Picked up the keys!

We picked up our keys on Monday when we drove back from a lovely Labor Day vacation up in Cape Cod.

My movers aren't scheduled until Lucky Friday the 13th, so I have plenty of time for packing boxes. In the meantime, we're having some cleaning done in the apartment. I did a little research and found that Stanley Steemer offers a deep cleaning for hard wood floors and bathroom tile/grout. 

When we stopped by to check on the apartment Monday, it looked clean, but now that we've done the deep cleaning I can't believe we would have considered living there without it!

Here are some examples of what the "deep cleaning" was able to do. It is a little icky*, so feel free to skip this portion of the show. 

After cleaning the bedroom floor, they emptied the dirty water into the toilet to be disposed of. This is what it looked like (please note, it started as only clean water and cleaning solution):

I never really considered myself a "clean freak," but maybe I am. I will definitely have Stanley Steemer in to clean all future apartments before I live in them. Job well done!

*Sorry this post was so gross. I really wanted to share my results, though because when I was researching "deep cleaning" options, their wasn't much out there, except from the companies that offer the services. I hope this helps someone out there on the interwebs! Servicey!

Combining our Tastes - Reality Edition

Remember way back a few weeks ago when I posted all my ideal furnishings. Well, last weekend we went shopping for real. We decided to get the essentials first. Essentials being a place to sit down and a place to eat. (I already have a bedroom set, so we're going to make due with that for now.)

For the dining room, we went a slightly different direction. John and I both loved the Rustic Dining Collection at West Elm. However, we were told the dining table was discontinued. Imagine our surprise when we found it on the website. I assumed it was a glitch in the system, but after talking to customer service, it was real - there were 198 left nationwide, but then that was it.

I'm so excited to have a metal-top dining table! I'm looking forward to the dings and scratches as it ages and gets some character.

We got two of the Rustic Dining Chairs (also pictured above) to go on one side and the Carrol Bench to go on the other side. We picked the slate Porter Upholstered Dining Chair for the ends.

And the pièce de résistance is for the living room. We were debating on couch color, but John convinced me we should go for blue. He hasn't had the strongest opinions in this process, so when he went into defense mode for his blue couch, I knew it must be right! We went with the Henry Sleeper in Ink Blue.

Its a pull-out so feel free to crash at our place anytime! :)

WE ARE APPROVED!!!

The co-op board called and officially approved us today. I didn't blog about the interview because I was terrified of jinxing us. I will share the deets and the process soon!

Birthday!

This week was my birthday. I asked the boyfriend to skip a gift this year, since we have the big move coming up (fingers and toes crossed!!!). 

But then, he went and did the most perfect thing ever: He bought me a gift card from WEST ELM!!!! While some may call this impersonal, I call it perfect!

He knows me so well. :)

I'm no interior designer, but there is just nothing more boring than a plain white wall! After some online hunting, I discovered removable wallpaper! I'm dying to try this out, especially in my bathroom. 

Apartment Therapy has a great round up of different companies that offer the temporary wallpaper solution.

Has anyone ever tried removable wallpaper? Does it come off okay when you move out?
