to be so lonely / red creek shenanigans.
lvurentb ,
By no means is Laurent drunk nor does he intend on becoming highly intoxicated within the next few hours. Getting under Shelby’s skin for the sake of receiving a reaction does brighten his spirit, however. It’s been years since they first interacted; he knows the ropes and which one to pull, finding their interactions amusing just by doing so. “Yet you chose to come to one that’s dedicated to the hunters of Red Creek. Before you even go there, I definitely get a fucking pass —- I’m a shit witch. You belong to a family that’s recognized for their magical capabilities.” Placing his bottle down, he shifted himself forward to whisper in her ear. “You’re forgetting something, sweetheart. I am your company. Not just for tonight, but probably the morning after, as well. I do mean it when I say you look ravishing,” he proclaimed, finding himself back in his previous position before chuckling. “I’m just fucking with you. S’whatever. Are you hungry? Let’s hope you’re the only Fontaine here for the night; we all know Wren and the rest can’t stomach me.”
“Maybe I’m on a suicide mission, you don’t know me,” she chided restlessly, syllables mocking Laurent at every turn. Many hunters resided on the two opposite ends of the spectrum — woefully devoted to the Fontaine’s and their place in the hierarchy or disgusted by the very elements which oozed from stained fingertips. She could only hope her frequent absences from Red Creek allowed for some privacy, a silent request which Laurent had since voided. “I - heh, okay, back it up,” waxen features stumbled into a more rufescent territory, whether it came from a sense of shame to hear Laurent even joke about such salacious grounds, face contorted in surprise, “Don’t do that. Ever again, I mean it — I’m truly sick now.” A hand smacked down twice on the counter in recovery, hailing for a round of tequila shots as if it would surpass her current state of vertigo. “Let me drink a little before you start talking about my family and food; though you should know I’m always hungry.”

He’s startled and a little surprised at Shelby being in Archer’s Point, abandoning his current conversation to sneak himself in front her all while choosing to taunt her appearance. “The ravishing Fontaine heroic leader of magic, and holds the award for being the greatest asshole in Red Creek. All of a sudden I’m feeling reborn; I could have sworn you never liked this sort of scenery,” Laurent grumbled, inching slightly closer as he brought the head of the beer closer against his lips. “Let me guess, huh? Something happened at home.. you got mad, real mad, and needed an outlet. Sounds like a day within your clique. You being here, aha it’s truly quite the sight. Just don’t be a fucking nuisance.”
A pause was warranted as Laurent all but infiltrated her space, drink perched precariously before her lips. “All the other bars closed early,” she offered in plain retort, placing the drink down as if to prepare herself for a litany of comebacks to toss at Laurent. The other witch wasn’t entirely wrong when it came to such scenery, Archer’s Point hardly a savory location on her list of bars to hit, shrugging all the same, “Maybe I was hoping to pick up some company, a tactic you’re sorely ruining, “Shelby half teased, nose still scrunched at the cheesy extempore which had rolled off his lips.

❛ someone’s responsive tonight ; i also didn’t happen to stutter . ❜ to go back and forth with the fontaine would be rather draining and quite frankly , a waste of his time . his blue hues watched her warily as the alcoholic beverage positioned to stay put between his legs , using the towel to dry himself down in a fastened pace to put back on his buttoned blouse . ❛ —- it’s not like i’d get too affected by consuming that much alcohol since i’ve been stuck as a twenty-two year old for the past fifteen years , ❜ alexander replied casually , murmuring , ❛ jesteś denerwujący. ❜ words slid through his teeth as eyes rolled back . ❛ all jokes aside , why the fuck are you out here ? ❜
“Dude, I got a comeback for everything, don’t act as if I’m suddenly talkative just tonight,” a grin pricked at winsome countenance, faltering only at syllables which escaped him. Stuck at twenty-two no matter how many she met who were tormented with such supernatural afflictions it still caused Shelby to pause; said world still unsurmountable to her.
“Thanks for the piece of your life story,” extempore gauchely tumbled from her lips, still slightly stumped when faced with someone who would surely live forever - a Fontaine’s legacy bolstering the idea that immortality was in and of itself a sin. In spite of said beliefs such idea made her vertiginous not even on ethics alone but the lachrymose perspective of having all your friends perish while you lived on.
Face contorted under confusion at the unrecognizable language, shrugging plainly as she moved on, “Late hours; I take a lot of graveyard shifts, is it that hard to believe others are night owls with you?” Brows were raised in expectant finality.

“You pointing that out is beginning to get under my skin.” The more her mouth ran, the more the blood within his skin began to boil, wishing her comments were kept to herself most of the time. It’s strongly hypocritical for him to feel such annoyance given Laurent happened to be no better, often fueling the fire by his snarky insults. In his personal opinion, him running his mouth back is fair game Shelby happened to be the type of person who will bark until satisfactory happens on her end. Granted, the punch was deserved, but Laurent partially blamed her for deliberately being a nuisance. “You and I are both shit at magic, so we damn sure know any use of that to make our skin look better might end up with us being dead; y’know, error and all. I personally think I’m a little bit better when it comes to my own use of magic, though,” he coughed under his breath. Allow Shelby to soak up whether or not that’s a compliment .. as if he cared. Consider the presence of his children a perfect form of bribery. As with Shelby’s other siblings, Laurent perfected the craft of not facing rejection when his children are around. It thrilled him when people felt an obvious discomfort at the physical form of children and their neediness. In this case, the elder witch felt a great amount of success .. success that led him to smirk mischievously. “You’re damn right about absolutely loving nothing more. You didn’t expect me to leave you hanging, right? After all, I heard from a bird you’re spectacular with kids. You keep up the behavior and we might have to get b aha.” It’s probably best for him to stop there, pinching the bridge of his nose. “It’s a joke. Y’know, not meant to be serious. Erm, never mind. Anyway, let’s be real, Red Creek is notorious for a lot of things. You get the short end of the stick dealing with everyone else’s problems.” And truthfully, Laurent felt bad about that. People dropped dead liked flies on a consistent basis, even he wouldn’t want to deal with that. “Don’t be shy, though. Take her hand .. come on; I’m sure we’ll all have a blast today. Just don’t annoy me, but I’m sure that’s asking for too much.”
“That’s always been the motive,” she sniggered, a raise of her brows in repetition as if to get such nuisance of a point across. Her occupation was always sought in the medical field to calm people down and yet Laurent was never placed on such list, her aspirations with him the opposite ever since his dalliance with Savannah. No matter, his commentary about her magic always inspired an eye roll from waxen countenance, scoffing under the reminder that no proper comeback could change the verity of his words. Still - the Fontaine clutched to her ability of surprising him when moments suited it most, offering a more blasé shrug in finality, “I ran away from magic my whole life, there’s always no wonder that I’m terrible at it. You— on the other hand, have no excuse, you just don’t.” A grin split presented itself, wickedly so, in spite of the nervous action that was sparked from his final statement; a hand reaching out for the child as if it would near bite her. “Mm, well, most of my patients tend to pass away or flee before actually making strides in treatment,” a bitter chord of a laugh echoed through her, the genuine grief that was etched into her tone apparent no matter how she tried to hide it. All the same, even with a day with Laurent and his children staring her in the face, she remained ever sanguine, “Well, we deserve a bit of fun.”

“If this is about the coven’s vote I don’t know what to tell you. I’m just as surprised as you are, but it seems the majority wants you in charge. Apparently Savannah’s too emotional and would get us all killed trying to save some poor soul. I’m not emotional enough and I’m too willing to accept innocent humans as collateral damage. We all have our flaws. Your – magical shortcomings are easier to overlook than mine and Savannah’s. They’ve made up their mind, there’s no changing it. Believe me, I’ve tried.”
“We all know I’m not cut out for this,” she scoffed away any bilious impression, their lineage of malediction surely taking a blow when it came to her. “I don’t have many documented shortcomings because I don’t do it,” she rallied out, stentorian opinion imbued with an off key laugh, in genuine disbelief at the tally of votes in her favor.

“I run away when I get slapped,” he playfully retorted, though still feeling the stinging sensation sizzling through his cheeks from that harsh incident. “That hurt, by the way.” Granted their first of many altercations ended up being memorable, however that specific one.. it simply rang a different bell, teaching him a valuable lesson on certain comments should get kept to himself. Despite that, he found her presence tolerable at times —- it was nice having someone that had magic within their blood as a friend, a thought he would not dare share with her. Features formed a scowl at distaste in her wanting to be buried within the grounds of Red Creek, finding the town too controversial for his liking to let his spirit linger after death. “I’m thrilled to see nothing has changed with your odd liking for cheese fries. ‘Least that’s one thing we have in common outside of necromancy. Continue eating them, it keeps the wrinkles away. Given that you’re here,” the elder responded, his blue hues shifted to his daughter to intertwine her fingers with Shelby’s own, groaning at the upcoming offer he began to extend out of pure kindness. “It’s hot. We’re hungry. They know you —- I can’t exactly leave without inviting you to eat hot wings, chicken nuggets, and french fries with us.” A curious brow lifted at the look of dismay from his daughter, forgetting to add one last thing. “Oh, right. Orange.. soda. Our new obsession. And I wouldn’t say I was hiding with them. Consider my disappearance booked and busy, or whatever these kids like to say nowadays. You’re doing it again. Y’know, being annoying.” A trait Shelby happened to excel in, prompting slight agitation. “You’re a therapist, right? How’s that going?”
“That’s the point,” she near sing-songed in return when he spoke of the essence of pain that came with such altercations, a more chesire grin seeping into the mien. Shelby was not one to revel in the trauma of others, especially under the guise that would go against her very career, but to say she wasn’t feeling even a sliver of accomplishment when it had come to slapping his smug expression from his lips.... well — she also wasn’t much of a liar. “Oh, you know, cheese fries, bacon cheeseburgers, it keeps me youthful. I think that’s the true secret to immortality, not magic and the like, just loads of greasy carbs.” A tease at her own gluttonous ways, pausing at the outright invitation that had slipped past Laurent’s lips; pausing as her expression half contorted to a more flummoxed bout. “I, oh,” a gauche chuckled slipped by, peering down at his daughter’s near anxious eyes when it came to the prospect of her joining them, a more quaint smile jumping onto her lips, ever the actress for his children. “Well I’d absolutely love nothing more.” Timbre of her voice took on a more jesting tone, despite the inquietude that ran rampant in her chest; their track record not exactly swell. “They should create an award, just for me, on account of that,” Shelby snickered near vainly, shrugging at the mention of her less than savory occupation, “Red Creek is notorious for bringing a revolving door of patients,” she nodded in conclusion, absentmindedly rolling her fingertips upon her palms. Death was a frequent turmoil in their town, bringing endless souls wandering into her office for means of assistance to what plagued them.
superiorchase ;
“You remember that kid witch who blew up?” It may have been too blunt, but that was his style. At least he had the decency to make a sign of the cross over his body after saying it. He’d never speak ill of the dead. “Stupid question, of course you do. Well, her aunt’s been poking around the police station looking for answers. I don’t know which moron sent her my way, but I come up with shit to placate the media, I don’t do one on one’s. I convinced her she’s still in mourning and gave her your card. Think you can comfort her enough to get her out of my face?”
The memory returned to her vividly, a sinister rendition that plagued even the faintest of nightmares, pausing at the mention of said child. A gravelly amalgam of a scoff and chuckle left her, imbued with resonating inquietude, “Of course I remember.” Nolan offers a rejoinder of his own before syllables left her lips, shrugging in a disjointed reply of her own, “Grief is..... tricky, I don’t think any consolation is enough to have her stop sniffing around the station, Nol’.”
axkowvlski ;
Alexander’s bound to touch base with people he does and does not like, Fontaine’s included —- a thought he found despicable. As an alcoholic bottle laid securely in one hand, his other tugged on the towel wrapped around his shoulder, groaning at the feeling of his wet, slicked back hair drenching the concrete the more he made several steps to return home, scowling at the sight of the original. “Is there a problem? It’s almost twelve at night, I’m certain it’s past your bedtime. And the last I heard, it’s disrespectful to be out here without some form of greeting.”
“My bedtime?” A scoff fell from waxen lips, a fragment of amusement lined in the curvature of cheeks, nodding at the bottle perched between slick fingertips, “Think you’ve had enough of that... or are you fancying becoming apart of Red Creek’s very own stretch of alcoholics?” She was off the clock and when that tended to happen her mouth often betrayed her, insincerity her crux.

“Fu —- dge. Fudge,” he spewed once more to prevent profanity from filling the ears of his children, slightly rocking the hand of the eldest while his toddler sat upon the top of his shoulders, ruffling with his hair. His conversations with Shelby Fontaine happened to always have an abnormal ending; to be in her presence although not done intentionally left the witch halting his footsteps to catch a cold sweat. With a three and six year old in his presence, his behavior had to stay in tact, forcing an unconvincing smile in an attempt to be benevolent. “If it isn’t the devil herself.” Words murmured between gritted teeth, giving a small squeeze in his occupied hand as a stamp of approval that it’s alright for his child to lend a greeting. “Shelby,” Laurent hissed. “We just came from summer camp, so uh —- hi.” It’s something about actually conversing with others in the presence of his children that made him a bit uncomfortable, keeping their identities private as much as possible since the passing of his wife. “Have you been drinking enough water lately? Changed your skincare routine? Your skin is glistening. Not a wrinkle in sight — must be the sun screen.”
“Mm, well I’ve never been one to run away when the going got tough,” alluding to many altercations that were years passed, a true itinerary of their bickering relation when it came to magic and the town of Red Creek. “Born, bred and will surely die in Red Creek,” Shelby summarized, nose scrunched at the mere thought; the statement a guarantee when born unto such legacy. “It’s the late nights at work and the cheese fries; something about melted cheddar just keeps a youthful glow,” timbre of her voice resonated in a teasingly flippant nature, smile wide as if under the guise of disbelief. Shelby had crossed paths with Laurent’s children briefly, an off kilter movie night transpiring the moment he brought his children into her home; something that, back then, was a clear means to unsettle the Fontaine — her aversion to children no secret. “Don’t tell me you’ve been hiding away with your children at summer camp this whole time,” syllables prompting him to admit any excursions away from Red Creek, Shelby’s persistent need to push buttons more than obvious.

“Maybe,” he pointed a finger at her, “you’ll levitate the toaster.” Arms spread out in their natural wide span. “Huh? Sounds like a good idea to me. Just a little sugar to get us going,sugar.” The younger Fontaine winked. “It’s an unfinished basement just waiting to be blown up. What do we keep down there, anyway, the washer? Ethan’s marble collection? Stuff that’s barely worth a penny.” Exaggeration may as well have been his middle name. “Alright, you’re no mystery Shelby Mariah Fontaine.” He put special emphasis on her middle name, leaning forward into her personal space. “To me you’re just Shelby. Good old Shelbs, coming home from her thirty six hour shift at the hospital, then ghosting me for three days while she recuperates. Good old Shelby. And you’re not like Savannah, maybe that’s why I’m both of your favorites, huh?” Or why they were constantly on different wavelengths.
“Oh, yes, in my wildest dreams, Wrenny,” her tone migrated to more of a falsetto timbre, evident of her mocking and near apathetic nature when it came to such magic. “Stop, you’re acting like a cool distant cousin right now and less like my goofy younger brother,” Shelby made a face out of jest, a laugh falling from her at the recollection of Ethan’s younger quirks. “Hey, do you think he still fucks with his collection from time to time? Bet if we cruise on Let Go he’s got them up there for a dime a dozen. Or maybe he’s more of an Ebay fella; he’s always more old fashioned than I can keep up with.” She rolled her eyes in a childish manner, the remark of her middle name repugnant at best, “Yeah, yeah, well, I like my sleep what can I say,” arm was haphazardly slung over her younger brother once more, almost dramatically dragging him down for such emphasis. “What’s that saying --- he’s not heavy, he’s my brother? Just flip that for your sisters. Sorry, we suck but we try our best, you dork.” Arm slipped back up to offer a make shift noogie, a childish trait she never let go of in sake of peeving Wren when necessary.
when all is said and done, you’ll believe…
wrxn ;
“Never, it’s your trademark. But we really should make them. Maybe it’ll get the magic flowing—- maple syrup? That always does it for me.” It was sad how far he’d go to bring a smile to her face. One that meant she was truly happy instead of putting on a surface level emotion for the world to take as they may. “There’s no reason for you to put this much pressure on yourself, you… you sound like Savannah. We both know how screwball she gets, so… please.” An arm snaked around her shoulders, pulling her up and away from the table full of witchy woo supplies. “It’ll be fine for twenty minutes while we go and make, can you guess? Pancakes, yes,ding ding ding! Winner, winner, winner.” His voice boomed in the room, bouncing off the walls and adding to the effect.
“Oh yes, get me on the sugar high of a century and we’ll see what’ll happen next --- maybe I’ll blow up the kitchen this time? Or dare we start from the basement; really destroy the foundation from the get go,” a pitiful bout of jokes that spoke volumes for her insecurity of magic. She was the eldest, meant to be the support system to lift her siblings up in this grave time of need where they no longer had doting parents to lean on; and yet she failed, on every level imaginable. “Well, dear brother, you’re only just beginning to see the inner workings of my mind; I’d beat Savannah in a crazy competition any day,” a further sense of self deprecating mirth, brows wiggling as if it could add to her stretch of humor. She near resisted the pull away from all the items she had near meticulously spread out, under the impression that the time to get a grip on her magic was ever fleeting.
