Berat is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Albania.

• The city’s history goes back more than 2,400 years.

• It was originally founded by ancient Illyrians and later became part of the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire.

• During the Ottoman Empire period, many mosques, houses, and bridges were built.

• Berat is famous for its traditional white Ottoman houses, which is why it is called the “City of a Thousand Windows.”

• Today, its historic center is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 2008)
