reason), approaches with haste. Riddled with maddness though he was, Krieg remembered his former travel companion well, and while it may have been hard for him to show it, he was pleased to see them once more.  “THE FLASHING FACES, THE DANCING BLADES THAT CUT THE MEAT INTO THE PRETTIEST LITTLE PIECES, THE SWEET HARMONY OF A SHOT FROM THE SHADOWS! YOUR FLESH STILL LIVES! GOOD.”

“Grrrr” Krieg stares off into the distance, twitching with anger, and perhaps, nostalgia, for someone he used to travel with, “WHERE IS HE? THE MOVING SILENCE THAT MAKES THE BRAINS GO SPLATY SPLAT SPLAT FROM FAR AWAY!? WE USED TO MAKE THE SWEET MEATS CRY SO GOOD TOGETHER!….” Krieg, stomping one foot on the ground, causing the stone beneath them to tremble, turns to Felicity, seeming slightly more subdued, slightly, “Grrr, lets go kill something, bird lady! I WANT TO FEEL THE CRIMSON IN MY PORES! I WANT TO TASTE IT IN MY EYES!! MAKE THE PUZZLING PAIN RUN AWAY FROM MY SKULL!”

small headcanon: k.rieg can be heard talking about a variety of different people (usually women) in some of his ravings, usually recounting what was done to them or what they did to him, and when he talks of these things, he is briefly remembering some of the people he knew while imprisoned within the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve. Some of these people were friends, some were staff, some were both, but they are fragments from his past that he manages to briefly cling to every so often amidst his madness,

'I ask of you one thing, terrifyingly large friend. Destroy all threshers. They are assholes who interrupt my most important work!'

“Threshers!?!” The madman tightens the grip on his buzz axe, his voice growing louder, and noticeably more angry at the mention of those pesky borrowing terrors.

“THRESHERS!?” Krieg, yelling and throwing both of his arms up into the air, his buzz axe flailing about haphazardly, continues, “THE SLIPPERY SLIMY DIGGING MEAT WILL BE GROUND UP INTO PRETTY CHUNKS FOR THE TAKING! I’M GONNA DANCE IN THEIR BLOOOOOOD!” There was a long list of things that Krieg hated with a passion (Hyperion, bandits, Varkids, Stalkers, that sarcastic clapping bastard from the Slabs, and on and on…) and luckily for Felicity, Threshers were high up on that list– not that Krieg wouldn’t have killed those troublesome worms for Felicity anyway, but he was going to kill be killing things even harder than usual now. Threshers deserved no less.

another small headcanon: it should come as no surprise that k.rieg, as a whole, wants revenge against hyperion for what they did to him, but how k.rieg’s inner and outer personalities deal with this desire for revenge is different. inner k.rieg (a.k.a the inner voice but im going to refer to them as inner k.rieg from now on) undoubtedly has the sanest vision for this revenge (find handsome jack, saw their face in, save more people from ending up like k.rieg himself has, etc), and from within the space they share with outer k.rieg in their mind, they are often nudging them on a path toward retribution, but outer k.rieg, even in their ever present psychosis, has revenge in their sights, with it being one of the only things (besides murdering people) that they can truly focus on, in a sense. 

outer k.rieg’s view on this revenge and how they go about getting it is anything but sane, and yet, the rage outer k.rieg feels toward hyperion and the way he expresses it is vengeance in it’s purest form. outer k.rieg doesn’t fully remember what was done to him, and even if he did, it’s unlikely that he would be able to comprehend any of it it, but he can remember the bare bones of that horrific ordeal-- the pain, the suffering, the terror, the loss, he remembers those feelings, he knows hyperion inflicted them upon him, and in that sense he knows he was greatly wronged by them, and he will stop at nothing until he puts that same vortex of anguish into the hearts of every hyperion lackey he crosses paths with. inner k.rieg truthfully doesn’t have a problem with that, either, so long as no innocents are harmed in the bloody, meaty blitz, though outer k.rieg and him have (somehow) thankfully come to a... agreement of sorts on that topic.

small headcanon to start things off: k.rieg’s murderous antics aren’t 100% blamable on him being plain out of his mind. don’t get me wrong, he is out of his mind, so very out of his god damned mind, the man is broken in every sense of the word, but there is something of a method to .k.rieg’s madness when it comes to his overzealous desire to... kill things-- it’s therapeutic to him. now that obviously sounds inane, but remember who we are talking about here. 

just looking at k.rieg, you can tell there’s a lot going on, a lot thats wrong with him, and on any given day, he’s going through a lot in his head, a lot of which he just doesn’t understand, or doesn’t have the capacity to understand (that is not taking about his ‘inner voice’, which is very sane and stable, though it’s something of a separate entity from k.rieg). there’s a lot of sadness, pain, confusion,and  frustration bubbling within k.rieg, and every-time he swings his saw into a rats skull or a bandits spleen, every time he splatters the skull of some unlucky fool who tried to rob him, he just feels a whole lot better-- it’s a thrilling experience that helps him occupy his mind on something other than the chaos within himself, for a time. when k.rieg gets hurt, the same thing applies, in fact, getting hurt thrills him and makes him feel even ‘better’, despite it being, quite literally, unhealthy for him in every way imaginable. everything about his, antics are arguably unhealthy, actually, but he does have a reason for being so murderous and violent, a very messed up, sad,and  twisted reason, but a reason.

if anything, at least k.riegs inner voice ensures that he only kills people who ‘deserve’ it, i.e, the scum of pandora, and that makes k.rieg’s actions somewhat okay in a ‘well at least he’s technically doing good’ kind of way.
