people aren’t calling PD selfish for not wanting to finish the Earth colony, they are calling her selfish for going around having fun playing with humans, the way she first treated Greg
until he made her take him seriously because before him she treated humans like pets
as in literal pets because she was the one who made the human zoo
you know that thing totally still existed up til the 21th century
also a bunch of gems that were following orders got corrupted because of the Diamond authority
tortured shattered gems into becoming matched up Frankenstein like monsters
including the millions that were part of the cluster
and the amount of “imperfect” gems having to hide in the dark because their very existence is considered a problem
and even if she didn’t know that all of this would happen, she still let it keep happening for thousands of years ok, she kept Bismuth in a bubble and never told her the truth
she forced Pearl to keep her secret from everyone else and then never loved back like Pearl loved her
caused real Rose Quartz to be trapped in bubbles for ages
and still left Steven, her and Greg’s son, to deal with the consequences of everything she ever did
I don’t even feel as sorry for the diamonds as other fans do and I still consider their current stage a dick move
and the crystal gems spend thousands of years believing a lie
the problem is not “Rose” not wanting to finish the Earth colony, but the fact that she never solved any of these issues by herself. It is still the Crystal Gems job to fix her consequences for her, including Steven who is a 14 year old human boy who, unlike PD, can die a lot more easily than her in these circumstances. I have no sympathy for her at this point because Earth has been nearly destroyed like 4 times in the show already and it is because of something she started
like we saw Lars just fucking die in front of our eyes
actually no, Steven saw Lars die in front of his very eyes and these characters are still teenagers for God’s sake.
it is a very bold move to make a beloved character the one at fault, I am not critiquing the story for that, but I am getting mad that even Rebecca Sugar herself said that Rose “is really an awful person” and people are defending the amount of pain and suffering she has caused everyone around her like it’s nothing special.
if this was any other character they would be the villain of the story, so why does Rose get a pass?
