It’s been a long time since Tara felt this good about going out, the first time since Amber that she actually, seriously, wanted to go out with someone while knowing it meant more than friendship. The few ‘dates’ she did go to since Amber were basically just parties where she’d get drunk and go back home on her own, never to even think about whoever she went out with romantically.

Yet this was different. This felt right, and it wouldn’t be a party, no Tara had the whole day planned out and she really hoped you wouldn’t mind extending what was supposed to be a coffee and maybe feeding the ducks again to an all day event. But what if that didn’t happen? What if you made plans and now she was going to force you to choose?

If it wasn’t nine in the morning Tara would have already been at your doorstep just so she could stop overthinking. And so she could see you. Unfortunately, it was only nine in the morning and she was forced to pace the apartment hoping the time would pass quicker.

“A match made in heaven,” Sam suddenly commented from the living room.

Tara halted, freezing in place. “Excuse me?” Tara asked, looking at her sister like she just grew an extra head.

“Zack is describing Y/N doing the exact same thing you are doing right now,” she shrugged, pointing her phone at Tara, and sure enough her sister was texting your brother, finding mutual ground in dealing with you and Tara being nervous about the first date.

Tara glared at the phone, seeing the latest messages. Sam was the first to complain, apparently, and Zack was quick to assure her he was dealing with the exact same thing. “I’m not nervous, I just want this to go well,” Tara muttered, pouting at Sam.

At that exact moment her phone buzzed in her pocket, startling her. “What if it’s her, canceling the date?” she asked frantically, only to be met with the most blank stare Sam could muster. “Right, she wouldn’t,” Tara chuckled awkwardly as she pulled out her phone. “Chad and Mindy are coming over,” she said, a bit confused by the sudden visit, but she wasn’t about to say no to a way to get her mind off her date with you.

“Cool,” Sam replied, for once just chilling and Tara glanced at her, at the small, somewhat hidden smile on Sam’s face. There was that guy that caught Sam’s eye recently. Danny? Something like that. Something told Tara she’d soon get a chance to tease Sam back.

For now she’d let her sister enjoy her secret.

About fifteen minutes later Chad and Mindy arrived and Chad looked guilty as Mindy looked sternly at him. “What happened?” Sam asked, already on alert.

Mindy sighed and looked at Tara apologetically. “Dumbass here did something he needs to apologize for,” she said, nudging Chad to step forward.

Chad looked at his sister like he was silently pleading her not to make him do this, but it was already too late as far as Mindy was concerned and she motioned for him to just go ahead and get it over with. “I,” Chad paused, searching for words. “visited,” Mindy cleared her throat behind him. “Fine, fine,” he huffed. “I may have,” this time Mindy cleared her throat a bit louder. “I caused a scene at Y/N’s gym,” he reluctantly admitted.

The silence felt heavy as both her and Sam looked at Chad, though Sam didn’t look nearly as surprised as Tara. For Tara it felt absurd, ridiculous that he would even think about doing it.

“What did you do, Chad?” Sam asked before Tara could. And it was for the better, Tara wasn’t sure she had it in her to ask him that as calmly as Sam did.

Chad, for what it was worth it, looked ashamed. “Got into a fight,” he said quietly.

“Not quite a fight, he swung wildly before Y/N pinned him to the ground,” Mindy clarified, like it made it any better, like it made it okay, but at the end of the day he was her brother, so Tara understood where Mindy was coming from.

It still hurt that he’d do something like this. For what? Because he didn’t want someone new to be a part of their group. He accepted Anika, so why not you?

“Why?” she asked simply, not quite feeling betrayed, but close to it. Chad was always a supportive friend, the one guy she felt she could turn to, and sure, he was always protective, but that never came in the way of her relationships before. And now it could have gotten in the way. It didn’t, if your refusal to complain about Chad’s temper tantrum was anything to go by, but it could have.

“I just thought she wasn’t good for you,” Chad defended his actions awkwardly, and Tara sighed, softening up a bit. She would give him the benefit of the doubt because it didn’t affect anything between you, but she wouldn’t do it again if he did something stupid like that.

“She’s my choice,” it was as simple as that. More than anything Tara felt like what she really needed ever since what Amber did, was the right to choose, whether the choice was good or bad. And she was certain this was a good choice, but she needed to be the one who makes it, to take back control over her life instead of only being able to react to what was going on.

“But-“ he had the guts to argue, to look hurt, like she was breaking his heart by choosing you.

“No, no buts, Chad. Y/N is here to stay,” for a long, long time, she hoped, and Chad would have to learn to live with it.

And the way he looked at her, almost the same way she looked at Amber when she realized that she was betrayed, that the girl she loved her wanted to kill her, made her realize the truth. Chad liked her. “You’ll find someone else,” she didn’t apologize, she wouldn’t apologize for not liking him back. She didn’t owe that to anyone.

“Tara,” he tried to call out to her, but she just shook her head, grabbing her bag.

“I’m going to Y/N,” she told Sam, but it was clear Sam already figured it out.

You finished making waffles, a desperate attempt to calm your nerves by cooking. “Nate, breakfast is ready, buddy!” you called out to your nephew and you glanced toward the living room to see him putting away his half-finished dinosaur puzzle. Maria got it for him, and you had to hand it to her, now that she knew how to approach him it was a lot more likely that her and Zack might actually get together.

And you couldn’t think of a better outcome for the two of them and Nate.

“Wash your hands,” you quickly told him and he gave you his usual puppy eyes, and as hard as it was to tell him no, you pointed toward the bathroom.

“Okay,” he gave in, pouting a bit, but going to wash his hands.

The sound of doorbell ringing caught your attention. “I got it!” Zack called out and you heard him chuckling. “In the kitchen, cooking her nerves away,” a smile spread across your face as you realized it had to be Tara.

And sure enough it was her, looking even more beautiful than usual, in the simplest, most casual shirt and jeans, with barely any makeup and her hair flowing freely and for a moment you forgot to breathe. “Good morning,” you weren’t sure if you were making a statement or greeting her.

Tara shook her head. “Hi,” she said with a blush on her face that made it painfully clear she noticed the way you were looking at her.

“I, uh, made waffles,” you gestured toward the pile on the table. Professional deformation, you supposed.

And Tara stared at the pile for a moment before starting to giggle. “Are you selling these?”  

“That’s a great idea,” Zack said, walking over to get a few and just began munching on them.

“Susan will take them to the hospital,” you figured, or Nate could take some to the kindergarten, or something, they wouldn’t go to waste.

Tara’s eyes softened as you filled a plate with waffles. “Mind sharing?” she asked, like there was a reality in which you were happy to share with strangers, but not with her.

“You tell me,” you said, raising your arm to offer her a hug and she went a step further, wrapping one arm around your shoulders and kissing your cheek as she swiped a waffle from your plate. “Sneaky,” you teased.

“Right back at you,” she whispered into your ear, completely comfortable like this. “I heard what happened at the gym,” she whispered and the smile dropped from your face. “Hey,” she noticed it immediately. “I’m not upset with you,” she assured you as she cupped your cheek and made you look into her eyes.

She really wasn’t upset. “Chad and I got it sorted out, I didn’t want you to worry,” in hindsight maybe that was something you should work on. You didn’t like the idea of others worrying, even if it often meant you’d rather do things on your own. Zack was the only one who knew, not Susan, not David.

And a part of you feared that with how new this whole thing was for Tara, with how quickly you went from strangers to having your first date, especially with that very rocky start, that maybe it would affect you both.

“I chose you, and I’ll keep choosing you,” your breath hitched as Tara whispered that, her tone soft, comforting, in ways she didn’t even know, and you gave in, for once making a conscious effort not to overthink this and instead just let it happen naturally.

“Oh, hi, miss Tara!” Nate exclaimed, breaking you and Tara apart unknowingly and Zack smacked his forehead at his son’s unfortunate timing.

“Hi, Nate,” Tara smiled, but then seemed to fully realize what the boy said. “Miss?” she spluttered, looking adorably betrayed by the chosen word. “I am not old,” she turned to you, hurt, while Nate looked between you both confused.

“We both are in his eyes,” you comforted her, offering her another waffle.

“Maybe go with auntie next time,” Zack snickered, luckily Nate decided waffles deserved a lot more of his attention.

On the other hand, you and Tara looked at him, horrified and blushing profusely respectfully. “Zack,” you warned him, but there was that mischievous look in his eyes.

“What? He should go with you,” the professional rage baiter that he is, he faked the look of realization. “Oh, you thought I told him to call Tara auntie,” he was having too much fun with this and you threw a kitchen towel at him. It wasn’t really effective as he caught it while smirking at both you and Tara before raising his hands in surrender and leaving the kitchen.

“Sorry about that,” you told Tara as you went to the fridge. “Teasing is kind of his love language when he’s not serious,” you explained, even if you knew how annoying that could easily get.

Tara chuckled awkwardly, but from her tone you noticed she wasn’t uncomfortable, just surprised. “I can’t say I experienced that,” she admitted a bit sadly, maybe wondering if that was how her and Sam would have been if not for everything that happened. Sure, you saw Sam teasing her every once in a while, but never the way Zack teased you.

You leaned over her from behind, wrapping your arms around her shoulders. “It’s not too late for that,” you whispered, aware that her and Sam were catching up on so many missed moments, perhaps this, or something like this would eventually become their normal. “I met Zack when I was nine,” you revealed, just for her to hear. “And we turned out fine,” you added, smiling as she turned to look at you, utterly shocked by this revelation.

“Story for another time?” she asked, and you nodded, today was meant for your date, not an old family tale.

“What’s the plan for today?” you asked, she refused to even give you a hint, so you were going into this date completely blind.

“There’s this quiet coffee shop,” she began and you hummed, already on board with the idea. “And it’s near the park so we could go for a walk later,” she added, getting a nod from you. “There’s an amusement park, or we could go to that new art exhibition,” she suggested, biting her lower lip a bit nervously and you had to resist the urge to look at her lips.

“How about both?” you asked and it was clearly the best option, as her eyes lit up with joy.

And you felt so at peace you felt like you were floating, like you were right where you belonged here with her. “Want to watch a movie after all that?” you offered, for a split second afraid that you went too far, but Tara nodded, her smile widening.

A month and a half later you and Tara were officially dating and inevitably the first fight in your relationship finally happened. Not an argument, you just had your fight and came back home with bruises.

Meaning, for the first time, Tara was in your room while the apartment was empty. Nate was in the kindergarten, Susan and Zack were at work, and it was just the two of you, in your room, alone, as she checked the bruise on your cheek. It wasn’t too bad, she figured, you weren’t panicking, at the very least.

Tara was panicking though, for an entirely different reason, and her heart refused to slow down.

“You should see the other girl,” you joked, like she didn’t go with you to your fight, like she wasn’t right next to Zack the whole fight, watching you closely as you fought, panicking and cheering and pouring water over you between rounds. She saw the other girl, you won.

“I don’t date the other girl,” she huffed, hating the way you winced when she checked the bruise on your left side.

“Fair,” you chuckled, even as it came out a bit strained. “I’m going to stop after I become the champion,” you suddenly said, revealing it for the first time to her. David did mention you didn’t intend to do this for a living for a long time, she just didn’t realize how set in stone your plan was.

“Right away?” she asked, just to be sure, and you nodded.

“I don’t really like getting hit,” you were only half-joking. “I get the title and retire, I like cooking a lot more anyway,” she knew that. As natural as you were when it came to martial arts she could tell you were a lot more comfortable while cooking.

“I’ll support you no matter what you decide,” she might gasp and flinch when you get hit, she might fuss over you after the fight, she might even complain about seeing you in pain, but she’d be by your side regardless of how long it takes for you to get the title. “Wait, how are you so sure you’ll get the title soon?” she asked teasingly.

You smirked, the confidence clear in your eyes. You knew exactly how good at fighting you were. “You doubt me, Carpenter?” you asked in that same teasing tone.

“Maybe I think I can take you,” she leaned in, her lips almost touching yours before she chickened out and pulled back; the two of you were yet to kiss despite all the dates you went on over the past month and a half.

“Bold claim,” you raised an eyebrow and she got up, taking a fighting stance that would have had you frantically fixing everything about it if you were teaching her self-defense. She knew it would annoy you.

“Come at me,” she challenged as your jaw dropped, and after a few moments you nodded, getting up and raising your hands, your posture a lot more relaxed than when you gave her classes and she teasing threw a few slow, light jabs, her fist not even making a sound as it ‘hit’ your palm.

You moved to the side, stepping out of the way and hugging her, laughing alongside her as she took hold of your wrists and pushed ever so slightly, so lightly it wouldn’t push even someone caught unaware, but you moved, letting her push you onto your bed, letting her pin you down.

Tara looked into your eyes, by now used to how soft your gaze was when you looked at her. Considering how fierce and determined you could get, especially when you were focused, this alone was often enough to make her heart beat faster.

“Are you going to give up?” she asked, her lips so close she could almost feel them touching.

“You mean tap out?” you asked, just letting her hold you down, letting her keep your hands pinned to the bed.

“Is that what it’s called?” she teased you, on purpose acting like she had no idea what the terms were.

“Mhm,” you said. “I thought I taught you better,” you could play the game just as well.

“Maybe you’re a lousy teacher,” you weren’t and she knew that, but she was enjoying this too much not to keep going.

You raised an eyebrow and she could swear she saw gears turning in your head, like you were deciding if you wanted to take the bait, but the smirk on your face made it clear you already made the decision. “Am not,” you denied it.

“You’re distracting,” Tara stated, and she truly believed that, she wasn’t even teasing you. “In so many annoying ways,” she whispered, her lips brushing against yours.

“Right back at you,” you whispered, sending shivers down her spine.

And she just did it, she closed the distance between you, pressing her lips against yours, slowly, like she still wasn’t sure if she was ready to let go and fall the way she knew she would if she allowed it. She thought she could control it, she thought it wouldn’t affect her that much, yet the moment your lips met she was in free fall, laying all of her weight on top of you and letting go of your right hand to caress your cheek.

Your hand, freed from her grasp, made found its way to her side and moved over her shirt to her back, hugging her gently as you kissed her back. It wasn’t a deep, passionate kiss, it was simple, slow even, contrasting the bold teasing as you both eased into it.

She was still breathless when you parted, smiling against your lips until you tapped her back, tapping out, surrendering to her, and she burst out laughing, hugging you and burying her face in your neck.

“I love you,” you just confessed, without dramatic declarations of love, without making it some grand confession, it was simple and honest.

And she responded in kind. “I love you too,” she said, looking into your eyes, feeling like she found with you what she’s been missing for so long.

a/n: after seeing that insta post i just HAD to make this...

At last, your girlfriend was finally allowed to take a vacation and spend the holidays with her family. Of course, you were included in that plan without question.

It felt like it took forever to happen, but you were just happy that you could finally be with her in person again. You had missed her a lot, and seeing her face to face made everything feel worth it.

Still, it wasn’t like she ever ignored you while she was gone. Even with tours, schedules, and being stuck in LA most of the time, she always made time to call you whenever she could. She never forgot to text either, even if it was just something small.

That was just how Daniela Avanzini was with the person she truly loved. Because of that, you never really understood when people said dating someone famous was hard, or that they were too busy for a relationship. Daniela never made you feel pushed aside or forgotten.

Even the distance never stopped the two of you from loving each other.

There was one thing you knew for sure, though: whenever she came back home to Atlanta, a beach trip was always part of the plan. You definitely didn’t mind, especially when it meant seeing your girlfriend in a bikini.

“Oh my god, Y/N. I missed this so, so much,” Daniela murmured, almost to herself, while she stared out at the beach. She was wearing a light cover-up cardigan over her bikini, along with your swim trunks that she had borrowed from you, because when she wanted something, she always got it.

The ocean moved in gentle waves, and there were people scattered across the beach. Some were sitting on beach mats, others walking barefoot across the sand.

“I can tell,” you replied with a soft smile, watching her from behind. You stood in place, weighed down by the heavy cooler in your left hand, a folded beach umbrella tucked under your right arm, and your girlfriend’s tiny vintage purse hanging awkwardly from your shoulder.

As you fixed the strap of the flower-patterned purse so it wouldn’t fall, she turned to look at you and frowned a little. She was clearly worried because you refused to let her carry anything at all.

Moments like this always made her feel like a princess around you, whether she admitted it or not.

“You know I can carry something,” she argued, like it was the most logical thing ever. “At least my purse. It’s literally mine.”

Being completely whipped, you shook your head right away. “Nope. Your only job is to look pretty and find us a good spot.”

She rolled her eyes, but it was full of affection, and her cheeks turned pink anyway. She leaned in and kissed your cheek, whispering, “You’re really making me fall harder for you.”

The kiss made you blush too, and you smiled proudly, feeling even more set on carrying everything for her. At the same time, she looked around, clearly trying to find a place so you wouldn’t have to keep holding all the stuff.

“Over there!” she said, pointing to an open spot on the sand. You looked where she pointed, and before you could react, she grabbed your hand and laced her fingers with yours, pulling you along.

“Come on. I wanna enjoy the beach already.”

Your face lit up when she took your hand, and you couldn’t help but admire her as she led you forward. Her natural curls moved with the soft breeze, and she looked relaxed and happy.

Once you reached the spot, you started setting everything up. You opened the beach umbrella, laid out the mat, and placed the cooler to the side where the drinks were. You carefully put her purse down on the mat too.

“So, are you gonna swim?” you asked, glancing at her.

Instead of answering right away, she started pulling off the swim trunks, wiggling a little to slide them down. That left her toned legs and bikini fully visible.

You froze, your breath catching as you stared without meaning to. It felt like she had completely distracted you on purpose.

She looked up and caught you staring like it was the first time you’d ever seen her in a bikini. A small, amused smirk spread across her face. You quickly turned away, clearing your throat, pretending you definitely hadn’t been looking just now.

Noticing how flustered you were, an idea slowly formed in her head. She ignored the way you had been staring and looked out toward the water instead, acting casual.

“Maybe later,” she answered calmly. “I just wanna relax in the sun for now.”

She reached into her purse and pulled out a bottle of coconut-scented oil. When she opened it, her smile grew more playful.

“And since you’ve been taking such good care of me, I think I should return the favor with a massage.”

She had to bite back a laugh when she saw your reaction. You looked completely shocked, cheeks burning red, the blush spreading all the way to your ears. Today, you felt extra aware of everything, especially your girlfriend and the bikini she was wearing.

“I mean- yeah, sure,” you said, clearing your throat and trying to act normal. You lifted your shirt a little, showing the bikini top underneath. You told yourself it was just hot out. That had to be the reason you felt like this.

Now it was Daniela's turn to stare. You could feel her eyes slowly taking you in, from your collarbone down to your stomach. You shifted a bit, suddenly very aware of yourself.

“Lay down.”

You listened right away, turning so your back faced her. She moved closer and lightly swung one leg over yours, sitting over your thighs. Her weight wasn’t heavy, but it grounded you. She poured a good amount of the oil into her hands and rubbed them together.

You buried your face into your arms, trying to steady your breathing. Her bare skin against yours made your thoughts drift places you were trying not to think about.

Her hands finally touched you, warm and slick with oil, starting at the base of your neck. Her thumbs pressed into the tight spots you’d been carrying since traveling and hauling all the beach stuff.

When you let out a quiet sigh, she smiled to herself, clearly pleased that she’d found a sore spot.

“Does that feel good?” she asked softly.

You hummed in response, eyes closed. “Yeah… it feels really good.”

She noticed your reaction as her hands moved slowly down your back with a steady pressure. When she reached your lower back, her touch turned light, fingertips brushing over the sensitive skin right above the waistband of your swim shorts. It was enough to make you shiver.

She stayed there for a moment, her nails lightly tracing before her hands slid back up your sides. She did it again, repeating the motion, each time letting her hands drift a little closer to your hips, a little nearer to the spots that made your breath hitch then pulling away just before it became too much.

Whatever she was doing completely ruined your attempt to relax, and it only made the heat building inside you worse.

“Dani…”

“Hmm?” You could hear the teasing smile in her voice. She leaned down, her chest brushing against your back for a brief second as she spoke softly against your skin, her tone hopeful. “You like that?”

Inside, you tried to calm yourself down, though your breathing was already heavier while reminding yourself that you're supposed to enjoy the beach with your girlfriend instead of thirsting over her.

When you didn’t respond, she just gave your shoulders one last strong squeeze, her thumbs slowly following the line of your collarbone before she pulled her hands away. The sudden loss of her warmth made your skin tingle.

“There,” she said lightly, patting your shoulder like she was proud of herself. “All paid for.”

Your head felt completely messed up. You stood up so fast you nearly tripped over the edge of the beach towel. Your heart was beating way too hard, and you knew that if you stayed even a moment longer under her teasing, half-lidded stare, you would completely lose it.

“Uh- yeah. That was really good,” you said quickly, refusing to look at her as your eyes darted toward the ocean. “Um… should I go look for seashells for you? I could make you a necklace.”

Daniela blinked, clearly not expecting that at all. But the idea of a necklace made from shells you picked yourself slowly made her smile, her expression softening.

“Yeah. I would love that.”

You nodded a little too eagerly before turning around and heading toward the shore.

“Alright, gorgeous. Just wait for me!” you called out over your shoulder without looking back. Daniela giggled, amused by how obvious you were. It was clear how much she affected you, and she felt grateful all over again that she finally got to spend this vacation with you.

When you reached the waterline, you bent down every few steps to pick up shells that caught your eye. Wet sand pressed between your toes as you carefully checked every small shine of white, cream, and pale pink.

In your mind, you were already planning the necklace. One perfect shell in the center, with smaller, smooth ones on each side. You imagined how it would look around her neck, and the thought made you even more excited to find the best pieces.

‘Dani is going to love this,’ you thought, smiling when you picked up a piece of sea glass that was the exact blue shade she always loved.

“Wow, is that your hobby?”

The voice startled you. You looked up and saw a woman standing nearby, sunglasses resting on her head and a bright pink bikini hugging her figure. She smiled when your eyes met.

“Collecting seashells?” she added.

You frowned slightly, confused. You didn’t know her, and you weren’t sure why she was talking to you at all.

“Uh…” you said carefully, tightening your hold on the shells. “Can I help you?”

“I think so,” the woman said smoothly, stepping a little closer. Her eyes moved over you in a way that had nothing to do with the shells. “I’m Gabriela. I was just sitting over there thinking it’s kind of a shame someone as pretty as you is walking along the beach all alone.”

You blinked, taking a moment to process what she said.

“Oh. Well, I’m not actually alone,” you said honestly, pointing back toward the bright umbrella far behind you. “I’m here with someone. I’m just trying to find the right shells for a necklace. It needs to be perfect.”

Gabriela laughed softly and brushed her hair back from her face. “A necklace? That’s cute. Still, someone as focused as you deserves a cold drink and better company than birds and sand. There’s a beach bar up the boardwalk. I could buy you something.”

That’s when it finally hit you. She was flirting. You merely gave her a polite but tight smile, clearly not interested.

“That’s nice of you,” you replied, distracted, your thoughts still on the necklace. “But we already brought a cooler with drinks. I also need to find a flat piece of coral. Have you seen one around?”

Her smile faltered just a little. She clearly wasn’t used to being brushed off, especially over coral. She reached out as if to look at the shells in your hands, her fingers almost touching your arm.

You quickly moved your arm away, keeping your grip firm. Gabriela’s eyes narrowed for a second, but she covered it with another practiced smile, as charming as she could muster.

Even so, none of it mattered to you. The only smile that ever really caught your attention was Daniela’s.

You knew that voice instantly. Before you could even turn around, Daniela was already there, her arms wrapping securely around your waist from behind. Her bikini fabric and warm skin pressed against your back as she pulled you close.

She rested her chin on your shoulder, her curls brushing your cheek. She didn’t even look at you at first. Her eyes were fixed on Gabriela sharply, making it very clear she wasn’t interested in sharing.

“And she definitely doesn’t need a drink,” Daniela added, her hand spreading over your stomach, her thumb hooking over the waistband of your trunks. “She’s already taken care of.”

Heat rushed through you at how touchy she suddenly was. You weren’t expecting it, but you were more than thankful she stepped in and saved you from the awkward situation. Gabriela’s smile cracked into an evident look of annoyance.

“Dani, look,” you said happily, completely ignoring Gabriela now as you lifted your hands to show the shells. “I found so many pretty ones.”

Daniela glanced down at your palms, her eyes softening immediately when she saw how carefully you’d chosen them. Normally, she would’ve teased you and praised your picks, maybe even kissed you right away. But after seeing someone flirt with you, jealousy still twisted in her chest.

“I can’t wait to wear them when you turn them into a necklace,” she said with a gentle grin, then leaned in and kissed you on the lips. Right in front of Gabriela. Her eyes stayed on the other woman the entire time, daring her to say anything.

Gabriela clenched her jaw, clearly upset, before scoffing and turning away. She walked off without another word.

Only then did Daniela finally relax, relief settling in her chest as she held you closer, leaving the two of you alone again.

“Do you wanna go swimming now?”

Her question made you blink with a small hint of surprise. “Didn’t you say earlier that you were going to swim later?”

“I know, but I changed my mind,” she said casually, giving your arm a light pull while looking at you with excited eyes. You smiled at her reaction and leaned in to give her a gentle peck on the nose.

“Okay, I’ll just put these seashells away first, then I’ll come back.”

She watched you jog off, your feet leaving patterns in the sand with every step. You set the seashells down on the beach mat near the umbrella, moving a little too fast because you were clearly excited too. The idea of swimming together in the salty water had you smiling to yourself.

You picked up the camera and slipped the strap over your neck. When Daniela saw you running back toward her much faster than before, her face shifted into a surprised look. Before she could fully understand what you were about to do, you suddenly lifted her up, holding her so you were facing each other.

“Hey! You know I can walk,” she giggled, smiling wide as she automatically wrapped her arms around your waist. Feeling her weight against you was calming, having her so close like this and all. You smiled back, carrying her toward the water.

You felt the change from the burning hot sand to the cool, sharp touch of the ocean. As you stepped forward, the water moved around your knees, then your waist, sending a cold shiver through you that made you hold the Latina even tighter.

“I know you can walk,” you teased, ignoring the small splashes that soaked your trunks. “But princesses don’t walk into the ocean. They get carried.”

Dani threw her head back, laughing loudly over the sound of the waves crashing nearby. She tightened her arms around your neck and hid her face against your shoulder for a moment to avoid a wave that sprayed a little too hard.

“You’re so ridiculous. Like, literally downbad.”

“Guilty,” you said, stopping once the water reached your waist, the surface shining like silver under the sun.

Slowly, you guided her feet back into the water. She shivered as her toes touched the sandy bottom, pressing her hands lightly against your chest to keep her balance. The waves lifted you both gently, rocking you up and down. You just stayed there for a bit, letting the ocean cradle you. The distance of the last two years felt like a lifetime away.

“It’s so cold!” she squealed, splashing you lightly with the back of her hand. “Why is it always so cold at first?”

“Because you’ve been in sunny LA too long,” you teased, splashing her back just a little, careful not to get her hair wet. “You’ve gotten soft on me, Avanzini.”

“Oh, you did not just say that!”

She lunged at you, hands grabbing your shoulders as she tried to splash you back, but you were steady. Soon enough, you were both a tangled mess of arms and legs, laughing and splashing in time with the waves. You kept a firm hand on her waist the whole time, making sure none of the rogue waves knocked her over.

After a while, as your laughter started to calm down, you remembered the camera hanging around your neck.

“Wait, stay right there,” you said, stepping back carefully. The water tugged at your legs as you moved, slowing your steps. You lifted the camera and adjusted the settings.

“Y/N, no! I look like a drowned rat,” Dani protested, though her cheeks were glowing from running around and the salty breeze. She tried to flatten her curls, which were bouncing wildly in the humid air.

“I disagree. You look like the most beautiful thing on this whole coast,” you said, looking through the viewfinder.

The sun caught her perfectly, highlighting the glow of her skin and the water droplets sparkling on her shoulders. She finally gave in, posing with one hip slightly tilted and a hand behind her head. In an instant, her expression shifted from “girlfriend” to “superstar.”

Then she broke her pose, sticking her tongue out and splashing toward the camera.

“One more! A real one!” you laughed, steadying the camera again.

This time she stopped, just standing there and looking at you. Her wet bikini clung to her, her hair damp and tousled, and her eyes reflected the endless sea. She looked at you with a gaze so tender it felt more intimate than the massage from earlier. She didn't pose this time and just stood there instead, her bikini soaking wet at the hem, her eyes reflecting the vastness of the sea.

The second click of the camera shutter hit you harder than you expected. Seeing Dani through the lens with that soft, focused look she gave you, stirred something deep inside. Now you just wanted her completely, away from everyone and everything else.

“Okay, photoshoot’s over,” you said, your voice a little lower than usual, looping the camera strap over your shoulder. She was already wading toward you, surprised.

“Wait, I wanted to see-”

Dani didn’t even finish. You closed the distance in a flash and lifted her up. But this time, you weren’t holding her like a princess. With a grunt, you flipped her over your shoulder like a fireman’s carry, your arm locking under her knees to keep her secure.

“Babe! What are you doing?!” Dani squealed, her hands flying to your back to steady herself. Her laughter rang out across the waves, a mix of surprise and excitement. “Put me down!”

“Nope,” you replied, marching out of the surf like it was nothing, ignoring her protests completely. The water pushed against your legs, but the weight of her on your shoulder only made you feel more determined. “We’re going back. Now.”

Dani kicked lightly, laughing so hard she could barely breathe. “We haven’t even finished the snacks! And my purse! Y/N, my purse! What if someone steals it while we’re gone?!”

“Fine, fine. I’ll get it,” you groaned in reluctance, stepping onto the hot sand. You bent slightly over the beach mat and grabbed her purse in one smooth motion. Without a pause, you headed straight for the wooden path that led back to the resort rooms near the dunes. You didn’t even bother with your shoes, slinging the purse over your other shoulder and keeping her firmly across your body the entire way.

"You're being so bossy today," Dani teased, though her voice had lost its playful edge and turned breathy. She shifted her weight, her chest pressing against your back, and you felt her fingers curl into the fabric of your damp bikini. "Is this because of that girl named Gabriela or something? Or did the camera give you ideas?"

"The camera didn't give me ideas, Dani," you said, your grip tightening just a fraction as you reached the stairs of your private balcony. "Looking at you did. You look too good today. It’s actually unfair."

By the time you reached the door to your room, Dani had gone quiet, her cheek resting against your shoulder blade as she realized you weren't joking. You fished the keycard out of your pocket with your free hand, the lock clicking open with a satisfying beep.

it caught you completely off guard. this was a competition, after all, and you hadn’t expected anyone to be so eager to form connections on day one, let alone be so openly kind to just anyone.

because of that, you kept your distance at first, wary of her intentions during those early weeks. but little by little, her actions started to seem genuine and your walls broke down until you warmed up to her. ever since then, you looked for her in every room and called her your best-friend.

the day you were announced to be the final member of katseye, your hand shot to your mouth, tears swelling in your eyes before you felt daniela’s arms wrap around you.

even when she started dating jonah, that didn’t change. he was always second to you, and god how he hated it.

maybe that’s what led him to break up with her. what led her to your house in the middle of the night, mascara running down her tear streamed cheeks.

you had door dashed some food to your house, and when you heard the knock at your door, you assumed that’s what it was. you open the door and are shocked to see daniela standing there.

you’re shocked, but you don’t pull away. how could you? it’s daniela, your best friend, your everything.

neither of you move much at first, savoring each other’s presence and the feeling of finally being pressed together.

she gently starts to move her lips, and you reciprocate, arms wrapping around her slim waist to hold her close.

her hands start on your shoulders but move to tangle in your hair as she shifts to straddle you.

this time, when she kisses you again, you don't pull away. you let her tongue into your mouth, exploring the way you taste. you feel the way she practically clings to you, the needy way her hips rut down to yours.

you know she needs you, needs to be taken care of in a way that only you can give. you gently move so that she's laid down on the couch, you on top of her, her legs around your waist. you wrap one arm around her waist, your other hand cradling the back of her head carefully.

she lets out a gentle moan into your mouth, borderline whimper, and tugs you closer, if that was even possible.

as kids, you didn't think anything beyond the fact that you liked protecting her and being in her arms. eventually you realized you had fallen for her sometime in high school, and it became your favorite time with daniela because she'd always trust you to tell her when it was ok to look. she'd always want to be as close to you as possible. and you loved it.

today was no exception. as a particularly gory scene plays in the 5th movie, she squeals and jumps fully on top of you, practically straddling you as she buries her head in your neck.

her fingers curled into your shirt, body shaking ever so slightly. your arms wrapped tight around her like they always do, keeping her close and safe.

"you can look now" you tell her once the scene is over, but she makes no move to turn or get off of you. instead, one of her hands trails to the nape of your neck, her other hand on the side of your neck, her long nails scratching slightly.

you look at her, and notice something you've never seen in her eyes before. something new in the way she looked at you, but what was it?

suddenly, it's like she's been struck by lightning and everything she's been working so hard to bury comes flooding out as she just stares at you.

"what's wrong?" you ask her, serious but gentle.

she hesitates before saying "i love you" quiet and barely audible.

Sam, despite being surprised by your presence at her home, left you and Tara alone after dinner, opting to go watch TV as you and Tara remained in the kitchen, with Tara taking her time with the fruit salad you made and you washing dishes.

You noticed Tara setting aside the slices of kiwi in her salad and raised an eyebrow. “You don’t like kiwi?” you asked, surprised that she didn’t say anything.

“The opposite actually, it’s my favorite,” well, that also made sense.

You turned to her as you wiped your hands dry. “I propose a trade,” you grinned. “I give you my kiwi and you give me a fruit of my choosing,” you suggested and though she rolled her eyes at what she undoubtedly believed was a silly idea, she nodded, taking your spoon to take kiwi from your untouched bowl.

“Come on,” she beckoned you to come and get whatever fruit you wanted.

“I could be a real jerk and get the kiwi now,” you teased her, and it technically wouldn’t be going against the deal, since you didn’t specify which fruit you’d take.

Tara gasped, turning to you. “You wouldn’t dare!” she declared with just a tiny hint of uncertainty.

“No, I wouldn’t,” you admitted, taken slightly aback by how close the two of you were without even realizing. “Say, Tara,” you began, finding the necessary confidence. “There’s going to be a bit of a celebration dinner on Sunday, just my family, David and another close friend,” you hesitate for a moment, your mouth suddenly feeling very dry.

“Makes sense, you won a hard fight,” she nodded, probably seeing, at least to an extent, where you might be going with this but still letting you go through with asking.

“Would you come? With Sam, if that would make you more comfortable,” you asked, hopeful but without any pressure.

Tara looked you in the eyes and for a moment you forgot how to breathe as you caught her eyes dropping to your lips before she once more looked into your eyes. “Yeah,” she sounded out of breath, like she felt the exact same way and then snapped out of it “Yeah, of course,” she nodded, getting up and opening the fridge. “Would you like some chocolate with your fruit salad?” she asked, sounding a bit nervous.

You nodded quickly. “Sounds great,” you said, focusing on the fruit salad instead of on Tara.

Sunday came way too quickly for Tara’s liking. She didn’t even go to a party last night, for whatever reason not wanting to have a hangover tonight.

It was only natural to want to leave a good first impression, right? After all, your bad first impression on her made her reluctant to give you a chance for maybe a bit too long, now that she got to know you better. So, she was just being practical, that was all there was to it.

“You’ll be fine,” Sam told her, once again finding amusement in Tara’s nervousness.

“Of course I will,” Tara said with way more confidence than she actually had. “It’s just a dinner to celebrate her victory, I’m not going there to meet the family or anything,” she really didn’t have any reason to be worried about the dinner, yet here she was, pacing the living room when someone knocked on the front doors.

Tara spun around, looking toward the hall and then turned to Sam, paling a bit. “Wait, is Y/N supposed to pick us up?” surely she wouldn’t forget something that important, right?

Sam shook her head. “No, we’re taking an uber,” for a moment memories flash through Tara’s mind, horrible memories that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Amber, wearing her Ghostface disguise, attacking her on that first night. There was no knocking that night, but no one knocked on their doors, Chad and Mindy texted to announce they’d come, no one else came to visit them.

So, while what was happening wasn’t the exact same thing as that night, it was the fear of who was behind the doors that shook Tara to her core, and it clearly affected Sam as well as she grabbed the first larger knife she could get her hands on right away.

“T, Sam, are you there?” Mindy’s voice coming from behind the front doors startled them and at the same time made them able to breathe again.

Sam, without even remembering to leave the knife behind, went and opened the doors. “Woah! Easy!” Chad cried out, probably seeing the knife.

“Shit! Sorry about that,” Sam apologized quickly and Tara snickered in the living room, at least she was no longer as nervous. “How come you didn’t text Tara?” she asked curiously as the three of them rejoined Tara in the living room.

“We did,” Mindy said, making Tara blush as she realized she’s been neglecting her phone over the past two hours. “We got worried when Tara didn’t reply so we came to check up on your two,” she added as Tara went to her room to get her phone, and sure enough there was a message from Mindy and about two dozen frantic messages from Chad.

Tara smiled, feeling warmth inside her chest at the sweet gestures of her childhood friends. Amber may have betrayed her, broken her heart, but she still had Chad and Mindy.

She went back to the living room, showing her phone. “Sorry about that, I was kind of all over the place,” she admitted sheepishly.

“We’re going to Y/N’s place for dinner tonight, and from the looks of it certain someone is very nervous,” Sam teased her, of course she had to tease her and Tara, not knowing what else to do, flipped her sister off.

“Y/N’s place? Why?” Chad asked immediately and the years of paying attention to everyone’s mood kicked in as Tara noticed the instantaneous shift in his demeanor. He didn’t like the news and she couldn’t blame him. He lost Liv last year, who wasn’t just their friend for a bit less than two years, but was also Chad’s girlfriend.

So, the thought of letting someone new in must have terrified him as much as it terrified Tara. “She won her fight and is celebrating,” Tara explained and as one both Chad and Mindy tilted their heads. “She’s an MMA fighter,” she reminded them. Or she at least thought she reminded them.

“That wasn’t what I expected,” Mindy said and Tara realized she, in fact, did not mention it.

“Wait, are you two seriously going?” Chad asked and both Tara and Sam nodded. You weren’t dangerous, she was almost certain of it. You were actually a bit of a softie now that she thought about it.

Sam looked at him for a moment, then looked at Tara, then back at Chad. “It’s just a dinner, it’ll be fine,” Sam said, sounding almost gentle, almost like she was sorry for Chad and Tara had no idea why this was an issue.

Even Mindy seemed to be in on it as she patted Chad on the back. “Come on, dingus, let’s go,” she told him like she was comforting him and Chad nodded, his eyes meeting Tara’s in what could only be described as the look of betrayal.

“Right,” he agreed. “Uh, have fun, you two,” he said, letting Mindy drag him out.

“What did I miss?” Tara asked, turning to Sam.

“Don’t worry, he’ll get over it,” Sam told her and put on her jacket, ready to go.

Tara stood there, now even more confused, until she suddenly remembered there was a party Chad was really excited to go to, some themed party that Mindy was taking Anika too as well, but she wasn’t really paying attention to what the theme was. Either way, that must have been it, he expected Tara to go to the party with them and was now a bit disappointed.

The TV and the conversations from the living room created their own little cacophony of sounds, the usually calm and, especially if Nate wasn’t at home, quiet apartment coming to life, and you’ve never felt better about it as you finished up the final touches for tonight’s dinner. That was one rule you had for these dinners, no one else was allowed near food.

You hummed a tune from the movie you and Tara watched a few days ago, The Babadook, if you remembered correctly. The look on Tara’s face when you told her you’ve never seen it was priceless and you couldn’t help but grin as you brought the salad and bread to the table. “Someone’s in the good mood tonight,” Zack noticed as he set the plates. “Is it about your special guest?”

You rolled your eyes at that and swatted him with a kitchen cloth. “Go talk to Maria already,” you pushed him lightly.

“Bad idea,” he grinned, making you pause before he pointed toward the living room where you saw Nate actually letting Maria look at his drawings. He seemed really eager to show her his latest drawing of a dinosaur, yeah, he was at that age and thought dinosaurs were the coolest thing to ever exist.

“Holy shit,” you whispered under your breath only to be on the receiving end of the kitchen cloth. “Ow, that hurts,” you said in the most even, dry tone you could muster.

“Did you have something to do with this?” he asked suspiciously, his eyes narrowing as you began to whistle and avoid meeting his eyes. “Y/N?” he wasn’t even mad, he liked Maria, he appreciated it, and you knew it, but you weren’t quite ready to admit you may have interfered a bit. “What did you do?” Zack stubbornly asked

“Well, you know,” you dragged the word out on purpose, still acting like that annoying younger sibling from time to time. “If you can’t win them over, bribe them, or something,” you gestured at the toy dinosaur Maria brought for Nate and Zack’s jaw dropped.

You watched, amused, as realization hit him and he tapped his fist on his open palm. “Makes sense, honestly,” he nodded, a tad bit impressed, even if he’d never admit it.

The doorbell rang, cutting your conversation with Zack short, as well as getting Nate’s attention away from his drawings as he jumped to his feet and rushed to the doors with Zack right behind him. You smiled, listening as Zack introduced himself and Nate, and you heard Tara and Sam talking to them, though you couldn’t make out what they were saying, not that you were trying, if you were being honest.

You leaned against the kitchen doorway, and Tara looked at you the moment she came into the living room, her smile matching your own as she subtly gestured toward Susan and Maria, quietly telling you she’d be right by your side soon enough. Your smile widened, your gaze softening even more as Susan met Tara and Sam, animatedly telling them how happy she was to meet them.

“Y/N told us so much about you, Tara,” and your grin vanished, replaced by panic and heat rushing to your face.

“Did she now?” Tara asked, turning toward you and actually winking.

Your heart hammered inside your chest and you realized your legs were suddenly quite a bit like jelly. “Auntie Y/N,” Nate rushed to your rescue, lifting his arms up toward you.

“Up you go,” you lifted him up, definitely glad that he liked being carried around like this, especially when meeting someone new. You saw a bit of uncertainty in his eyes, the pain of abandonment flashing in them. So young and he was already afraid of letting someone new in, of being abandoned again. Now that you thought about it, Tara had that same look in her eyes every now and then, revealed only when she truly lowered her guard and felt vulnerable.

“That’s actually adorable,” Tara said, smiling at Nate as she ruffled his hair. “You are really attached to your aunt, aren’t you Nate?” she asked and the boy in your arms nodded.

“She’s the best,” he said and then, in part due to being shy and in part due to how used he was to that, he hugged you tightly, turning away from Tara and resting his chin on your left shoulder.

“Auntie’s favorite, I see,” Tara noticed without a hint of teasing in her tone, she was just pointing out the obvious.

You smiled. “Definitely,” you said as Susan came to take Nate from your arms and let you properly greet Tara. “Come on buddy, we can hang out later,” you promised him.

“I’ll finish setting the table,” Susan told you, patting you on the back as you and Tara joined Sam at the couch.

“Hey, glad you could make it,” you greeted Sam.

Sam looked at Tara for a moment and then back at you. “Of course, besides, Tara might have chickened out if I wasn’t here,” so it was like that, both of you were being teased by your respective families tonight.

“Sam!” Tara whisper-shouted, much to the amusement of Zack, Maria and David. You just smiled, looking at her, only for Tara to turn toward you. “No, none of that, wipe that smile off your face,” she demanded with a pout on her face as her cheeks turned red.

You put your hand over your mouth and when you lowered it the smile was gone, only for a moment though as you began chuckling. “Sorry, it’s kinda difficult,” you admitted, much to Tara’s annoyance.

“Yeah, yeah,” she huffed, leaning back against the couch and crossing her arms over her chest. “You’re lucky the food smells great,” yet even as she said that you could see she was struggling not to smile.

“Thanks,” you said, leaning back as well and turning your body toward her slightly, and just like that, despite her best efforts she grinned, covering her face with her hands and groaning softly.

“You’re so impossible, you know that, right?” she asked, dropping her hands and just looking at you with what could only be described as fondness. “So damn impossible,” she whispered, smacking your shoulder with the back of her hand so lightly you wouldn’t have even felt it if you didn’t see her do it.

“I know,” you whispered back, taking her right hand and kissing the back of it gently.

Tara’s breath hitched in surprise and you stayed like that for a moment, your lips still pressed against the back of her hand, your eyes locked, like there was no one else in the room with you, and judging by the sound of chatting in the background you figured everyone else decided to ignore you and talk about whatever crossed their mind.

“Did you make something I haven’t tried yet?” Tara asked as she stretched out her finger and caressed your cheek with the back of it.

“Frozen wind cake,” you said, knowing she likely never had it, it wasn’t even on the menu in the restaurant. “It’s got kiwi in it,” you added, watching her face light up at the mere thought of her favorite fruit.

“You make this so stupidly easy, you know that, right?” she asked, confusing you for a moment.

“This being what exactly?” you asked in return, daring to kiss the back of her hand again.

“This,” she whispered, getting a bit more comfortable, but pulling her hand back. “Just as friends for now,” your heart skipped a beat at the ‘for now’ and she chuckled, probably seeing it on your face. “Would you go out with me?” she asked.

You didn’t even try to contain the grin on your face. “Yeah, I’d love that,” you said as Susan came back with Nate in her arms.

“Dinner time, come on,” she ushered you into the dining room and you got up, offering Tara your hand. And she took it, letting you pull her up and she didn’t let go, not until you both sat down at the table set for eight.

He may have gotten a bit too drunk at the party, not that anyone could blame him, he was the only guy without a date. Was it fair to Tara? To not be completely transparent on what the party theme was? Well, at this point it didn’t matter, she was at your place and he was back in his dorm, nursing a heartbreak as he grabbed his phone.

Chad wasn’t really sure what he was going to accomplish with this, but he Googled you, finding a couple of your fights there, and what he saw made him shiver. You were frighteningly strong, quick, precise with every strike, without wasted movements from what he could tell.

Now, he wasn’t a fighter, he was a footballer, an athlete, and he wasn’t sure he could fight you. Yet, against all logic, against all reason and entirely due to his ego, pride and broken heart, he searched for your gym, deciding to go there before alcohol could evaporate from his system and make him rethink this decision. He fell asleep after that, listening to the sounds of one of your fights.

It was just to make sure you weren’t a threat to Tara, it was just that, nothing else. They were all stabbed in the back, figuratively and literally, and he just didn’t want to see her get hurt again.

The morning should have brought him clarity, but it didn’t, it made it even worse, especially when he saw a story on Tara’s Instagram, just the two of you. You didn’t even look that close, yet she wrote ‘Congrats Champ’ in the corner with a small heart underneath the text. And if there were any hopes of him dropping this and cooling his head, they vanished with that.

He took the bus ride from his dorm to where the gym you trained in was, his leg bouncing all the way there as he impatiently waited for the bus to reach his stop. “You okay?” some guy asked him, startling him by accident.

“Yeah, yeah, just impatient,” Chad told him, a bit embarrassed by how obviously anxious he was. The other guy nodded and turned his attention to whatever he was doing. And finally, after what felt like eternity, the bus arrived at the stop near your gym.

The walk to the gym only made him even more anxious, and he wasn’t quite sure what he was planning on doing, or why he even wanted to come face to face with you. Tara wouldn’t fall for you, it was a ridiculous idea. He had nothing to gain from this, whatever this was. Especially if Tara only wanted to be friends with you.

The gym came into view and he slowed down, suddenly not as sure as he was that this was a good decision, but he came this far. The gym loomed over him, intimidating, he couldn’t see anything going on inside, but the mural depicting various martial arts on the wall of the gym gave him a good idea about what the focus was on in this gym.

Still, he got this far and he pushed the doors open, seeing a beautiful blonde woman at the reception, she looked busy, going through some papers and sorting them out before she noticed Chad standing there awkwardly. “Hi, how may I help you?” she asked with a warm, welcoming smile.

“I, well, I was wondering if you’d be able to help me with something,” he wasn’t sure if he could just ask to see you.

“Of course, we’ve got group lessons, individual lessons as well as regular gym membership if you just want to come and get a workout,” she said, pulling out a couple of pamphlets.

Chad swallowed the lump in his throat. “Could you tell me a bit more about individual lessons?” he asked, trying not to give away too much.

The woman, Maria, judging by her nametag, nodded. “Well, Zack and Lucy are booked at the moment, but if you’re interested in wrestling Matt has open spots on Tuesday and Friday.”

“And Y/N L/N? Does she give individual classes?” he asked, clearly surprising Maria.

“No, she doesn’t, actually,” he saw her reaching something he couldn’t see from behind the reception. “Why do you ask?” she asked, cautiously, as if he looked distraught.

“I just,” he hesitated for a moment, and it was enough.

“What’s going on here?” he and Maria heard, and Chad turned to his left, seeing you of all people approaching, looking like you were interrupted in the middle of a workout.

After that night, things don’t go back to what they used to be.

Nothing drastic happens.

The changes were in the little things that went almost unnoticed.

They happen in the in-between of what you both want and the fear of going back to old habits.

Sophia started texting you again.

Not only the texts about your schedule for school drop-offs that filled your screen for the last months, but also a photo of your daughter’s family drawing, an “Are you home yet?” text, or a “Do you want to have dinner with us today?”

You start going inside when you drop off your daughter and having dinner with them anytime she gives you puppy eyes.

Sometimes, when Sophia asks you to have dinner with them and you help her cook, your hands brush against each other as she hands you the ingredients.

But you never let yourself cross the line.

It’s during one of those nights when Sophia brings it up.

“My parents asked if you’re coming home with us for Christmas.” She asks hesitantly. “They still ask about you anytime I call them.”

Your heart starts beating rapidly at Sophia’s question. Her parents loved you from the moment they met you, considering you part of the family long before you even married their daughter. And knowing they still care about you warms up your heart.

You glance up from the vegetables you’re cutting.

“Our daughter should spend Christmas with both of us. And I don’t want you to spend it alone.” Sophia continues before you have the chance to answer. “And I think it would be good for us, you know. It would make us feel like a family again.”

There’s something bare in the way she says it, like she’s offering a piece of the life you used to have. She says it almost as if she’s unsure if you even want it back.

You nod. “I would love that, actually. Thank you for asking. I appreciate it more than you know.”

“Wait, seriously?” Sophia looks relieved. “You don’t think it’s a step too far?”

“Maybe.” You say honestly. “But you’re right. She should have us both there. And I do miss your family.”

Christmas in the Philippines feels warm, not only because of the weather but also because of the people.

The Laforteza household is loud and crowded. It feels alive.

There’s laughter coming from every room, kids running around, and the smell of food is divine.

As soon as you step inside, your daughter disappears almost immediately with her cousins, babbling about her favorite cartoons.

Sophia’s mom pulls you into a long hug, telling you how good it is to see you again and how sorry she is that you’re not with her daughter anymore, even if you hadn’t actually gotten a divorce yet.

They don’t pry, they don’t ask questions that might ruin the mood. They just welcome you with open arms like they always did, like nothing ever happened.

Sophia keeps her eyes on you the entire night.

It’s like her eyes are glued to you, just how they used to be when you were together.

She watches you play with her baby cousins, the way you keep checking on your daughter to make sure she’s alright, the conversations you have with every family member.

At one point during the night, she spots you sitting around on the floor telling stories to all the kids in her family, making them all laugh so hard they can barely breathe.

In that moment, Sophia is sure she made the right choice in asking you to try again.

You fit in with her family and the chaos that came along. You always have.

Later that night, when the house finally gets quieter, you step outside for a much needed moment of peace and quiet.

You lean against the railing, inhaling slowly, letting the quiet calm down your racing mind.

You didn’t hear her at first.

“Too much?” She says softly so she doesn’t startle you.

“Just needed to take a breather.” You turn around. “Did you need something?”

“No.” She shakes her head, and you can see hesitation all over her face. “Just wanted to ask you something.”

She joins you by the railing.

“I was going to tell you to either take a guest room or sleep with our daughter.” Sophia starts.

You nod. That’s what you were already expecting.

“But I don’t want you to do either.” She continues. “I don’t want to keep going like we’re strangers. I can’t keep pretending.”

You look at Sophia, and you can see how nervous and vulnerable she looks.

“So I want you to sleep with me tonight.” She quietly asks. “You don’t have to. I just thought it would be good for us. We could talk. But I get it if it’s too much. I don’t want to rush you.”

Your breath catches, but you try to make the situation lighter.

“Nothing we haven’t done before, right?” You try to joke, awkwardly laughing. “As long as you don’t steal my blankets.”

Sophia is caught off guard, but she smiles because she can see right through your humor. She can tell right away it’s just a deflection of your nerves.

“You know I can’t promise that.” She smiles.

You’ve slept in that bed a million times before, and yet tonight it feels smaller, more intimate.

You linger by the side of the bed that was always yours, suddenly very aware of the step you were about to take.

Sophia notices your hesitation.

She takes a step closer to you but still keeps a little distance.

“There are no expectations.” She says. “We can just sleep. We don’t even have to talk if you don’t want to.”

“Yeah, I know. It’s just been a while, I guess.” You say. “But I want this, I promise.”

Sophia nods before going back to her side to change into her pajamas.

You lie down and try not to steal glances at the body you used to worship.

When she slips under the covers, she leaves spaces between you, but you could tell she wanted more even if she didn’t say it.

“Are you okay?” Sophia asks. “With being back in my parents house and in bed with me.”

“I was nervous, not going to lie.” You admit. “But everyone treated me like nothing happened, so that helped a lot. Made everything feel normal again, I guess.”

“I was nervous too.” Sophia admits. “But I know my family loved you from the moment they met you, so I expected them to act normal.”

Her hand moves on the bed, her palm up. She doesn’t pressure you, but the invitation is there.

After a moment, you finally place your hand on top of hers, lacing your fingers with hers.

The contact is simple, but it brings back the warmth and familiarity it always brought you.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about you and about the future.” Sophia says, barely above a whisper. “I’m terrified of falling back into old patterns.”

“I don’t want that either.” You say. “I want to go back to what we once had. You know, before all the fighting. We used to be happy together. I want that again. Our daughter deserves that.”

Sophia nods with a smile on her face.

“I get what you mean.” She says. “But we’re not starting where we left off. We are starting from here. From this place of love we used to have before everything went wrong.”

Sophia shifts closer to you. Still not enough to touch you, but still closer.

“You know.” She starts, almost shyly. “I feel like this is the first time in months that I don’t feel like I’m walking on eggshells around you. Like I’m scared of saying or doing the wrong thing.”

“Me too, to be honest.” You say. “I’ve been so scared of doing something that might make us fight again.”

“I don’t want to rush this or pretend nothing happened.” Sophia says. “But at the same time, I don’t want to be without you anymore. I miss you so much.”

“I miss you too. I miss us.” You admit. “I’ve been feeling lonely living alone these past few months.”

Sophia cringes at your words.

“I’m sorry I made you move out.” Sophia says. “But in this moment, everything feels right again. I’m here, and I’m not running away from our problems anymore.” Sophia says.

You nod and let yourself enjoy the intimacy of being in the same bed as Sophia once again.

After a moment of silence, you think she might have fallen asleep already, but you can hear her mumbling.

“Goodnight, mahal.”

Your heart skips a beat as you hear that word again. The name she always called you.

You turn your head towards her.

“Sophia.” You whisper, a smile on your lips at the memories. “You can’t expect to call me that and then not give me a goodnight kiss.”

Her eyes open wide.

“Oh!”

She leans in slowly, almost like she was waiting for you to pull away.

Her fingers brush against your cheek in a soft caress, like she’s proving to herself that you’re real and this is really happening.

Then she closes the gap between you.

The kiss is soft, barely there, as if she was testing if this was truly what you wanted.

You kiss her back immediately.

The kiss deepens slowly. Familiarity blooming between you like it never left.

When you finally pull away, you rest your forehead against hers.

“Goodnight.” You whisper.

She presses one more kiss to your lips. This one filled with certainty.

In the Philippines, Christmas starts early. It’s already the beginning of the Christmas season when the calendar hits the ber months. Sometimes, you could even already hear Christmas songs playing as soon as it became September 1st.

During December, Filipinos have a tradition called simbang gabi where families go to church and attend mass either late at night or at dawn, for 9 days until Christmas eve. It is also believed that when you complete simbang gabi, you get to have a wish. It’s one of the reasons why people of various ages, young and old, go. While some, even though they’re not religious, try to complete it. 

Meanwhile for the Lafortezas and the De Leons, it’s part of the tradition and a form of family bonding between the two families during the holiday season.

Ever since you and Sophia were in diapers, your families have been close and have gathered every holiday, making every celebration a huge family get-together. It’s also the reason how you and Sophia became close in the first place.

Both of your parents didn’t force the two of you to hang out with each other every time that there’s a gathering. In fact, when the two of you were children, you and Sophia believed that you were rivals.

In every family gathering, you two would have a mini singing contest or a dance off and whoever gets the most compliments throughout the day, they would get the bragging rights until the next gathering where the cycle starts over again.

Naturally, that rivalry died off when you two reached 10 years old and started to become close friends. You don’t tease each other anymore when one of you had a hard time on a particular dance move but instead started to help one another.

The two of you went from only seeing each other in family gatherings to visiting each other every weekend until it became an almost daily occurrence. 

Everyone became shocked when the two little girls who used to despise each other with their tiny little bodies now became best friends that were attached to each other’s hips.

Sophia’s feelings towards you started to change when you were 16. That was the first time she noticed that her day will never be complete without seeing you. Your smile and laughter suddenly became precious to her and it made her heart burst every time you smiled because of her. She appreciated your presence more and cherished every single memory she has of you.

It’s also around the same time where you observed that she started to act differently around you. When you’re out together, she’d always be the one to open the doors for you and she’d always offer to carry your bag. She also started to become much more protective over you, never letting you leave her sight when the two of you are out with friends or in a family gathering. But the one that you noticed last is the way that she looked at you. She always has this soft look of admiration towards you. It was her true feelings showing without her noticing. 

It wasn’t until Leon started to tease her that Sophia realised that she had fallen in love with you. Not platonically, but romantically. She had thought that love was fireworks and sparks. But in reality, it’s the opposite. It’s a quiet longing, not rushing but slow. It’s calm and it takes its time, like the warmth of  your mug gently heating your cold fingertips in the cold, rainy season.

After months of contemplating on confessing, she finally did it on your birthday. She had rehearsed for that exact moment hours prior, but everything went out the door when you looked at her with silent affection. Ever since that day, the two of you have never left each other’s side.

Due to the long-standing tradition of your families, you already know that this Christmas is going to be just like the ones in the past. After going to church, your family will head over to the Lafortezas and celebrate the noche buena there. But little did you know, Sophia has something up her sleeve this time.

The chilly winds of the December night reminds you that Christmas is just around the corner with a couple of hours left until midnight. You place your hands inside the pockets of your jacket to keep them warm while Sophia talks to your parents.

You’re out of earshot from them and you can only see your parents smiling widely at her. They looked excited for reasons you can’t discern.

Sophia starts walking towards you while your family heads to the parking lot. You notice how she’s a little fidgety but there’s a certain glow to her somehow.

“What was that about?” You ask her.

“I told tito and tita that I’ll take you for a quick detour first.” She answers.

Sophia takes your hand out of your pocket and intertwines your fingers together. The small gesture is enough to warm your heart from the cold winds.

You hum as she starts to lead the way. “Where are we going?”

“You’ll see.” She gives you a toothless smile, making you shake your head at her attempt in surprising you.

After walking for a good 10 minutes, you eventually arrive at the nearby park.

The park is lined with lamps that hail from the Spanish era, giving the paths a warm and cozy glow. Some of the churchgoers are also hanging around the park, strolling around before going home.

You and Sophia frequent this park after masses, sitting down on the grass underneath a tree while talking about anything under the sun. 

Before the two of you could sit down, Sophia let go of your hand.

“I need to tell you something.” She says in a hushed tone which you almost didn’t pick up due to hearing some people laugh in the distance.

Sophia looks down at the grass while retrieving something from her pocket. Your heart skips a beat when she finally brings her hands up front, seeing the warm lights reflecting off of the shiny jewelry. 

“I used to think that you were my mortal enemy when we were six and we kept having these silly competitions to see who’s more talented between us.

When I was 10, I realised that I just wanted to gain your attention. That’s why I kept showing off to you to somehow impress you. Then I just got tired of all the dancing so I befriended you.” You giggle while trying your best to hold your tears back.

“And then my whole world changed when we were 16. That’s when I started getting all these feelings for you. For two years I kept trying to ignore what I felt while you were dating boys that never appreciated you the way that I do. It was at your 18th birthday that Leon finally convinced me to confess while we were watching you slow dance with that boy who had a crush on you.

That Christmas, I wished that you’d say yes for me to become your girlfriend. When you said yes, I promised to myself to become the best partner you could ever have and deserve. To keep going even if the world started to go against us.

y/n, I’m not a perfect woman. I’ve made mistakes like that one time I forgot to turn on the rice cooker and you came home really hungry and the rice wasn’t cooked.” The two of you chuckled but when you blinked, a tear drop fell from your eye.

“But our love is perfect. And I hope that I'll get to spend my entire life with you.” She continues and this time, your tears start to fall down freely. 

“y/n De Leon, will you marry me?” You were already nodding your head yes before her knee even touched the ground.

Sophia couldn’t contain her happiness as she slid the ring onto your finger. You pull her up as soon as you feel it snug on your ring finger.

It felt like only the two of you existed in the world as you felt her lips crashing into yours. Your heart is overflowing with love knowing that no matter what happens, you will be safe, loved, and properly taken care of by Sophia.

“I’m taking your last name, my love.” You immediately blurt out after the kiss.

“What, you don’t want to be a De Leon anymore?” Sophia’s eyes are sparkling in pure happiness and her lip gloss smudged, mixed with the colour of yours.

She pretends to think for a second. “Mhmm, you’re right, it does.”

a/n: sorry i haven’t uploaded in so long. something happened in my life and i’ve been having possibly the worst month of my life but this came to me the other day as i was falling asleep so i had to write it

You wake up with a jump.

You try to ignore it, but your phone just keeps ringing again and again.

You remember putting your phone on do not disturb before going to sleep. You always do.

Then something clicks in your brain.

There was only one person whose calls would still ring.

Sophia’s.

Your body moves on its own before your mind even processes it.

You instantly sat up because if Sophia is constantly calling you over and over again in the middle of the night, then it can’t be good. Something bad must have happened to your daughter.

“What happened?” You say, your voice rough with sleep.

“She had a really bad nightmare about you getting hurt, and now she refuses to go back to sleep unless she sees you.” Sophia says in a worried tone.

“I’ll be there in a second.”

You don’t even change out of your pajamas. You quickly put on a hoodie, grab your keys, and make your way to the house you once shared with Sophia.

The drive feels longer than it actually is.

You grip the wheel with a little more force than you probably should.

Your heart hasn’t slowed down ever since the moment you saw Sophia’s name on your phone. No matter how much time passes, the fear that something might happen to your little girl or Sophia haunts you.

You pull up to the driveway that you once knew like the palm of your hand.

The porch light is on just like Sophia always did when you worked late. For a moment, you are taken aback with the memories of when you couldn’t wait to go home because home meant Sophia.

You barely turn off the car before you’re making your way to the front door. You knock softly just in case your daughter has fallen asleep in the meantime.

Sophia opens the door almost immediately.

She looks exhausted. Her hair is in a messy bun, her sleeves are pulled up, and her eyes look red from tiredness.

She’s wearing an oversized sweater you hadn’t seen in a while.

Your sweater.

The sight makes your chest ache, and you need to remind yourself once again that you are not together anymore, so she doesn’t want you to comfort her anymore.

“She’s in her room.” Sophia says, stepping aside to let you in. “She doesn’t stop asking about you.”

“I’m here.” You nod. “I came as quickly as I could.”

You quickly make your way to your daughter’s room.

You push the door open, and there she was clutching her stuffed panda tightly against her chest. Her eyes, red from crying, snap to the door the moment she sees it open.

You cross her room in two steps as soon as you see her lips start to tremble as if she was going to start crying again.

“Hey.” You whisper, sitting on the edge of her bed and pulling her into your arms. “I’m here, okay? I’m fine.”

“I had a nightmare you got hurt. You weren’t waking up.”

Your chest aches as you hear her talk between sniffles.

You pull away slightly, just enough to cup her face in your hands. “Hey. Look at me.”

She looks up at you like she was searching for proof that you were okay.

“I’m right here, okay?” You say gently. “See? I’m totally fine, and I’m not going anywhere.”

Sophia quietly watches from the doorway with her arms crossed. She was afraid to walk in and interrupt the moment you were having with your daughter.

Seeing you like this, so instinctive and so soft with your daughter, is doing something to her that she isn’t ready to name yet.

Your daughter clings back to your arms. “Please don’t leave.”

“I won’t, I promise.” You say without hesitation, kissing her head.

“No.” She shakes her head. “Like stay-stay.”

You glance towards the door where you could sense Sophia was standing.

“I want both of you.” Your daughter says. “Like it used to be.”

You hesitate. Not because you don’t want to, but because of what spending the night means. All the memories of something you used to have and possibly won’t get back.

“Please.” She says, tightening her arms around you.

And just like that, all your hesitation crumbles away.

“Okay.” You say. “Just tonight.”

“Our bed’s bigger.” Sophia sighs before correcting herself. “My bed’s bigger.”

You nod before turning back to your daughter and seeing her with the biggest grin on her face.

She refuses to let go of you, so you carry her with her head tucked under your chin.

Once you get there, the familiarity hits you even harder than you expected.

Same bed. Same nightstands. Same covers. Same scent of Sophia’s perfume.

You gently lay your daughter down next to Sophia.

You stand there feeling like a stranger in the bedroom that used to be yours.

“Lay down.” Sophia says. “She won’t fall asleep before you do.”

You nod. “Sorry.” You lie down next to your daughter. The familiarity of this scenario brings you both happiness and sadness at the same time.

Your daughter immediately wiggles happily between the two of you.

“Don’t leave.” She mumbles, already half asleep, comforted by the warmth on both sides.

“We won’t.” Sophia whispers.

Within minutes, she was fully out.

You don’t even dare move a muscle, and neither does Sophia.

After a long moment, Sophia breaks the silence.

“Thank you for coming right away.” She whispers. “She was desperate to see you no matter how many times I told her you were fine.”

You turn your head to her side, even if you couldn’t see her.

“I’ll drop anything for her.” You say. “You know that, right?”

Sophia’s heart fills with warmth. You didn’t hesitate for even a second when she called you. You never did when it came to your daughter.

She swallows hard, trying to push down the emotions that were filling her at the moment.

Hope.

“I know.”

And in that moment, Sophia is certain that maybe, just maybe, the step back you two had didn’t have to be the end of your relationship.

Sleep never comes for Sophia.

She lies on her back contemplating the future and overthinking every single thought that is running through her head.

“I can hear you thinking from here.” You whisper, still familiar and in tune with Sophia’s habits.

“I didn’t know you were still awake too.” She says.

“Can’t sleep.” You say. “I think this whole situation made all my sleep go away.”

“Me neither.” Sophia sighs before hesitantly continuing. “I know this is definitely not the right time, but the thought refuses to leave my brain.”

“You can ask me anything, you know that.”

“You came right away. You probably broke some traffic laws so you could be here as soon as you could. You didn’t even hesitate. You just came.” Her voice breaks with emotion. “She calmed down almost as soon as she saw you. You’re so good with her. You always have been.”

You don’t answer, afraid to break such a fragile but heavy moment between you.

“I know we decided to take some time.” She continues, her voice trembling. “And I know we can’t take back all the things we said to each other. But tonight is reminding me of the life we had. Lying here with you with our daughter sleeping between us with a smile on her face even after crying for so long feels like home. It feels like we haven’t drifted away that far from each other.”

So carefully reaches her hand over your daughter to caress your cheek.

“So I need to ask you this. What if…” She pauses. “What if we tried again? We were together for so long. We had a daughter. I refuse to let that go just because we had a bad fight.”

“I don’t want to hurt you again, Sophia. Or let you hurt me the way we did that day.” You start. “And I don’t want to give her false hope.”

“I don’t want to hurt you again either.” Sophia whispers. “But I also can’t keep living wondering what would’ve happened if we tried. We were good together. I know we can be good again if we try.”

“Please don’t say that if you don’t mean it.” You swallow hard. “Do you have any idea how hard it has been for me? I had to move out of our house and leave my daughter? Do you have any idea how long it took me to not get my hopes up anytime you called or anytime I came over to pick her up, hoping that you changed your mind? How many time I had to remind myself that you didn’t want us anymore?”

Sophia closes her eyes as she takes in your words. “I never stopped wanting us. I was scared. We were going down a dark path. I didn’t want her to witness that. Or us to go through that.”

You let out a breath. “I was scared too. I just thought our love and everything we had been through was enough. I don’t know if I can survive losing you twice.”

“I wouldn’t be asking this if I wasn’t sure there’s still something worth fighting for. And I’m certain our love is worth it.” Sophia softly rubs her thumb against your cheek just like she used to do. “So… are you willing to give us another chance? Are you willing to let us move on from everything that happened and let us be the happy family we once were?”

The smell of disinfectant and chemicals was strong when you entered the clinic. You read all the magazines in the waiting room, answered all your important emails, and even watched a bit of a random movie on Netflix on your phone screen. The minutes seemed to pass slowly, the seconds almost dragging by on the analog clock on the office wall.

“Sophia Laforteza's companion!” The receptionist's voice sounded slightly muffled in your ears, forcing you to wake up from what was beginning to be a nap.

Getting up, you grabbed the bag—which your girlfriend had asked you to carry—and walked over to the counter, rubbing your face before giving the attendant a polite smile. “That's me.”

“Sophia is on the second floor, office 3. The procedure was a success, you just need to sign here and go get her.” Quickly reading the paper the woman pushed in front of you, you signed, seeing that it was just a liability waiver. “She may be a little out of it, so don't take what she says too seriously.”

You laughed. “Okay, thank you.”

“You can go up now, Sophia's dentist will be waiting for you.” You gave the woman one last smile.

The elevator took you quickly to the second floor, and office 3 was just a few doors away from you. The private clinic was extremely clean and organized, and you looked around quickly before knocking on the door.

You turned the doorknob when you heard a muffled “Come in.” The doctor was finishing up with her patient while her girlfriend was still lying in the reclining chair typical of a dentist's office.

“Yn, right?!” The doctor asked, raising her eyebrow as if she had just made a very good guess.

“Yes, it's me.” You laughed awkwardly.

“Sophia talks about you a lot.” The woman laughed softly, letting the tension dissipate. "Well, we removed her wisdom teeth, as you know. The procedure was a success, there are few recommendations. Just keep her from talking too much, she can eat some cold things to relieve the pain, and if there is bleeding, I recommend that you come back here so we can see what happened. But don't worry, everything will be fine."

You listened carefully to each of the dentist's recommendations, oblivious to the fact that your girlfriend was making a full video for Weverse right now. You asked about singing, or how long she would be excused from rehearsals and things like that, just gathering enough information so that you had no doubts.

When everything was clear, you thanked the dentist, got up from the chair, and put Sophia's bag on one of your shoulders, mentally preparing yourself to take a very stoned Sophia to the car.

"Look, everyone, this is my strong, beautiful, tall girlfriend. That's right, the one you're all drooling over. Yes, I see all your comments!" Her voice sounded slurred, and for a second you didn't know whether to laugh or convince her to hang up the phone.

“Let's go home? You need to rest a little, Mahal.” Sophia closed her eyes, leaning her head back in the chair and sighing audibly.

“Will you carry me to the car? I can't walk.” Her voice was convincing enough, and maybe she really believed it.

“You can walk, Phia. You just had your wisdom teeth out.” Laughing, you watched your girlfriend pout before her eyes filled with tears.

“Don't you love me anymore?” she asked. Her hand was still raised, the camera still pointed at you.

“What?”

“Yeah! You don't love me anymore! You spend hours at the gym lifting stupid weights, but you can't carry me to the car!” Her choked voice began to worry you, shocked that she was actually about to cry.

“No, I don't. Phia, for God's sake.” Her lips trembled, and the way she looked at you made you feel bad. “ All right. Let's go.”

Sophia's sleepy smile broke out when you lifted her up, settling her in your arms while still trying to balance the bag strap on your shoulder. Seeing the whole scene, the dentist laughed, opening the door for you to pass with your girlfriend. You said goodbye with a strange smile, your cheeks slightly flushed and your ears burning.

Sophia, however, was still recording everything she could with her phone camera. Her arm stretched out as she showed herself in your arms, one of her hands wandering from your neck to your ear.

“Look Eyekons, my strong and beautiful girlfriend is taking me home!” You tried not to laugh, just so as not to encourage the woman any further.

“Mahal, you know you can't post that, right?!” You replied, even though you knew it was futile.

“Of course I can, it's just me and my beautiful girlfriend. The Eyekons will love it.” She said, smiling at the camera before looking at you again. “And I need to make it clear that you're mine! You know, for certain people.”

You laughed. Sophia didn't always behave like this—at least not in public. The needy, clingy Sophia was more familiar to you when you were alone, in the comfort of the home you shared. But now, here was your girlfriend, recording videos proudly declaring that you were hers and hers only.

Putting Sophia in the passenger seat was a difficult task, but driving with her by your side was even harder. Her hands ran through your hair, occasionally moving down to touch some part of your face—as if it were the coolest thing in the world.

“Hey, baby! Don't do that, you're distracting me.” Your voice was soft, as if you didn't want your highly anesthetized girlfriend to misinterpret you.

It didn't work very well.

Tears began to stream down your girlfriend's face, as if you had just told her you wanted to break up with her.

“Don't you love me anymore?” Sophia's pout was visible from miles away, and you quickly shook your head.

“It's not that, Mahal. I'm driving, I need to pay attention to the road.” You tried, as gently as possible.

Sophia shook her head. “But I want you to pay attention to me!”

The Filipina kicked her feet, tears streaking her cheeks and her nose beginning to run. Her words were still slurred—because of the gauze in her mouth—but you knew her well enough to understand what she was saying.

Sighing, you let go of the steering wheel with your right hand and placed it on her thigh. Your thumb ran across her skin as you glanced briefly at your girlfriend for comfort.

Looking at your hand, Sophia glanced sideways at you, wiping away her tears before surrendering and placing her hand on top of yours. The drive home was quiet—just the sound of the music Sophia had chosen playing in the background and a few sighs.

When you finally arrived home, you took care of everything, from taking off Sophia's shoes to taking her upstairs to rest. Hearing all the commotion, you saw Yoonchae quickly appear in your bedroom, laughing and recording the sleepy Sophia who was sprawled across the bed you shared.

“I'm going to put this on Weverse,” the maknae said, laughing as she watched the video she had just recorded.

You looked over her shoulder, the video being basically one big ragebait. Yoonchae poking Sophia and making the Filipina turn over in bed. She babbled incoherent words and called out for you when she started to get really annoyed.

Yoonchae looked at you.

“Good luck with her.”

And then, as if on cue, you heard Sophia's perfect voice running through the house.

“MAHAL! I NEED YOU HERE!”
