JUNIOR PROJECT PROGRESS UPDATE
I am currently behind on my Junior project, as attempting to keep up with classes outside of studio has rendered me very tired and stressed- however, I am still pursuing this project. I feel as though I have a very good grasp of toon boom's Storyboard Pro, as I have completed two short animatics with it from my own head- one for my final film, and another for fun. As for storyboarding sequences from movies, I have chosen certain segments from 7 films that I would like to analyze and board, as shown below. I have not boarded all of these sequences, but I have studied them and taken notes on their shot composition, angles, and other elements of cinematography.
I would like to analyze these 7, as I feel boarding these sequences is entirely doable, but as long as I stick to a strict schedule and only do these 7. I would like to do more if I end up getting ahead. 10 is my stretch goal, but these 7 are the ones that I think would provide me with the most effective vehicle for learning. WHY WERE THESE FILMS CHOSEN? AVENGERS: Analyzing a fairly "mainstream" movie that focuses on wide shots, crowd shots, and low angles.
BATMAN: Puts the characters up close to the viewer, which side of the screen the characters are on changes who has control of the conversation.
EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE: A highly complex action sequence, I have no experience boarding this sort of thing and I would like to learn.
FANTASTIC MR. FOX: This film was completely storyboarded beforehand, much like all of Wes Anderson's films, and I thought analyzing the quick cuts, flat angles, and montage-esque sequences would be interesting.
HALLOWEEN: I think the initial POV shot is very interesting and would be a fun challenge to board.
SUSPIRIA: This film is shot in a very claustrophobic way, with a suffocating atmosphere, and an almost warped sense of spatial awareness. I felt as though it would be fascinating to explore via storyboarding.
