‘Darshan’ of Raghu Rai
What would happen if a departed person were to attend his own remembrance meeting – let’s think hypothetically if they really did – would they be in sheer awe and surprise to see people congregating in such large numbers to remember and celebrate the person? I guess they would but not Raghu Rai, who was celebrated and reminisced with such fondness by his family, friends, colleagues, and students at Chinmaya Mission in Delhi yesterday. Raghu Rai always knew the kind of adulation and respect he commanded from people within his fraternity and beyond. He had the ‘gift of seeing,’ and he could always see the love and adoration people around him had for him. He has now risen much higher to have a better, top-down panoramic view of the world that looks up to him, now and forever, seeking light and guidance from the genius of photography who paralleled ‘seeing through the viewfinder’ with ‘darshan’.
Apart from the other notable persons, not to be missed were Rini Simon, who anchored the event with her mellifluous and ever-so-familiar voice, and the legendary author William Dalrymple.
