Sometimes writing is like having an enormous lake in your head, and you want to get it out of your head and into a proper place for a lake so other people can come and go swimming and ride jet skis and stuff, except all you have to move the lake is a teaspoon. So you’re just sitting there frantically flinging water out of the lake with your teaspoon and telling people, “Guys, this lake is going to be so cool when it’s done,” but it will never be done. There is so much lake.
I didn’t really expect this to be relatable, but if you wanna reblog, go wild.

why is it humans not humen
bc “human” comes from a latin root (homo > humanus > humaine > human) and “man” (and thus “men”) comes from a germanic root (mann > man)
so you get humans, not humen, since “humans” doesn’t play by germanic rules
look at that i asked a question and i got an answer THANKS
English isn’t a language, it’s three languages stacked on top of each other wearing a trenchcoat.
it’s so frustrating when your fic ideas are bigger than your writing abilities
even worse when your laziness is bigger than both your ideas and writing abilities

hurt meme.
“ i got you. it’s gonna be okay, you’re going to be okay.”
“i feel like everyone’s miles away from me.”
“my mind is a dark place. you don’t want to be there.”
“i know this hurts, but you have to stay awake.”
“don’t close your eyes, please don’t close your eyes!”
“i just want to be numb, i don’t want to feel anything.”
“please don’t do this, don’t act like you care.”
“you don’t care, nobody cares, just leave.”
“you’re my friend, of course i fucking care.”
“i can’t give up on you, so please don’t give up on yourself.”
“i love you so much, i forgot what hating myself felt like.”
“i fucked up, why do you not care?”
“i can’t walk, just go on without me.”
“you have broken ribs, take it easy.”
“i have no idea how to do cpr.”
“whose blood is that?”
“apply pressure to the wound, don’t let go.”
“don’t you dare fucking let go!”
“what the hell happened to you?”
“are they dead? did you kill them?”
“do you know what you’ve done?”
“you’re either with me or against me.”
“who the hell did this to you?”
“are you alright? you hit your head pretty hard…”
“i can’t see!! what’s happening to me?”
“when was the last time you ate?”
“what do you mean you’re fine? you are not fine!”
“i’m fine, it’s just a flesh wound, i’ll be okay.”
“for how long? how long were you bottling this up?“
“there’s so much blood, you won’t last.”
“are you… throwing up in there?”
“why aren’t you eating?”
“just breathe… you’re okay, i promise, just breathe.”
“i can’t breathe, i can’t –”
“i woke up, & you were gone.”
“just tell me something, was it really worth it?”
“it’s okay to hurt & breakdown. you don’t have to be strong all the time.”
This is useful.
commission etiquette
a lot of people have been commissioning my friends lately and…i havent seen the best manners when they were doing so. i think it was from a lack of knowledge rather than from an intentional rudeness, so im here to list some things to keep in mind when youre gonna commission someone.
give them info. do not be vague about it. if you send someone a few sentences, theyre just going to be confused about what you want. if its an OC, have ref pics. PLEASE be descriptive. being vague isnt really giving the artist “more freedom”, its just confusing them. we like for you to be very descriptive and specific to ensure you get what you had in mind. dont be afraid to ask.
if an artist says they wont draw something, dont ask them to do it anyway. youre not special. oftentimes they have “i wont draw” because theyre not very good with those things, or it just goes against their personal beliefs on what is right.
dont tell people you drew the commission. thats just shitty. i dont care if you paid for it.
TIP THE ARTIST. dear god, tip them. how much? 20-35%. a few cents will make them think youre joking. it works like a restaurant. you wouldnt go into one and not tip, right? and if your argument is “well they never included the tip in the prices”, restaurants dont either. you still need to have some extra cash to tip. and if you cant tip…dont buy it, or buy a less expensive piece. artists need tips. a lot of them undersell themselves.
dont give the artist a time limit. someone literally set a TIMER for me once. (30 minutes.) if they dont get it done right away, they probably had others lined up!
you get what you paid for. if the artist is doing VERY cheap commissions, dont be surprised when theyre not HD drawings. theyre not going to spend as much effort on a $3 commission as they would a $100 commission. thats unfair to the person who paid more. you pay less, you get less.
dont get angry when artists draw things for free for their friends, but not for you. dont befriend artists to get a free drawing, either.
you pay the artist first, then they draw for you. i know you might be scared they wont follow through, but if so, you can easily call them out and sue them if you must. if an artist works their ass off on a piece, theres nothing to stop you from running off with it and saving it. and they cant really get that back or get you in legal trouble for that. when you purchase something in a store, the cashier hands you your items AFTER you paid. thats how it works.
be nice to artists. theres a person behind the screen.
Y boobs are big pet peeve of mine, it’s 2017 and I still see them everywhere so I made a lil’ guide on natural looking boobies. Boobs are amazing, give them love.
Since I compiled them for the print version, here are all the appearance reference images from the survey. Feel free to reblog and/or save for your own reference. The skin tone and muscularity charts are the only ones that I made myself, the rest I got from Google.
STOP WHITEWASHING DARK-SKINNED CHARACTERS!!!!
IF SOMEONE’S SKIN COLOR IS
THEN
SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN EVER
Well, there is a matter of shading and such, as well as what filter you put on your drawing and what the lighting is like in the scene you’re drawing, what kinda mood you’re trying to get across, if you’re using a restrained palette.
Here to illustrate my point is Connie Maheswaran from Steven Universe
Lightening a skin tone in art is more complicated than just writing down the hex code for what a person’s skin color should be. I’d imagine a lot of artists don’t even realize they’re doing it when they lighten a skin tone past what is acceptable. A good rule of thumb (that I need to follow more) is not to eyeball a character’s skin tone but make a starter palette than adjust it to the lighting as necessary. If you’re doing a piece that’s artsy fartsy, or has a three color palette or something, make sure the contrast of the skin is still intact. Dark skin shouldn’t pop as much as light skin against dark hair.
Also, while this is a lesson that applies just as much to amateur artists as it does to professional artists, remember, a lot of artists on Tumblr are still new and learning. Depictions of characters that might seem fatphobic or racist at a first glance might be the result of someone still struggling to break past fatphobic or racist caricatures in their art that were picked up from other mainstream sources.
We’re all here to improve and get better, so let’s do our best to help each other make art that is inclusive and celebrates diversity.
Thank you for giving this post some semblance of logic. I hate to see artists who make these completely unintentional mistakes get slammed for trying to do lighting and palette colors correctly. Everyone has to start somewhere. Please consider your words before you go off on someone.
A supervillain kidnaps a civilian and keeps them hostage, taunting on live television for the superhero to come find them. Unbeknownst to the villain, the kidnapped civilian is the superhero.
Ohhh, Oh gosh. This gives me such ideas!
But anyways, Fanfic/Fan!Verses::
BNHA!Verse: Sickly!Toshi/AllMight ends up getting captured (whoops), and gets called out, except... he was the one kidnapped???? (lol) Whether they know it’s him or not, it’ll be amusing either way.
KHR!Verse: Poor, unassuming Tsuna.... gets kidnapped (of course), and finds out he’s being held by some idiot because....they want to call him out??? What? (Tsuna’s luck, considering Vongola Luck, I wouldn’t be surprised....Definitely in for remedial training with Reborn though, whoops~)
OP!OC!Verse: @thebestbro , imagine...our boys. With this prompt. ufufufufu...? Nico or even the Ninja’s, seriously. Think about it. 8D
KHR/BHNA!OC!Verse: This wouldn’t quite fit either, but, but Kyo. Imagine. Yuri, short, baby borderline shota Yuri....gets kidnapped. Only instead of supervillians, it’s someone who wants to call the head of the M.C. out, only...whoops? (It’d be bad for publicity if he didn’t do anything anyway. Maybe someone has a grudge against Damiano and is taking out on him. Or better yet, imagine YORU gets kidnapped :D)
KHR!OC!Verse: Ethan. That’s all I’m going to say, Kyo. Just... Ethan. (Imagine, Jo and/or Ethan ended up being ‘known’ -though not by face- around the area, and they just....one of them gets kidnapped, to try to draw these mysterious people getting in the Yakuza’s way out, but...whoops? XD)
OP!Verse: Luffy, Ace, Sabo. For anyone that knows anything about ASL, that should really be enough said. XD
HP!Verse: Not anime, but still. Harry’s luck is weird enough, I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened to him.
OPM!Verse: Saitama. Kidnapping. This has the potential to go oh so horribly brilliantly or oh so terribly bad. In fact, Genos and the other heroes are more likely to cause chaos in this case than him??? XD;;;;
HnA (Hajimete no Aku)!Verse: This series...is just so perfect. Also, Kyoko’s not exactly a hero, but she’s also one bad-ass civie who can beat both the ‘heros’ and the ‘bad guys’. ‘nuff said.
Original Story Universes:
1. Vlad is the probably one of the luckiest/unluckiest people on the planet. In a world of villains and superheroes, this poor, emo-looking guy.....wants to be a villain? But nothing ever goes right for him, and...whoops. One day, he ends up accidentally getting registered as a hero, because no matter what he does, he always. somehow. ends up saving people. Or just helping. But since he never advertises his face, some villain ends up thinking he’s a superhero and takes him, a random civilian looking guy, to get back at the hero whose face he doesn’t know ‘accidentally’ ended up ruining some operation or plan or other.
2. (No Names decided yet, sooo:) Black kidnaps White only to find out that the one he kidnapped...was the one he was trying to call out? What? Well....well then... Meanwhile, Silver (White’s brother), is searching high and low for his sibling, and probably ends up triggering a domino effect of chaos, because....well, he ends up getting kidnapped at some point too, and it’s just total chaos and confusion, and no one has any idea what’s going on anymore. (Tsundere Silver ends up finding someone, though he claims he hates the guy’s guts. Whoops.) Meanwhile, Black and White (or Purple, she ends up taking an alias at some point and joining Black, because this entire world is convoluted and the so-called ‘bad guys’ are actually the good guys, and vice versa. It’s just...not very well known, because the so-called ‘good guys’ are really good with propaganda and advertising themselves as the good guys.)
do you ever just
“no that’s not dramatic and cheesy enough”
“getting warmer”
“t HERE IT IS”
i love this but i dont know how to do this
hoW
For those wondering about HOW to do this, here’s a short explanation according to me:
Drawing A to Drawing B: -the most obvious change is the exaggeration of the line of motion in the character.
In Drawing B the line of motion is much more pronounced, creating more drama and movement to the whole composition
-The arms are open wider, showing more confidence and exuberance in the character, exaggerating their emotions so they can be more clearly read without having to look to the face for emotional cues.
-the legs are wider apart, adding to the aforementioned confidence but also giving the character a solid foundation, visually speaking.
-The head is tilted back and overlapped by the chest, adding a touch of dynamic perspective to the drawing.
Drawing B to Drawing C: -Most obvious change is to zoom in on the character. Character framing is just as important as what the character is doing. Zooming in can help infensify emotions. this shot is ALL about this character and what they’re feeling. -Because of the zooming in, the arms/hands would have gotten lost, so instead of making the canvas wider, the artist has elected to rotate the character slightly, bringing a dynamic angle to things and more intensity to the close shot. -While the character is more upright in this shot compared to Drawing B, in Drawing C the chest still slightly overlaps the neck, preserving the feeling of being slightly below the character (putting them in a position of power relative to the viewer), which helps maintain confidence and power in the character. -the chest is exaggerated to carry the majority of the body’s line of action so even though you cannot see the legs, our brains are able to fill in the gap and envision that line of action. -The cropping/framing of the character allows for a more interesting composition/negative shapes created by the positive (character) on the negative (background), creating more visual interest as well as a circular motion to the composition through the arms, across the face to the negative space for the eyes to rest in before dropping to the hand in the background and back through the composition again.
Life goal: To write a fanfiction so good that everyone who joins the fandom newly is told that they simply HAVE to read this particular fanfic.
but like who started the idea that fanfiction writers are somehow bothered by enthusiasm for their work???? cause i see posts all the time like “do writers really want to talk with us about their fics? Do writers really want long comments? I dont want to bother them” and i just think its absolutely ridiculous????
ofc i want to talk to you about it, and would love to hear you go on about it. i took time out of my real life to write this stuff down so we could all share these characters!!! the idea that you’re bothering a fanfiction writer, a fellow nerd, is absolutely crazy
