Yim Siwan is like, “I will play the most heinous asshole you’ve ever seen or the softest green flag man in existence” there is literally no in between
My heart was yearning to see her again.
Shin Hye Sun as Ban Ji Eum & Ha Yoon Kyung as Yoon Cho Won SEE YOU IN MY 19TH LIFE (2023) dir. Lee Na Jung
You must also have a lot of memories you want to forget.
he’s a baby 🤏🤏🤏
My favorite thing about the Uncanny Counter (esp. season 2) is that So Mun is NOT a reckless lone wolf "I gotta save the world, it's all on me" type of protagonist. He's soft and sweet and emotional and humorous and caring! He has a family and he knows it! He wants to protect others but he wouldn't go behind others or use an underhanded way to do it. Instead, he will passionately charge through with all the emotions he's already feeling. Some other Kdramas can take some fucking note, you know.
@pscentral event 12: take two (comfort) ↳ derry girls (comfort show) + you’re on your own, kid (comfort song)
so so sooooo sexy when tv shows end when they're supposed to. so sexy to have a thematically coherent & significant narrative and follow it to its natural conclusion. I'm salivating
if i never find a boyfriend like jung joon hyung what is the point
Actual Google results for “World’s Greatest Detective”:
Cassian: “I’m different”
So I’m Korean, and there’s this very rebelcaptain-y stuff ‘bout Rogue One Korean subtitles/dubs and I don’t think I’ve written about this on tumblr, so here goes:
“Welcome home” is kinda tricky to translate into Korean because there’s no distinction (not really anyway) between a HOME and a HOUSE. So getting the sentiment across by directly translating the sentence is kinda difficult. You could ~sort of~ pull it off, but the sentence would probably run longer, and you’d have to specify some stuff, so the end product would be something like “welcome to your (new) house”. The sheer length of it all on screen wouldn’t look so pretty (when matched to the short line of “welcome home”) and the specifications (possession markers like “your”) would look weird. And since we’re still keeping the word “house,” some might find the line out of place. (*home translates to 집 in korean, and the most basic meaning of the word -as in, the #1 definition listed on dictionary- is HOUSE.)
So what the super-duper people working with Disney Korea decided to do was to have Cassian say “I’M DIFFERENT [from the people who ran from Jyn obviously].”
Seriously, “I’M DIFFERENT.”
Not even a “WE’re different.”
It’s such a blatant self-appeal on Cassian’s part that I always go “OOH ARE WE ATTEMPTING AT A FULL ON ROMANCE NOW? (blush)(blush)”
Methinks somebody’s a shipper.
AWESOMEEEEEE. The (traditional) Chinese translation is different as well, simply because “welcome home”, when translated literally, is a bit of a weird response to what Jyn said. It just sounds awkward in Chinese, can’t really explain why. So what the subtitles did is:
Jyn: “I’m not used to people not leaving me and not giving me up when terrible circumstances arrive upon me.”
Cassian: “This is what family does.”
So…there you go. It’s a VERY literal translation, so Jyn’s part is a bit weird. But yeah, THIS IS WHAT FAMILY DOES. Bye.
Since we’re on the topic of Rogue One in East Asian languages, I got curious to see what the Japanese dub had done for the “Welcome Home” scene, and hot damn I’m actually feeling pretty warm and fuzzy on the inside.
When Cassian approaches Jyn with his mates to offer himself up, the conversation goes as such:
Cassian: No one believes you. Jyn: Well, thanks for that. Cassian: I’m different from them. I believe you.
He then goes on to the spiel about spies and assassins, stressing at the end not so much a “I couldn’t face myself,” but more of a “There’s absolutely no point in any of this if I just quit now.”
So then, in the dub, Jyn tells Cassian, “I’m usually on my own when things go bad, so this feels weird/different”.
Instead of “welcome home”, Cassian says, “You’ll get used to [the feeling] soon,” implying that he fully intends to stick around and be by her side whenever shit hits the fan.
Pretty sure the Japanese are on board the rebelcaptain hype train, just a bit.
The Glass Onion got many things right, but the one I appreciate more each day is that the movie shows that elementary school teachers who taught through COVID are fucking unstoppable and will fuck you up, with no hesitation.
Ransom using the fake knife to attack Marta in Knives Out and Andi's journal blocking the bullet that would have killed Hellen in Glass Onion.
Something about how both women are saved by the eccentricities of the people who loved them. 🤌
something i really love about benoit blanc & the knives out series in general is that he’s not a savior. hell, he’s barely even a hero. what he does is he empowers people (and by people i do mean underprivileged non-white women). he doesn’t save them, and he doesn’t solve their problems for them, not really. he uses his privilege to uplift them and make sure they can do what they want to do. he tells marta that she’s genuinely a good nurse and doesn’t tell her what to do with the money, and instead of destroying the glass onion himself, he gives helen the power to burn it all to the ground. they are both helped by blanc, but in the end, they make their own choices.
family members will be like 😌 i do not see it 😌 about the years of trauma they caused you growing up but then will never let you forget how moody you were when you were 14
that’s it. that’s the show
are these my only options
