We’re playing a show at Moustache Club with our friends in Chastity and Shyy on May 8th. Initially, we had decided that it would be the last Oshawa show for a while but we will be playing a house show the following night. This will give us some time to work on recording new content and play more shows in different cities. We’re looking into getting some neat visuals but I’m not sure if they will be prepared in time for this show.
Kelsey took this one of us at the Atria on May 15th. This was the first time that I got to use my EHX MicroSynth Bass pedal live which was fun. We also played some new ones and because it was a metal bar, decided to do a jazz rendition of an unrecorded track. After our set, I saw a drunk metalhead guy get hit with a pool cue, punched in the face and struck with a pool ball by an elderly woman for ruining their game of pool. After 21 years in Oshawa, that probably makes it into the top 3 bizarre Oshawa moments.
Shelby took this one of me during River Tiber’s show at the Drake Hotel. I believe this was on Boxing Day. Curtis and I got there too late to see Sex Tape open but were there for rivertiber. River Tiber is one of my favourite bands, hands down. I cannot wait for the day that Tommy is no longer referred to as the guy sampled in Drake’s No Tellin’ and gets the credit that his music deserves. This show was only a few weeks after seeing them open for badbadnotgood at the Opera House and I was surprised that there wasn’t a bigger turnout considering that the BBNG show had sold out and this one was free. Sidenote: look how short my hair was!
These photos were taken in the basement of the Smiling Buddha on December 6. This was a special night for me. We got to play with some of my best friends, Costanza (who have been friends since childhood), Shyy (who I used to play with 2/3 of in a band called SETH), and Viva Mars (whose guitarist, Chris, is now in Native Other). This was our first Toronto gig. This was also the night that I realized my girlfriend was more than just a best friend. We started our gig off with a pre-set filled with ignorance. I remember it started with the intro from #THSD Motion Sickness Love album, transitioning into sean-leon’s King of Suburbia. Then Don’t Worry by PartyNextDoor and finally Drake’s 6God, thus the Drake hands in the bottom photo. Posting the bottom picture and tagging Sean in the photo (as the Black Sheep Nirvana shirt) actually resulted in Curtis playing guitar for him at Sneaky Dee’s and MOD Club one night, so shoutout to social media one time. I can say that overall, this was likely my favourite night of 2014 and nothing but positivity has stemmed from it.
Well, here I am. I am not quite sure why, but I decided to rejoin the world of Tumblr. I am not quite sure what my intent behind this decision is. If I decide to actually be somewhat active, I will try to update what’s happening with the band and other influences from my life as the bassist of Native Other. That sounds weird, limiting my personhood to one particular aspect of my life. However, here it goes.
