This scene is one of the many examples that show the blatant understanding between Luffy and Zoro. (It’s interesting that Zoro is the one whom Luffy shares this moment with. Would any of the others have quietly accepted Luffy’s request not to fight back? Nami didn’t.) They endure a horrible and humiliating beating at the hands of Bellamy and his crew all the while being laughed at for having dreams. Yet none of them fight back because they both know that “when you’re aiming for the top you’re bound to come across losers who ain’t even worth your fists”.
