At last, your girlfriend was finally allowed to take a vacation and spend the holidays with her family. Of course, you were included in that plan without question.
It felt like it took forever to happen, but you were just happy that you could finally be with her in person again. You had missed her a lot, and seeing her face to face made everything feel worth it.
Still, it wasn’t like she ever ignored you while she was gone. Even with tours, schedules, and being stuck in LA most of the time, she always made time to call you whenever she could. She never forgot to text either, even if it was just something small.
That was just how Daniela Avanzini was with the person she truly loved. Because of that, you never really understood when people said dating someone famous was hard, or that they were too busy for a relationship. Daniela never made you feel pushed aside or forgotten.
Even the distance never stopped the two of you from loving each other.
There was one thing you knew for sure, though: whenever she came back home to Atlanta, a beach trip was always part of the plan. You definitely didn’t mind, especially when it meant seeing your girlfriend in a bikini.
“Oh my god, Y/N. I missed this so, so much,” Daniela murmured, almost to herself, while she stared out at the beach. She was wearing a light cover-up cardigan over her bikini, along with your swim trunks that she had borrowed from you, because when she wanted something, she always got it.
The ocean moved in gentle waves, and there were people scattered across the beach. Some were sitting on beach mats, others walking barefoot across the sand.
“I can tell,” you replied with a soft smile, watching her from behind. You stood in place, weighed down by the heavy cooler in your left hand, a folded beach umbrella tucked under your right arm, and your girlfriend’s tiny vintage purse hanging awkwardly from your shoulder.
As you fixed the strap of the flower-patterned purse so it wouldn’t fall, she turned to look at you and frowned a little. She was clearly worried because you refused to let her carry anything at all.
Moments like this always made her feel like a princess around you, whether she admitted it or not.
“You know I can carry something,” she argued, like it was the most logical thing ever. “At least my purse. It’s literally mine.”
Being completely whipped, you shook your head right away. “Nope. Your only job is to look pretty and find us a good spot.”
She rolled her eyes, but it was full of affection, and her cheeks turned pink anyway. She leaned in and kissed your cheek, whispering, “You’re really making me fall harder for you.”
The kiss made you blush too, and you smiled proudly, feeling even more set on carrying everything for her. At the same time, she looked around, clearly trying to find a place so you wouldn’t have to keep holding all the stuff.
“Over there!” she said, pointing to an open spot on the sand. You looked where she pointed, and before you could react, she grabbed your hand and laced her fingers with yours, pulling you along.
“Come on. I wanna enjoy the beach already.”
Your face lit up when she took your hand, and you couldn’t help but admire her as she led you forward. Her natural curls moved with the soft breeze, and she looked relaxed and happy.
Once you reached the spot, you started setting everything up. You opened the beach umbrella, laid out the mat, and placed the cooler to the side where the drinks were. You carefully put her purse down on the mat too.
“So, are you gonna swim?” you asked, glancing at her.
Instead of answering right away, she started pulling off the swim trunks, wiggling a little to slide them down. That left her toned legs and bikini fully visible.
You froze, your breath catching as you stared without meaning to. It felt like she had completely distracted you on purpose.
She looked up and caught you staring like it was the first time you’d ever seen her in a bikini. A small, amused smirk spread across her face. You quickly turned away, clearing your throat, pretending you definitely hadn’t been looking just now.
Noticing how flustered you were, an idea slowly formed in her head. She ignored the way you had been staring and looked out toward the water instead, acting casual.
“Maybe later,” she answered calmly. “I just wanna relax in the sun for now.”
She reached into her purse and pulled out a bottle of coconut-scented oil. When she opened it, her smile grew more playful.
“And since you’ve been taking such good care of me, I think I should return the favor with a massage.”
She had to bite back a laugh when she saw your reaction. You looked completely shocked, cheeks burning red, the blush spreading all the way to your ears. Today, you felt extra aware of everything, especially your girlfriend and the bikini she was wearing.
“I mean- yeah, sure,” you said, clearing your throat and trying to act normal. You lifted your shirt a little, showing the bikini top underneath. You told yourself it was just hot out. That had to be the reason you felt like this.
Now it was Daniela's turn to stare. You could feel her eyes slowly taking you in, from your collarbone down to your stomach. You shifted a bit, suddenly very aware of yourself.
You listened right away, turning so your back faced her. She moved closer and lightly swung one leg over yours, sitting over your thighs. Her weight wasn’t heavy, but it grounded you. She poured a good amount of the oil into her hands and rubbed them together.
You buried your face into your arms, trying to steady your breathing. Her bare skin against yours made your thoughts drift places you were trying not to think about.
Her hands finally touched you, warm and slick with oil, starting at the base of your neck. Her thumbs pressed into the tight spots you’d been carrying since traveling and hauling all the beach stuff.
When you let out a quiet sigh, she smiled to herself, clearly pleased that she’d found a sore spot.
“Does that feel good?” she asked softly.
You hummed in response, eyes closed. “Yeah… it feels really good.”
She noticed your reaction as her hands moved slowly down your back with a steady pressure. When she reached your lower back, her touch turned light, fingertips brushing over the sensitive skin right above the waistband of your swim shorts. It was enough to make you shiver.
She stayed there for a moment, her nails lightly tracing before her hands slid back up your sides. She did it again, repeating the motion, each time letting her hands drift a little closer to your hips, a little nearer to the spots that made your breath hitch then pulling away just before it became too much.
Whatever she was doing completely ruined your attempt to relax, and it only made the heat building inside you worse.
“Hmm?” You could hear the teasing smile in her voice. She leaned down, her chest brushing against your back for a brief second as she spoke softly against your skin, her tone hopeful. “You like that?”
Inside, you tried to calm yourself down, though your breathing was already heavier while reminding yourself that you're supposed to enjoy the beach with your girlfriend instead of thirsting over her.
When you didn’t respond, she just gave your shoulders one last strong squeeze, her thumbs slowly following the line of your collarbone before she pulled her hands away. The sudden loss of her warmth made your skin tingle.
“There,” she said lightly, patting your shoulder like she was proud of herself. “All paid for.”
Your head felt completely messed up. You stood up so fast you nearly tripped over the edge of the beach towel. Your heart was beating way too hard, and you knew that if you stayed even a moment longer under her teasing, half-lidded stare, you would completely lose it.
“Uh- yeah. That was really good,” you said quickly, refusing to look at her as your eyes darted toward the ocean. “Um… should I go look for seashells for you? I could make you a necklace.”
Daniela blinked, clearly not expecting that at all. But the idea of a necklace made from shells you picked yourself slowly made her smile, her expression softening.
“Yeah. I would love that.”
You nodded a little too eagerly before turning around and heading toward the shore.
“Alright, gorgeous. Just wait for me!” you called out over your shoulder without looking back. Daniela giggled, amused by how obvious you were. It was clear how much she affected you, and she felt grateful all over again that she finally got to spend this vacation with you.
When you reached the waterline, you bent down every few steps to pick up shells that caught your eye. Wet sand pressed between your toes as you carefully checked every small shine of white, cream, and pale pink.
In your mind, you were already planning the necklace. One perfect shell in the center, with smaller, smooth ones on each side. You imagined how it would look around her neck, and the thought made you even more excited to find the best pieces.
‘Dani is going to love this,’ you thought, smiling when you picked up a piece of sea glass that was the exact blue shade she always loved.
“Wow, is that your hobby?”
The voice startled you. You looked up and saw a woman standing nearby, sunglasses resting on her head and a bright pink bikini hugging her figure. She smiled when your eyes met.
“Collecting seashells?” she added.
You frowned slightly, confused. You didn’t know her, and you weren’t sure why she was talking to you at all.
“Uh…” you said carefully, tightening your hold on the shells. “Can I help you?”
“I think so,” the woman said smoothly, stepping a little closer. Her eyes moved over you in a way that had nothing to do with the shells. “I’m Gabriela. I was just sitting over there thinking it’s kind of a shame someone as pretty as you is walking along the beach all alone.”
You blinked, taking a moment to process what she said.
“Oh. Well, I’m not actually alone,” you said honestly, pointing back toward the bright umbrella far behind you. “I’m here with someone. I’m just trying to find the right shells for a necklace. It needs to be perfect.”
Gabriela laughed softly and brushed her hair back from her face. “A necklace? That’s cute. Still, someone as focused as you deserves a cold drink and better company than birds and sand. There’s a beach bar up the boardwalk. I could buy you something.”
That’s when it finally hit you. She was flirting. You merely gave her a polite but tight smile, clearly not interested.
“That’s nice of you,” you replied, distracted, your thoughts still on the necklace. “But we already brought a cooler with drinks. I also need to find a flat piece of coral. Have you seen one around?”
Her smile faltered just a little. She clearly wasn’t used to being brushed off, especially over coral. She reached out as if to look at the shells in your hands, her fingers almost touching your arm.
You quickly moved your arm away, keeping your grip firm. Gabriela’s eyes narrowed for a second, but she covered it with another practiced smile, as charming as she could muster.
Even so, none of it mattered to you. The only smile that ever really caught your attention was Daniela’s.
“You’re actually pretty cute, you know? Forget the coral. Why don’t you just give me your-”
“Mi amor, why’s it taking you so long to find seashells?”
You knew that voice instantly. Before you could even turn around, Daniela was already there, her arms wrapping securely around your waist from behind. Her bikini fabric and warm skin pressed against your back as she pulled you close.
She rested her chin on your shoulder, her curls brushing your cheek. She didn’t even look at you at first. Her eyes were fixed on Gabriela sharply, making it very clear she wasn’t interested in sharing.
“And she definitely doesn’t need a drink,” Daniela added, her hand spreading over your stomach, her thumb hooking over the waistband of your trunks. “She’s already taken care of.”
Heat rushed through you at how touchy she suddenly was. You weren’t expecting it, but you were more than thankful she stepped in and saved you from the awkward situation. Gabriela’s smile cracked into an evident look of annoyance.
“Dani, look,” you said happily, completely ignoring Gabriela now as you lifted your hands to show the shells. “I found so many pretty ones.”
Daniela glanced down at your palms, her eyes softening immediately when she saw how carefully you’d chosen them. Normally, she would’ve teased you and praised your picks, maybe even kissed you right away. But after seeing someone flirt with you, jealousy still twisted in her chest.
“I can’t wait to wear them when you turn them into a necklace,” she said with a gentle grin, then leaned in and kissed you on the lips. Right in front of Gabriela. Her eyes stayed on the other woman the entire time, daring her to say anything.
Gabriela clenched her jaw, clearly upset, before scoffing and turning away. She walked off without another word.
Only then did Daniela finally relax, relief settling in her chest as she held you closer, leaving the two of you alone again.
“Do you wanna go swimming now?”
Her question made you blink with a small hint of surprise. “Didn’t you say earlier that you were going to swim later?”
“I know, but I changed my mind,” she said casually, giving your arm a light pull while looking at you with excited eyes. You smiled at her reaction and leaned in to give her a gentle peck on the nose.
“Okay, I’ll just put these seashells away first, then I’ll come back.”
She watched you jog off, your feet leaving patterns in the sand with every step. You set the seashells down on the beach mat near the umbrella, moving a little too fast because you were clearly excited too. The idea of swimming together in the salty water had you smiling to yourself.
You picked up the camera and slipped the strap over your neck. When Daniela saw you running back toward her much faster than before, her face shifted into a surprised look. Before she could fully understand what you were about to do, you suddenly lifted her up, holding her so you were facing each other.
“Hey! You know I can walk,” she giggled, smiling wide as she automatically wrapped her arms around your waist. Feeling her weight against you was calming, having her so close like this and all. You smiled back, carrying her toward the water.
You felt the change from the burning hot sand to the cool, sharp touch of the ocean. As you stepped forward, the water moved around your knees, then your waist, sending a cold shiver through you that made you hold the Latina even tighter.
“I know you can walk,” you teased, ignoring the small splashes that soaked your trunks. “But princesses don’t walk into the ocean. They get carried.”
Dani threw her head back, laughing loudly over the sound of the waves crashing nearby. She tightened her arms around your neck and hid her face against your shoulder for a moment to avoid a wave that sprayed a little too hard.
“You’re so ridiculous. Like, literally downbad.”
“Guilty,” you said, stopping once the water reached your waist, the surface shining like silver under the sun.
Slowly, you guided her feet back into the water. She shivered as her toes touched the sandy bottom, pressing her hands lightly against your chest to keep her balance. The waves lifted you both gently, rocking you up and down. You just stayed there for a bit, letting the ocean cradle you. The distance of the last two years felt like a lifetime away.
“It’s so cold!” she squealed, splashing you lightly with the back of her hand. “Why is it always so cold at first?”
“Because you’ve been in sunny LA too long,” you teased, splashing her back just a little, careful not to get her hair wet. “You’ve gotten soft on me, Avanzini.”
“Oh, you did not just say that!”
She lunged at you, hands grabbing your shoulders as she tried to splash you back, but you were steady. Soon enough, you were both a tangled mess of arms and legs, laughing and splashing in time with the waves. You kept a firm hand on her waist the whole time, making sure none of the rogue waves knocked her over.
After a while, as your laughter started to calm down, you remembered the camera hanging around your neck.
“Wait, stay right there,” you said, stepping back carefully. The water tugged at your legs as you moved, slowing your steps. You lifted the camera and adjusted the settings.
“Y/N, no! I look like a drowned rat,” Dani protested, though her cheeks were glowing from running around and the salty breeze. She tried to flatten her curls, which were bouncing wildly in the humid air.
“I disagree. You look like the most beautiful thing on this whole coast,” you said, looking through the viewfinder.
The sun caught her perfectly, highlighting the glow of her skin and the water droplets sparkling on her shoulders. She finally gave in, posing with one hip slightly tilted and a hand behind her head. In an instant, her expression shifted from “girlfriend” to “superstar.”
Then she broke her pose, sticking her tongue out and splashing toward the camera.
“One more! A real one!” you laughed, steadying the camera again.
This time she stopped, just standing there and looking at you. Her wet bikini clung to her, her hair damp and tousled, and her eyes reflected the endless sea. She looked at you with a gaze so tender it felt more intimate than the massage from earlier. She didn't pose this time and just stood there instead, her bikini soaking wet at the hem, her eyes reflecting the vastness of the sea.
Daniela looked at peace. She looked at home.
The second click of the camera shutter hit you harder than you expected. Seeing Dani through the lens with that soft, focused look she gave you, stirred something deep inside. Now you just wanted her completely, away from everyone and everything else.
“Okay, photoshoot’s over,” you said, your voice a little lower than usual, looping the camera strap over your shoulder. She was already wading toward you, surprised.
Dani didn’t even finish. You closed the distance in a flash and lifted her up. But this time, you weren’t holding her like a princess. With a grunt, you flipped her over your shoulder like a fireman’s carry, your arm locking under her knees to keep her secure.
“Babe! What are you doing?!” Dani squealed, her hands flying to your back to steady herself. Her laughter rang out across the waves, a mix of surprise and excitement. “Put me down!”
“Nope,” you replied, marching out of the surf like it was nothing, ignoring her protests completely. The water pushed against your legs, but the weight of her on your shoulder only made you feel more determined. “We’re going back. Now.”
Dani kicked lightly, laughing so hard she could barely breathe. “We haven’t even finished the snacks! And my purse! Y/N, my purse! What if someone steals it while we’re gone?!”
“Fine, fine. I’ll get it,” you groaned in reluctance, stepping onto the hot sand. You bent slightly over the beach mat and grabbed her purse in one smooth motion. Dani tried to wriggle free, but you tightened your grip around her legs, making her squeal and give light, playful punches to your back.
Without a pause, you headed straight for the wooden path that led back to the resort rooms near the dunes. You didn’t even bother with your shoes, slinging the purse over your other shoulder and keeping her firmly across your body the entire way.
"You're being so bossy today," Dani teased, though her voice had lost its playful edge and turned breathy. She shifted her weight, her chest pressing against your back, and you felt her fingers curl into the fabric of your damp bikini. "Is this because of that girl named Gabriela or something? Or did the camera give you ideas?"
"The camera didn't give me ideas, Dani," you said, your grip tightening just a fraction as you reached the stairs of your private balcony. "Looking at you did. You look too good today. It’s actually unfair."
By the time you reached the door to your room, Dani had gone quiet, her cheek resting against your shoulder blade as she realized you weren't joking. You fished the keycard out of your pocket with your free hand, the lock clicking open with a satisfying beep.
You stepped inside, the cool air conditioning hitting your sun-warmed skin like a shock, and kicked the door shut behind you.
Finally, you let her slide down your body. Her feet hit the carpet, but you didn't let her go. You kept her pinned between the door and your frame, your hands coming up to cup her face, your thumbs tracing the line of her jaw.
Dani’s breath hitched. Her hair was a wild, salt-crusted mess, and she was still damp from the ocean. But to you, she had never looked more enticing.
"Finally," she whispered, her hands sliding up your arms to rest on your shoulders, her eyes dark and searching yours. The corner of her mouth curved into a satisfied smile.
"I was wondering when you were going to stop being so polite and just take what's yours."
