Zane and Antimony's scene together was one of my favourite to write, same it the boat chapters.
Was I singing this song to myself on repeat thru these chapters? Hell yeah.
This entire first chunk of the book was just a feast of my favourite tropes. Rag-tag team scrambling to formulate a plan behooven to constraints of TRAVEL for some forced DOWNTIME to reflect on our EMOTIONS.

GO hot take apparently
Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.
And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"
I feel sorry for people who didn't get anything out of that stunning finale.
The fact that one of the Good Omens finale biggest complains is the lack of a kiss because "it's not queer enough without it" it's so disappointing.
Good Omens has been a safe space for ace people for decades now, as we could see ourselves in a main couple that was explicitly like us. They were in love, but with another way of showing intimacy that resonated with asexual and aromantic people. Good Omens has also been a fandom with a lot of acephobia, belittling or ignoring the canonical sexuality of the characters in fanworks.
I am not surprise to find that one of the biggest complains about the finale is thus rooted in acephobia. Crowley and Aziraphale loved each other, and they showed it through the whole finale: how the protected the Bentley and the bookshop, how Crowley went back to Aziraphale once he was back, Aziraphale's question, how they supported each other through the whole library scene, a whole meet-cute that leaves to a wedding and a life together in a South Down cottage... Even if there wasn't a mouth to mouth kiss (because there was a kiss), we couldn't have had a more intimate and lovely ending for them.
The thing is that many people can't see it because unless a story shows traditional forsm of love (or a sex scene, as I've seen some fans ask for), it is not recognized as queer. And it makes me sad, because a show as queer as Good Omens, that shows other types of queer relationships, should have an audience that recognizes it as such. There are other type of intimacy, there are other types of relationships, and the fact that many people don't recognize it as such proves how queer it is.

OKAY SO. I've been very bad at reading and have been so bad at remembering things so I started a running notes for my reactions to the Epitome of Science books that I always intended to text you (I started this note about 3 years ago) so here is a VERY disjointed stream of consciousness of my reactions to parts of the Winding and The Ticking that have been living in the back of my phone 😅. I also only vaguely remember what some of these were in relation too cause I never noted where in the book it was. So. That's a mystery for us all. The Tolling reactions will be incoming soon now that I'm actually catching up 😆 Enjoy!
