Sheik waited at the door whilst their invitation was checked, peering ahead into the large hall that was being used for the event. Lots of people in smart suits, talking to each other and drinking champagne. He wondered if there was anyone serving water- he didn’t drink alcohol, and he wasn’t about to start for the sake of one fancy party.
“Mm… We really don’t fit in well, do we?” He let go of Link’s hand as they entered the hall, still just a little on edge. This place was totally unfamiliar. “Well, shall we go and help ourselves to the food?”
Link smiled a bit. “Well if you say it out loud you’ll just give us away.”
He then nodded. At events like this, he seemed to mindlessly overeat. With all the appetizers going around it was easy to take one and then one more. Even if he wasn’t that hungry. As he ate something microwavable every other night (with sandwiches in between) he was hardly one to turn down tasty food. Soon, somehow, after wading through a couple people, he found himself with a small paper plate. It was filled with hummus and cucumber, the latter of which was topped with some mixture that he couldn’t quite identify.
"If my awkwardness hasn't already given us away, Link, I'd be surprised."
Sheik stayed close behind his companion as they walked, not wanting to get lost in the crowd. He picked up a plate of the same food as Link, then slid an arm around the other's waist to lead him away towards a quieter spot. "Rich people in suits can be so intimidating," he murmured. "How long is this event?"
"Why don't you feel comfortable being intimate?" -sheikofthesheikahs
That.. was a loaded question.
Physically or emotionally? The fact he had to make that distinction might be a problem within itself. He was rather comfortable with casual contact with those he was friendly with at one time, albeit a bit shyer if a romantic context was introduced. Somewhere it had started to go downhill. (Somewhere? He knew where.) Eventually he’d grown so used to being alone physical contact became rare, even if it was something he craved.
“I guess.. It’s not discomfort so much as unfamiliarity.”
Now that he thought about it, that really went for both physical and emotional intimacy didn’t it? The only difference was that being emotionally intimate was awkward in a whole new host of ways.
“After my moms passed, there wasn’t anyone to…” The words felt a bit heavy and he quickly spoke to lighten the mood. “Though I was always a bit finicky around strangers; I didn’t much like being casually touched by people I didn’t know!” He gave a small laugh as he crossed his arms close to his chest.

"Don't be afraid of making noises," Sheik assured Link. "It's normal. And I- I want to hear you." He felt the tips of his ears flush red- even vaguely dirty talk was not something he was used to at all.
For a moment, he couldn't imagine what Link intended to do on his knees, but his intention soon became clear. "Link... Link, a-ahh..." Sheik fumbled for something to do with his hands, eventually settling for resting one in Link's hair and the other on the bed. The mouth around him was hot and wet and unbelievably good; it took massive self-control not to thrust his hips up into the heat of it. "Please...more..."
Sheik quickly put Cucco to bed before settling down in his own bedroom. He let out a sigh, then fell silent. With this level of quiet, he could just about hear Link’s breathing. It was strange, having that sound in his apartment again after all this time. But it was comforting, too- it didn’t take long for him to fall asleep.
It was a usual, restless night of sleep for him, waking up at the slightest noise. Sheik found himself on high alert for any sign that Link was upset, or that he was trying to leave. He hated how suspicious he had to be, but after everything else, he wouldn’t put it past Link to sneak out and run off again.
Link slept surprisingly well, at least in comparison to the last few weeks. Maybe even years. Maybe not. At the very least he didn’t wake up several times in the night. He’d slept a couple hours before the sound of neighbors shuffling into their apartment woke him. It wasn’t loud by any means, and most people wouldn’t have been woken by it, but he knew he wouldn’t fall back asleep.
He looked over, the microwave reading 4 AM. He knew Sheik tended to wake early. Link tried to will himself to either get up or go back to sleep, but when he looked back at the clock it was 4:39. Quietly he walked to the kitchen, Time to figure out what he knew how to cook.
Sheik was woken up for the final time that night by the sound of the kitchen door creaking slightly as it opened. He swung his legs out of bed, quietly padding out of the room. Unsurprisingly, Link was gone from the sofa. He could hear Cucco now too, disturbed by someone entering his sleeping place.
"Good morning," he said softly. "You're up very early." Sheik bent to rub Cucco's head, then went to lean against the kitchen counter next to Link. "What are you thinking of cooking?"

"Ah..." Sheik shuddered, the hand not working on Link's pants clenching tight in a vain effort to keep some sort of control over himself. "Link, I- mmh..." He couldn't summon the words to communicate anything, but he knew this wasn't going to last if he couldn't get his hands on Link in return.
He reached up, tugging Link firmly down and kissing him deeply as one hand finally managed to get Link's pants open. Sheik pulled his underwear down out of the way too, curling one hand around Link's arousal. "Feel good...?"

Sheik reached up, fumbling just a little as he moved to undo Link's shirt in turn. He faltered, though, as he felt an uncertain hand pressing against his underwear. A moan fell from his lips, soft and unashamedly a little needy.
"That- that's good," he murmured, as if Link wouldn't be able to tell that already. He rolled his hips up almost without thinking, craving more of Link's touch. The idea penetrated his hazy mind that it would be nice to reciprocate the touch, so Sheik reached out to undo Link's pants, fingers brushing over the slowly growing bulge as he did.

Sheik let himself be led along, although he paused at the bedroom door to steal a kiss and make one small comment. "If you feel uncomfortable at all, tell me. I promise I won't be upset." That was the important thing to say. Now, he just had to enjoy himself.
He closed his eyes, leaning into Link's kiss. Sheik tugged him down so he wasn't standing anymore, encouraging Link to straddle his lap. He threaded his hands through Link's hair, continuing the kiss, enjoying it. He wouldn't make a move to advance things just yet- he would let Link take this at his own pace.

Sheik bit his lip, feeling a little guilty that he had managed to fluster Link so much. “It’s alright,” he assured. “I apologise, I didn’t mean to make you blush like that.” He brushed a hand over Link’s cheek, a fond smile on his lips.
“Just… If you did ever want something like that…” He paused, leaning up to softly kiss Link on the lips. “I’m not opposed to it at all, either. You… I just want to make you happy. Any time you want to take things further, we can.”
“For me I guess.. I’ve never really thought about that sort of thing and I’ve never really had a desire.” He paused thoughtfully. If it made Sheik happy he really didn’t mind either way.
Surprisingly composed he gazed at Sheik. He leaned forward, sitting up on his knees now. “Do you want to try something?”
Somehow, Link's statement didn't surprise Sheik. He'd noticed that Link wasn't a particularly sexual person, although he was obviously by no means innocent. The question that followed a few moments later, however, was possibly the most surprising thing Sheik had heard all year.
"I...wouldn't be against it at all," he admitted a little shyly. He pulled Link down closer to him, kissing him again. "I, um... Where do you want to go? I suppose the bedroom is the best place..." Sheik knew he was blushing, although he couldn't quite figure out WHY. This wasn't the first time he'd done something like this, there had been a couple of admittedly fairly brief romances in his life. Although... It was the first time he'd done this with someone he actually loved.

Sheik greatly appreciated the extra physical contact at a time like this. Link was warm, and familiar, and perfectly suited for cuddling up next to him. “Thank you,” he murmured. “I really do appreciate it.”
Looking fondly down at Link, Sheik couldn’t help but be reminded of the ferocity with which he had been kissed earlier. He bit his lip, then shook his head slightly. If he wanted to ask a question, now seemed a good time to do it. “I have to ask… Have you ever thought about, ah…doing anything more than kissing with me?” He could feel the tips of his ears burning red, embarrassed. “I really don’t mind if you say no, of course. I was just…curious.”
Link looked up, it taking a moment to fully register the meaning of the words. When they did, they hit him like a child riding a bike might hit the ground showing off that they could ride with no hands.
“I-I um, I guess I haven’t! Not that I - not that I’m opposed-” he really wasn’t, “I’m, I really just haven’t thought…” He sat up straighter and turned to look at Sheik before needing to look away again.
“I really haven’t thought about that kind of thing before.” He resisted the urge to gently chuck him on the shoulder and instead fiddled his fingers further.

“You don’t have to apologise. It was hardly your fault.” Sheik reached out, taking the hand that Link had rested on the sofa. He needed the comfort of that, someone warm grounding him to this moment. His old home was a sensitive topic.
“Sometimes, yes. When you- when you left, I considered finding my way back. But that wouldn’t have helped anything, and I’m almost certain that I wouldn’t like what I found if I went back.” He sighed. “You know how brutal people can be. My poor village is likely just a heap of rubble by now…”
Link scooted in closer and wrapped his arm around Sheik’s for closer intimacy. “If you ever need to know, I’m here for you.” He wouldn’t press the issue any further, Sheik would divulge more as he wished.
He leaned back into Sheik and closed his eyes in relaxation. He wasn’t tired, it was just comfortable to be here like this.

“Ah… I remember that event. You played brilliantly.” Sheik made a point of complimenting Link’s performances as often as he could- Link deserved it, and he didn’t seem to have all that much self esteem of his own. Anything Sheik could do to help, he would.
They walked in a companionable silence after that, until the building where the party was being held came into sight. “You brought your invitation, right?”
He nodded. Although he was sure there was a list of names and he would be easily enough recognized, it was an upscale enough event that they liked to go through the performance of paper invitations. When they reached the door he pulled it out of his coat pocket. It was neatly folded in one half, the way he’d received it in the mail. He could at least pretend to be a part of the dignified, higher class.
“It seems we’re in, now we just have to pretend we know the difference between an appetizer and hors d’oeurves.

“What ABOUT me?” Sheik leaned against the back of the sofa, casting his eyes to the ceiling as he pondered over what facts about his past he could talk about with Link.
“You’ve no doubt noticed that I have none of your reservations about affection. Back home, people were a lot less reserved with each other. It was a small town, everyone was friends. Moving to this country was one hell of a change. Quite honestly, I still haven’t got used to it. Although… I am glad I moved when I did.” Sheik fell silent for a moment, sighing. Barely a month after he’d moved here with his aunt, war had broken out in the country. “It’s near impossible to get any news about my home town these days.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.” He continued to gaze at Sheik, taking in every movement and facial gesture as though he were memorizing this encounter. It was an unintentional, methodical assessment of the situation, much how he approached all situations now. A habit he may never shake, or simply a new view on the world.
“Do you ever want to go back?” Whether to visit or stay. Link would let no judgement slip either way.

Sheik looked up, surprised. Declarations of love from Link were about as rare as the goddesses themselves descending from on high. And about ten times as special- to him, at least. “No! No, you didn’t ruin the moment at all, I promise. I was just-”
He was cut off, then, by the kiss. Sheik leaned into it with a smile, threading his fingers happily through Link’s hair. This was certainly a good way to relieve the dark cloud that came with talking about his family. “I love you too,” he finally managed. “I know life hasn’t been easy on either of us, but you…you’ve been through so much. Please, don’t be afraid of doing or saying anything you want to me.”
Link waved his hand. “I feel as though we’re always talking about me.” He wanted to hear more about Sheik, and not only as a distraction from himself. He leaned an elbow against the cough and rested his cheek on one hand.
“What about you?” It wasn’t a very specific question, and Link wasn’t sure he was asking anything in particular. He just wanted to know anything he didn’t already about Sheik. Whatever the other was willing to open up to him.
"What ABOUT me?" Sheik leaned against the back of the sofa, casting his eyes to the ceiling as he pondered over what facts about his past he could talk about with Link.

With one last glance back at Cucco, Sheik headed forwards out of the apartment. Luckily, the party was within walking distance- no need for the expense of hiring a taxi. It was a quiet evening, too, none of the usual yelling and shouting that went on in this area.
“So… What exactly are you winning this award for?” Sheik looked over at the shorter man, curious. “I know you’re a genius piano player, but a good writer, too? You never told me that…”
“Just a short piece I composed for an event.” The other award winners were a journalist, book writer, and reporter if he remembered correctly. “The one I played at the children’s hospital.” He was fairly sure Sheik had been at that one, he made a point of coming to as many as possible. It wasn’t even that hard as he wasn’t attending that many due to his night job. He put a finger to his lip thoughtfully.
“I guess it never really came up.”
"Ah... I remember that event. You played brilliantly." Sheik made a point of complimenting Link's performances as often as he could- Link deserved it, and he didn't seem to have all that much self esteem of his own. Anything Sheik could do to help, he would.

“I wanted to come so that you won’t be standing there awkwardly alone. Everyone else has probably brought a date, too.” Sheik fiddled with the tie himself, loosening it just a little. These stiff formal clothes were making him feel antsy. “Cucco’s in bed for the evening, he has food and water, everything’s locked…”
He trailed off, taking a deep breath. No need to fret- it was just a party. “Come on, then.” He extended an arm to Link, a smile coming to his lips despite himself. “Let’s go and stand in a corner together, shall we?”
“Probably,” he hummed. Award winners were probably a ticket item among those looking for a good partner. It usually meant that person was an upstanding citizen and not a criminal. Ha.
Link wrapped his arm around Sheik’s. “Yes, let’s.” He’d heard there would be garlic and pesto bites (really just glorified pizza pockets if you asked him) but that would be the highlight of his night. Conversation probably would be stuffy at best as they were likely going to be the youngest there unless any attendees had older children.

“I’ll probably end up standing uncomfortably in the corner with a plate of food and hope that nobody talks to me.” (sheikofthesheikahs)
“You’re the one who wanted to come, though I’m not sure why.” Link helped fix the tie around Sheik’s neck. These parties were definitely a bit stuffy, but it would be stranger for Link not to show up. It was a party to congratulate the award winners. He hadn’t entered any contests or even tried for anything, but somehow he’d been awarded some sort of small scale Pulitzer Prize.
“At least I’ll have someone to join me in the corner.”
"I wanted to come so that you won't be standing there awkwardly alone. Everyone else has probably brought a date, too." Sheik fiddled with the tie himself, loosening it just a little. “If you’re sure.” Sheik tried not to look disappointed. Link would open up with time- or at least Sheik hoped he would. “You don’t have to make me breakfast, Link, it’s alright. I promise. Sleep in as long as you want.”
He stood up, bending down to hook his fingers underneath Cucco’s collar. “I’m sure you don’t want to be woken up by a dog drooling on you, so I’ll send him to bed in the kitchen. Sleep well, Link…” Sheik paused, considering bending down to kiss him on the cheek, and decided against it. “I’ll see you in the morning…”
Link nodded, murmuring something that he believed sounded like ‘you too,’ and curled onto his side with his back to the couch. He was exhausted and sleep couldn’t come soon enough. He had been accustomed to nightmares since a young age, so even when they plagued him tonight (and he knew they would) he would not cry out.
Sheik quickly put Cucco to bed before settling down in his own bedroom. He let out a sigh, then fell silent. With this level of quiet, he could just about hear Link's breathing. It was strange, having that sound in his apartment again after all this time. But it was comforting, too- it didn't take long for him to fall asleep.
