How to deal with yourself on tumblr:

I’ve seen some new people in the community within the last 2 or so weeks, and I figured I’d help out.

These are rules that exist on tumblr already,however may not be seen by newer people because they don’t follow all the old lifters, and just a couple.

Don’t make/reblog active lifter posts, you may have turned off your search settings, hidden your blog etc but if someone who didn’t hide their stuff and reblogs it and gets found by antis, you’re in the reblogs. They’ll have a list of active lifters to attack

Hide your likes and following list. If you get found its less likely for everyone you follow to get found if you have these hidden.

Talk to other lifters, this community is so nice to one another, better than a couple years ago from what I’ve heard, use that to your advantage. Make friends who you can talk to about this.

DON’T USE HASH TAGS

If a post has more than 300-400 notes avoid reblogging, it makes it easier to get caught

DON’T REBLOG FROM OUT OF THE COMMUNITY.

Be accommodating to new lifters as well. We were all new at one point, don’t act like an ass to new lifters, you were uneducated once too, educate them.

ok girlies and gents and y’alls! i’ve been working in retail for a solid month now and i have some tea that’s ready to be spilled! some of these tips are specific to h/L, some can be applied to any store. anyways, here we go!!

1. if you lift something, for the LOVE OF CHRIST. please lift all of it, including the packaging. it honestly pisses us off more when you steal a single earring & leave the packaging and other earring as opposed to just taking the entire thing. if you take it all then we don’t have to try to sell the item

2. we can’t do anything to you unless we specifically see you concealing an item. if we have suspicion, the best thing we can do is cs you to death and hope you drop the item. so be wary of where you conceal.

3. this is kind of location specific but my h/L has probably 3 domes and TONSS OF BLINDSPOTS. not to mention, i am 99% sure the domes are fake because i’ve been in every little secret room in that store and there’s literally no where to watch cameras. basically, just make sure to conceal when sa’s can’t see you.

4. h/L employees are SUPER INATTENTIVE. unless you ask us a question, we basically just keep to ourselves. we’re too busy restocking merchandise to be watching your every move.

5. there are only RFID’s on really expensive things.

6. ask us questions about locations of merchandise and just random stuff about the store. it makes you look less sus if you’re willing to show your face to sa’s and ask questions. it’s even better if you genuinely act interested in what we’re saying.

7. clearance aisles are cliché. don’t conceal there, don’t ditch packaging there. it’s the first place we look if we suspect someone of lifting. you’re better off concealing in crafts, floral, party, or seasonal. maybe even frames.

8. don’t even try to use the reusable bag or walkout method. reusable bags are a red flag. we don’t have company specific reusable bags, and when you’re putting things in reusable bags it’s superrrr sus, so you’re better off just concealing in a purse or on your body. the walkout method isn’t good either because there’s always at least 1 sa near the entrance retrieving carts or sweeping the floor or some shit like that. if we see a bunch of stuff in your cart & it’s not in bags, we might ask you to show your receipt or come back in the store.

9. this is probably the most important one. if you think you’re being sussed and you feel sketched out, it’s because you probably are. we have an entire binder of BOLO’s (be on lookout) for shoplifters that we catch on cctv (which are only pointed towards the entrance & registers!) so basically, if you feel sussed, just drop&ditch, because we’re most likely onto you and we WILL remember you next time you come in.

again, some of these are LOCATION SPECIFIC!! please do your own research as well!! i’ll add more tips as i learn more! just remember that h0bby l0bby is a racist, anti-lgbt, misogynistic trash company, so rob that bitch blind!!!

101: Scoping Out A Store

I recently had an ask pop in my box asking for tips on lifting from a couple stores. I see a lot of new lifters spamming the inboxes of the community with the same “how do I life xxx from xxx store?” rephrased a few different ways. So let me break down my NUMBER ONE TIP: SCOPING.

SCOPE OUT THE STORE BEFORE YOU LIFT FROM THERE. SCOPE OUT THE STORE BEFORE YOU LIFT FROM THERE. SCOPE OUT THE STORE BEFORE - - are you comprehending what I am trying to say?

What does it mean to scope out a store?

“Scoping” is a verb that shortens “look around the store for cameras without looking suspicious, and all in all figuring out if and when you can get away with lifting at said location.”

Why should I scope out a store?

Lifting is a CRIME. I will not sugar coat it. If you lift anything from a store you are a CRIMINAL, regardless of being a minor or not. There are more ways to mess up a lift than there are to successfully lift from a store. Plain and simple. When you scope out a store you are deciding what places are best to conceal items, where to avoid, what you can reasonably lift, and how to scamper from the store in a calm manner in the shortest time and distance possible. This is useful if for whatever reason you have to halt your lift and get out of the store. Scoping also aids your confidence when you lift. If you know what to do ahead of time, you will be faster and more intelligent with your choices.

I see tips for lifting from XXX all of the time. Can’t I follow their guide and be fine?

Yes and no. Yes, tips are great! Yes, tips are fun! Tips are amazing resources to give you ideas. Yet there is nothing pragmatic about reading tips. No two stores have the same layout. I have three Ulta locations in my area. Ulta does not magically build new buildings for every location so they can look exactly the same with the exact same layout. In this case, Ulta works with the existing building structure to create their store layout. Just because Ulta doesn’t have a camera in the high end foundations at one location, does NOT mean the other two Ulta’s in my area ALSO have no cameras in the same section. Based on building structure and shrink (or items lost/stolen), cameras, two-way mirrors, motion sensors and monitors are in different spots at every store. When someone gives tips about where cameras are located they are only giving a generalization based on THEIR knowledge of ONLY THE LOCATIONS THEY HAVE ENTERED.

How do I scope out a store?

This is a complex question, so forgive me if I ramble. I will take you step by step as to how I scope out a store.

NEVER scope out a store on the same day you plan to lift from the store. Try to plan it out at least a week in advance. I don’t care if you are a minor and your mommy has to drive you everywhere. If you want to seriously take these tip posts to heart, you will scope the area BEFORE you lift, on a day where you are NOT planning to lift.

Use the store location to your advantage. If it is located inside a mall, wall down the hallway and glance through the store windows to locate any cameras nearby the doors. Sometimes you can clearly see all of the camera locations especially in smaller store locations. If there is seating outside the windows, sit in the chairs, sip on a Starbucks, text or talk on the phone, and continue to study the store through the windows. If it is located outdoors in a stand alone building are there any windows you can stand outside? Slip on your sunglasses as being outside in the sun is a perfectly normal reason to wear them, but it also hides your eyes from where they are looking if they are a dark enough tint. Chat on the phone while doing this so you aren’t just standing. Be creative but believable with your conversations. You are waiting for a friend, you are waiting for a ride, you got a call from your boss about work, you were on your way inside when a friend called you for help with a school assignment, or you just wanted to clarify something with a friend. Use this time to hunt for security: cameras, mirrors, SAs (sales associates), bear traps, etc.

Enter the store. If you are greeted be cordial, but do not spill into a long story about how you are just looking around and isn’t it such a nice day and oh look at all of these cameras. Spend your time browsing the store as if you are shopping normally. Depending on the merchandise, read the labels, compare products, search for an ingredient or two that you don’t understand, take a picture of the product, sniff them, lick them. While you are doing this search every. damn. aisle. Walk up and down each aisle as if you are just looking around at the different products and killing time. (A lot of people walk up and down every aisle if you like to people watch or stalk other shoppers for fun.)

MEANWHILE, meaning while doing step two and browsing the products, be on the look out for more cameras. Even if they are dome cameras and they look incredibly fake, assume they are real. There are companies that make horribly cheap cameras that are easily mistaken as fake cameras, and you would not be the first person caught on film because you made the mistake. Keep an eye out for mirrors.

MEANWHILE, meaning while doing step two and step three, be on the look out for mirrors. Assume all mirrors are two-way mirrors, meaning to you it looks like a normal mirror but if someone stands on the other side it looks like a window and they can see your every action.  Most people overlook mirrors, and it gets them into trouble. I have seen people IN PERSON, walk up to a mirror until they are practically on top of it, and thinking no one can see them from the angle they are standing, conceal items in front of the mirror. Then LP or a manager waltzes in and confronts the shoplifter in question. Mirrors are dangerous. SAs can see you from certain angles and it is best to avoid them. If they witness you take and conceal an object (and walk past the point of sale) it is grounds for loss prevention to have them assist in filing a report.

MEANWHILE, BE AWARE OF SAs! (Do you see how this “meanwhile” stuff makes this post very long and probably somewhat confusing when someone asks be to simply break down scoping out a store?) How many SAs are there? Where are the SAs located? How attentive are the SAs? Are they greeting everyone within ten feet or within twenty feet of their presence? Perhaps ask questions about products to several different SAs? Are the SAs earnestly concerned and are trying to help or do they seem pretty disinterested? If you drop your phone on the floor in the same aisle as an SA do they notice or are they too busy working on a project? The more obtuse the staff is, the more likely you can get away with stealing more volume or stealing more cumbersome items.

MEANWHILE, be on the look out for customers. Assume anyone in plain clothes is a member of their loss prevention department OR a vigilant citizen looking for an opportunity to relive their football days and tackle someone. I don’t care if it is a ten year old boy running up and down the aisles while his mother chases after him, or if it is a somber looking granny who is holding onto her shopping cart to keep herself upright. Anyone can snitch, anyone can be LP, anyone can tackle you (Never know - Granny could be doing Cross-Fit four times a week and skydives on the weekends) and therefore ANYONE can get you into trouble. How many customers are in the store? Where do customers like to congregate?

MEANWHILE, be on the look out for exit doors. If you need to make a speedy escape later on how many options do you have? Are there emergency exit doors? Does the door have a label warning of a time lock or a ten second delay?

Mentally make note of the blind spots you have discovered. Hell, you can open up your phone and jot them down - after all, you will look like you are texting. For craft stores check the fabric aisles and the seasonal aisles. Not many people steal an entire bolt of fabric so usually the only cameras in that section are focused on the cutting table where it is easier to stuff small pieces of fabric. Also, not too many people are looking to lift a wreath covered in Easter bunnies and carrots. For clothing stores I usually go the mens department as they are not monitored as heavily. I will even use the mens fitting rooms if I can. They are less busy, usually unattended, and if you are questioned as to why you waltzed into them if you are not a man, there are a billion excuses. You couldn’t find the fitting room for women, the other rooms were full, the other rooms were dirty, this was closer and you really need to find a restroom but wanted to try things on first. For grocery stores I usually locate the aisle with instant noodles and other prepared goods. Not too many people WANT to steal packets of Maruchan Ramen.

ATTEMPT TO GO OUT THE DOORS LABELED “ENTRANCE” when you leave. If there are two sets of doors, of course. I do this to test if the doors have motion sensors on the inside. If someone tries to block your exit during a lift, you confidently know you have another option. Or if someone is sent to the front to ask to check your bag as you leave, usually they assume you will go out the exit and not the entrance.

This is also a great time to play around with how you dress. If you are unsure of the store’s clientele base (meaning what kind of customers walk into their store to shop) you can experiment now. Can you get away with jeans and flats? Is it time to break out the five in heels and an all black designer outfit? Is that MK bag too noticeable? Will a bag from Kohls or F21 look out of place? Try your options then, rather than when you lift. If you need to make several trips to try out several outfits because you are getting negative responses then please do that. It is better to find outfit options that send you under the radar with SAs than something that sticks out. There are plenty of amazing outfit posts out there in this community.

A week or so later, feel free to hit the store. You now know where to conceal without cameras or SAs breathing down your neck! Now you can put into play all of those tips you read about concealing.

I would like to finish my post with two golden rules and an advisory.

First rule of lifting is SCOPE SCOPE SCOPE.

Second rule of lifting is DROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT if you feel uneasy or are sensed by staff or customers, and get out of the store.

Remember, LIFTING is a CRIME. Just because we usually call it “lifting” does not make it different than “stealing”. They are synonyms. They are the same damn thing. Lifting is stealing and both make you a criminal regardless of age.

People will tell you that stealing will lead to employees being fired. While this is not directly true at most retail companies, understand that by stealing you may cause employees to burst into flames. Repeat, employees may have to be set on fire. We are basically arsonists that like to collect pretty things.

 I’d like to mention my thoughts and experiences with the stores on this list I have lifted from.

I have good luck with Hot Topic - at first I thought one of mine had no cameras - but actually both have no cameras. One has towers, one doesn’t. Mine are very, very easy. I don’t know about yours. There are very few, 4 at most attendants in the larger store, and at most 2 in the smaller one. Mine’s not tagged, so I told my partner to use the method of double-hanging to lift the crop top she really wanted. They did count, since they have to unlock the doors, but they did not noticed the double hung shirt. She put it on underneath her sweater and we left.

Bath and Body Works has very few blind spots, but it’s still very easy as the attendants themselves are easy to avoid while you find one. I’d suggest using a partner as your blindspot while you pretend to look at things. Stores with the large open doorways that go from wall to wall don’t even need concealing - you can just walk the fuck out.

Pink is easier than VS in my experience. There was a good blindspot by the doorway connecting the two stores together. That doorway also led into VS’s perfume and makeup section, so I walked out of VS with a Love Spell perfume to conceal it in Pink.

My Wal-Mart personally has little to no cameras in the Sporting Goods and Auto section. It was a long walk from Cosmetics, though, so I had to slip things up my sleeve and walk there to conceal properly. There was also a blind spot in the women’s clothing section - near the bras, panties, scarves, wallets, backpacks, and jewelry. It was near the dressing room, but still concealed.

Forever 21 had tags on all the clothes and almost all of the shoes - I however managed to find a pair of shoes without tags AND in my size, but I got lucky. It was one of two pairs. I also was able to find untagged panties AND bras in one of them. It’s a good place to lift cute hair bands/accessories and lip gloss.

My Barnes & Noble has two levels. The downstairs has lots of cameras and most of the electronics and such that they sell. Upstairs, however, they have all of the novels, like Paper Towns, Maze Runner, Harry Potter, etc. books. And that floor also has the children’s books and stuff. This entire floor. THE ENTIRE THING - had 0 cameras. I concealed in the side room with the novel shelves. I managed to get out with three books.

My Claire’s/Icing was pretty easy. Icing had a huge column in one corner, which was an unfortunately large blindspot in the bridal section. I used it to conceal a fair few items. Their only camera was in the center over the register. I go to two different Claire’s. One has cameras everywhere and several mirrors, and the other falls into the same category as Icing - one over the register, and had two mirrors on the center sides. I got out with a huge flower crown, a phone case, and a few more things. Therefore, mine is considerably easy.

My Lush is INCREDIBLY small. A 8x14 room at the absolute most, with several tables and the counter taking up 50% of the space, it was damn near impossible to hide and conceal. Especially with the fact they had like 8 attendants and 10 customers, excluding my partner and I. Sure, we could’ve grabbed something and just walked out, but we ran the risk of being seen by several people. 2/4 of the walls were windows, as it was on a corner in the mall. There were no cameras.

Both of my Sephoras are damn near impossible. One has cameras everywhere, and the other we got customer serviced to death even though we concealed where no one could see us. We had had an eyeliner, a Naked basics, and a Too Faced blush, but we decided to leave with nothing.

I haven’t hit Michael’s yet, but I’m going to soon - maybe even tonight. They have SEVERAL things I’m looking for, so I’m gonna see what I can get my hands on. I’m specifically hitting it for Copic markers - I’ll come back bearing news.

ALSO: For all the mall stores (Claire’s, Icing, Forever 21, Barnes & Noble, Pink, VS, Bath & Body Works) I used a medium sized Hot Topic bag (because they’re black) Obviously not a very good idea to use that method IN Hot Topic. In Hot Topic, I used my purse - but I really only got small stuff there, like a bottle of Manic Panic, a bracelet, and whatnot.

Same about Lush. Mine is tiny and the SAs won’t leave you alone. I’ve never been there when it’s crowded but I wouldn’t recommend it to a newbie.

My Michael’s was the second place I ever lifted from. There are only a few cameras near the entrance and one down the beads aisle, which of course is mainly what I go there for. But that one has a monitor too, so you can see what it sees. I’d say the best place to conceal would be in the woodworking, knitting, or fake plants section.

The workers in Hot Topic are pretty chill. They do lock the fitting room, but sometimes you can leave the door open and sneak back in and they wouldn’t even care. Also be on the lookout for mirrors while you’re in there. The one I go to has a big one in the top right corner (above the fitting room) instead of a camera. Cameras aren’t the only thing you should worry about! You never know who might be looking!

info on my booster bag

hey liftblr!

if you remember this post i made a little while back, you might be aware that i recently purchased a “faraday bag” meant for protecting your mobile phone/tablet (product linked here) from radio signals used to extract/plant data. my intent was to use it as a booster bag, and i figured i would give you all a little update on how that’s worked out for me, since a few people seem interested & i think it could help other lifters!

first things first, here are the dimensions of the bag:

(the bag itself, with a regular hook tag for scale)

(here it is when it’s folded—it’s about 1.5” thick. i fold it and usually shove it down the back of my jeans so it rests against my back. paired with a loose sweater over it, it’s actually pretty hard to spot.)

you can fit a REALLY decent amount of tags inside this thing, though it does get harder to fold the more are inside. i would estimate, while folded, it can comfortably fit 10-15 tags without getting too bulky. if you stuffed the thing with disregard for bulkiness, i’d approximate you could easily fit 40-50+ tags inside, maybe more. i got the tablet size* for 70 USD, and while it is pricey, i’m really pleased!

*they also sell a cell phone size for 50 USD, which is a good deal smaller, but i’m sure you could still fit a few tags inside, and it would also be easier to conceal on-person.

i’ve tested it at the following stores, and been able to pass through the entrance* (with tags inside) incident free:

- although not a store, it worked on my iphone, lol. putting it inside makes it unable for calls or texts to get through, and when you bring the phone out, there are a few seconds before the phone “pings” with a tower that you can see it still reads “no cellular service available.”

- forever 21

- pacsun

- lululemon

- sephora**

- urban outfitters

- h&m**

- aerie

- aeropostale

- victoria’s secret/PINK***

*while i can’t concretely verify that all these stores actually had towers/working towers at that, i know for certain that the towers at urban outfitters worked, as well as the ones at VS/PINK. i did my testing at a relatively upscale mall, so i would assume all stores would be adequately prepared with LP measures like working towers.

**i did not conceal tags directly from these stores, but the tags i had on my person from other stores did not create an incident at these places.

***this one is a bit of a special case. i walked into the VS side of the store with tags concealed in my booster bag and the towers did NOT go off—i know for a fact they were working, however, because a woman beeped on her way out (and subsequently, an SA searched her bag). however, upon leaving the PINK side of the store with tags from PINK/VS inside my bag, i did beep. more on this down below.

here are the types of tags i’ve found success with concealing in my bag & walking out with:

top left: clam tag from UO

top right: ink tag from F21/pacsun

bottom left: hook tag from lululemon

bottom right: hook tag from A&F

now, here are the tags that may have given me a problem:

i believe all of these are from VS/PINK, though i’m not entirely certain on the tag with the wire. these tags were the ones i added to my bag while inside of the VS/PINK, and subsequentially the ones that must have made me beep. upon entering a kate spade store with the same assortment of tags in my bag, i also beeped on both entry and exit.

my lifter friend (who was there at the time) and i tried to brainstorm reasons why these tags might have made me beep. note that we made sure i hadn’t left any tags/hidden RFIDs in my purse or on the merchandise i had concealed on my person. here’s what we were able to come up with (keep in mind that neither of us know jack shit about the science behind radio signals and whatnot):

- it’s possible that one or more of the tags in the picture above uses a frequency that was not blocked by the bag? i believe this would be possible if one of the tags used a radio frequency <600MHz or >5 GHZ. just gonna put it out there that i have no ideas what those numbers mean, but on the website, that‘s the range of frequencies the bag claims to block. the same case could be made with other kinds of signals the website lists that have some kind of range associated with them.

- again, just putting it out there that i have NO IDEA how radio signals or otherwise work, but maybe the amount of tags in my bag created a combined signal strength that overwhelmed the bag? i don’t even know if signals can do that, but if they can that might be an explanation. after i started beeping, we went back to my lifter friend’s car and ditched all of the tags inside the bag before continuing (cautiously) lifting. for the rest of the day, we were careful to ditch tags as frequently as possible to limit the number inside the bag, just in case this theory had any connection to why i beeped.

that’s all the information i can give you about my bag. overall, i’m SUPER pleased with how it’s working out for me—i’ve been able to steal upwards of $1300 worth of merchandise with it so far, so the cost of the bag was money well-spent. even with the rouge beep at VS, i would say i have confidence in the bag for use while lifting. although i do still have to stay vigilant whenever i pass through towers, you should ALWAYS be alert, booster bag or not, when you leave a store, and never assume that you won’t beep.

i hope this post could help some people out—and if anyone has some kind of knowledge that could concretely explain the beeping incident at VS/PINK, it would be much appreciated (for me, and anyone else who uses any kind of booster bag).

Lifter Alert: You Are Being Tracked

I just read some articles on some new technology some stores are using to track people in their store and across entire malls. I could get into technicalities, but the baseline of it is that stores are using your phone’s wifi pings to get information about your searches, personal info, and most alarmingly, an address specific to your phone. This system is not only able to accurately track where you are in the store live, but is also able to tell if you’ve visted the store before, how often, how long ago, and which areas you’ve visited most often.

This system of tracking is not only an exposure of privacy for shoppers, but also dangerous for lifters. The solution most people reccommend in response is to completely disable wifi, though I would personally take it safe and just turn on airplane mode while I lift. The idea of being so precisely tracked is scary, and luckily only a few stores, mostly high end like Marks and Spencers, but also casual places like Topshop have this tracking system so far.

Okay. Ex-hacktivist and experienced computer user here. There’s a few problems with this post.

“Wifi pings” aren’t real. The PING function on a device verifies that a particular IP address is online. Nothing more. It gives away no location or any other data.

IP addresses are indeed specific to your phone, but are renewed regularly and can be easily hidden with a VPN. Seriously. It’s not that hard.

Stores dont have the cybersecurity resources to do most of what you’re saying. Take it from me, folks. I’ve worked at several cybersecurity firms that didn’t even have this supposed level of resources. You cant track people that easily, unless you own services the person uses. The only way a store can track you like this is if they partner with Google to get your location (via Google maps’s location services) or if you download a store’s app and it has access to your location. Otherwise they cant really get it, at least not easily! Just dont be stupid online and nothing is going to happen. Also, dont connect to a stores wifi. They can get info from you that way too.

Either this post is mad bullshit, the interpretation of the articles is mad bullshit, or the articles themselves are mad bullshit. Don’t “signal boost” this shit. I dont mean to attack the creator of this post, but all this is doing is creating hysteria that is completely unnecessary. If you have any further questions feel free to ask me. How to deal with fitting room policies

Classified from easiest to trickiest.

Disclaimer : i’m not talking here about what will happen if they catch you, i’m talking about what employees and fitting room attendants usually do with your items.

- Unattended fitting rooms 

Unattended fitting rooms are God’s gift to all lifters. No one to see you enter, no one to see you leave. You’re hella free to do anything as long as you don’t come in with 7 shirts and come back with 1.

- Unattended but monitored fitting rooms

Same as above, only difference is the entrance to the fitting rooms have cameras directly filming it. They might not be watched, but in case make sure your items look the same when you exit than when you entered, and don’t look directly at the camera.

- Unattended but locked fitting rooms

If you need someone to open the room for you, but no one is actually around, conceal in the blindspot formed by the fitting room corridor and then call an employee. If there’s a camera, conceal away from it.

- Fitting room attendants that don’t count

Take roughly 7 items with you and only conceal one, or if you want to feel more secure double hang items, they’re more likely to not be noticed.

- Fitting room attendants that count

You can either double hang (make it look flawless), conceal on the floor or lie about the number. I don’t recommend that however if they double check your hangers, even discreetly.

- Employees that take items from you while counting

Don’t even think about lying or dougle hanging here, better conceal on the floor. If the store is very busy, conceal a small shirt and use it as a decoy to conceal a bigger items that you brought on a hanger.

- Employees that take items from you while you’re still browsing

These are very annoying IMO, even if they’re just doing their job afterall. Get them to start a room for you, conceal on the floor or slip some items inside the room while they’re looking away. 

The leftover rack technique

I didn’t know where to put that one so here it is : stores often have a special rack for items you don’t want anymore, casually located near the fitting rooms. I found 2 ways to use that to your advantage.

- When no one is watching, quickly grab some items from the rack and use them as decoys, and hand them back as if they were yours all along.

- When browsing, place some items you plan on lifting on the rack. You’ll get them later inside your room when dropping items you don’t want. This requires that no employee is gonna empty the rack/ see you, but it works pretty well against attendants that take items from you when you’re still browsing.

So I’ve been lurking in this community (hence, the name) since June-ish of 2014. I figured I’d share my experiences with you, because I think you guys could benefit. I’ve stolen some really, really cool things. My biggest “accomplishment” is probably my bike which was over a grand, from REI. I detagged on the floor, hid the tag in a helmet box, had my boyfriend carry my purse and walked out as the happiest girl who just bought a new bike. My boyfriend also got a super expensive bike a month later, but he acted like the bike was already his and he was picking it up from them after being fixed. I’ve also gotten ~$300 jackets from there but that’s the same as stealing any clothes when the store is not a boutique.

I have a few things from Ralph Lauren Polo, but I have one crazy nice blazer that was $1,100 from a normal Ralph Lauren, the stores with the dull lighting and super attentive associates. There was a lady who claimed me as hers and followed me around taking everything I showed interest in and put it in a fitting room. At the time I didn’t know what I was going to do, but just went with it. After I had about 6-7 things in the dressing room I said I was ready to try those items on. I tried on everything as normal, and really wanted two of the items but knew I should only get one if I was to get anything at all. So I put the blazer in a shopping bag along with the hanger. I left about 3 items in there and took the rest out of the dressing room folded over my arm and told the lady I was still thinking about them. I moseyed around the store for a bit and when I lost her I hung the clothes in my arm back up and left. I use this method a lot.

My boyfriend stole the display Nespresso from Sur la table, and we use that thing everyday, I highly suggest getting one. We stock up on the coffee from William Sonoma because that stores easy as pie, and we haven’t found the right pods for the machine at Sur la table. I’ve stolen a bunch from both those stores and I love everything I have, but I live in an apartment and need things like a potato masher, where you guys mostly live with parents (?) so you don’t really need those things. But I know there are people out there who do, so don’t waste your time at target or anything. I also stole an ice cream machine from William Sonoma, I walked in and it was right there, so I took it and walked right back out before anyone knew I was there. I also stole an ottoman from Michaels that way, when we walked in I said, “hey look, we could steal that” and my boyfriend just picks it up and walks out to our car with it.

We also stole a nice sheep skin fur throw pillow from Z Gallery that way, it was right there on display it was so dead in there that no one even knew we were in there yet. So we seized the opportunity.

I can’t remember if you guys talk about, or like express, but that store’s really easy and some of their stuff is really chic. It’s the easiest place to get shoes because they have no cameras so you hid it under clothes and no one ever monitors the fitting rooms. Brooks brothers is easy if you look like you belong, that’s really important. J-Crew’s the same way, those are probably the easiest preppy stores if you play the part.

I went to Macy’s and saw a super cute Michael Kors backpack on display. It had a wire running through the strap that was connected with a tag that need a hook and then it was connected to the table. I think that Macy’s profiled people a lot, Im white, so I feel like they were preoccupied. I acted like I was checking out the bag while I was de-tagging it, then took it to the dressing room and removed the stuffing, but it in my bag and left.

I’ve gotten 2 fans, 2 sleeping bags, a cooler, and a tent from target just by walking out. If they not watching you on camera, which they probably aren’t because I think they expect people to conceal, then walking out is as close to fool proof as you’re gonna get, because I don’t think they can stop you just because they didn’t witness you personally pay for it, but who knows, maybe I got lucky, but I was super confident. Those things weren’t all at once, I also had my boyfriend there. I walked out of the Pink store with a roller luggage bag worth $200, it would’ve been even cooler if I had filled it with stuff, lol.

I’ve gotten a digital camera from best buy, it was an old best buy, so they didn’t have as many security cameras as some of the other ones I’ve been in, like the guy in the front was just standing there, he didn’t even have a screen to look at, but whos to say there wasn’t someone in the back monitoring, because there were some cameras, just not a lot. I had my boyfriend be a look out while I knelt down and used my magnet on one of those grey alpha boxes. Concealed and was on my merry way. That one got my heart going like crazzzy.

We tag teamed two desks and a couch from Ikea, but not at the same time. The couch, and then the 2 desks a separate trip. The couch we didn’t really have a plan so we just walked through the registers like we already bought it, but couldn’t get it in one trip. Like, we already bought stuff and it was in the car, and we were coming back for it. The desks we actually had the money for, and decided to steal them last minute. The way we did that one was we acted like my boyfriend paid for them and then got me and had me wheel them out, if that makes sense. With Ikea and big items you really have to have a lot of confidence like you already bought the item.

I want to tell you guys that you can most definitely steal from Nordstrom, I’ve gotten a Burberry shirt and Burberry pants, at the same time. With both I wasn’t even planning on stealing, I just wanted to wear some Burberry for a sec. But when I tried on the shirt it had one of those weird tags that are like the pulse checker at the hospital that they just slip on your finger. It just slipped on the shirt so it wouldn’t ruin the fabric. But when I pulled the shirt over my head like any person would, the sensor flew off and started beeping. An associate came by and I was like, “sorry, I was just trying it on.” And she acted like it happens a million times and took it and the shirt, stopped the beeping, and came back with it back on the shirt. I go to put the shirt on again and it flies off again, but doesn’t beep. Im a frozen statue at this point, thinking, I should do this. So I sling the pants and shirt over my arm because neither of them are tagged now but I think that lady is still out there. When I walk out shes not there and im like fuck I could have just concealed there because I was planning on taking them to a different department, hiding them under some clothes and concealing then, which is what I did anyways. So yeah. 

Two Marc Jacob cross bodies, one was super small and I don’t know how I did it. The second one was on a whim and it’s a bigger bag that I now use for college. But I didn’t have my magnet, so I just slung it over my shoulder acting like it was mine, and walked out. I didn’t walk out the entrance to the mall, I walked out a door that led to a street mall kind of, so since there was no parking out there, there were no towers, so I didn’t beep.

I also got some make up, an awesome Sam Edelman leather jacket that I wear all the time. With that one I found it, put it on, it looked great with the outfit I was already wearing, so I kept it on an acted like it was already mine. Shortly after I put it on and was continuing shopping in there, a sales associates says, “oh my god, I love that jacket it, whered you get it? It looks so good on you, fits perfectly. Did you just get it?” and my boyfriend goes, “yep, she just got it.” It was hilarious because I could tell that she wasn’t servicing me to death like some stores do if they suspect you’re shoplifting, so funny.

If they suspect you they will make it very obvious by following you, they’re very obvious about it. It’s how I “got caught” and I put it in quotes because I feel like I was in some fugue state because I knew they were onto me be I didn’t drop my stuff, ugh, I’ve come to terms with it, but still I was like drunk with power or something, don’t let it go to your head. Anyways, I got a Burberry coat from the section and there was a lady talking to me about it trying to make a sale, I was already wearing my Burberry shirt so I figured I didn’t have to worry about being profiled. She said that she “would love to help me out” or something like that trying to get me to buy it right then and there, but I had other shopping to do, so I told her that. I later was able to read the report that LP made when I was sitting in the DA’s office. Apparently that lady called LP saying she had a customer “refusing help and leaving the section with product” or something, so from then on they followed me on foot. I got some stuff from top shop and then my boyfriend wanted to look at the dudes stuff so we went downstairs to look and I decided to use that dressing room. After they let me in a stall they let another girl into the stall next to me. There was a little bench in the stall and I was able to look under and see that she was just sitting there. I should have just ditched everything and left then, hind sights 20/20. I de-tagged the coat and attached the sensor to the stuff I didn’t want. When I left I was suspicious of that girl so I left and started looking at the men’s stuff but watched her. She met up with another girl outside the fitting room and they whispered to each other. They were in normal clothes with purses and such, and they both had one earbud in. Seriously, it was so fucking obvious, I can’t even believe I went through with it. I honestly thought I was fine because I wasn’t concealing, it was just drapped over my arm like it was already mine. 

I left and they stopped me, brought me back to a room in the entry way leading outside, it wasn’t upstairs or anything, while I was walking back they kept telling me I couldn’t put my hands in my bag and this girl was pretty big and im only 110 so I complied. When we got to the room they went through my stuff and I was in the middle of a haul so I had a lot of stuff, not as much as usual, thank god, because they did end up “having” to call the police even though I turned on the water works and said it was my first time, the cops added everything up and I was like $300 dollars away from a felony, which I think is like 2 grand where I am, but you guys know $300 is only like a couple items, the Burberry coat alone was $900. But it was still like the most serious misdemeanor you could get, plus the magnet.

I was arrested and brought to the police department within the mall, that’s actually where they added everything up. I was really conversational with them and asked them if I hadn’t cooperated would they have put me in jail, and he said yes. Which is nice, because obviously Im stealing I definitely don’t have money for bail or fines or anything. My court date was set for like 4 months after the incident and they gave me an option of a year of supervised probation with a class, community service, and all the jazz. Or 30 days in home detention (house arrest), but still able to go to school and have 4 hours a week to run errands. So I chose the 30 days because supervised probation means UA’s which pretty much means no partying and having to meet with an officer like every other week, and the mall I was arrested at was like 20 minutes from where I live so they sent me to the closes courthouse to the mall, so it was like 40 minutes away from my house, not even including that they wanted to charge me $800 for probation and only $250 for in home detention. Plus I didn’t want to suffer for a whole year instead of a month, so im glad I picked that one.

I also haven’t started paying for stuff. I definitely slowed way down, mostly because having multiple offenses, is wwway worse than having one. But I still go hard when I feel the timing is right. Today my boyfriend and I went to an outlet mall and got a kitchen aid stand mixer which i’ve wanted for like a decade! I still need a better bed frame, but after that my list of stuff I need is pretty small, which is nice.

Reusable, eco-friendly bags are your friend. No, they’re more than that - they’re your soulmates. Use them. Love them. Treasure them. Worship them.

Walk in with as many as you think you need (plus a few extra, ya know, just in case you grab one too many packs of dino nuggets, because we’ve all been there.)

Grab a basket, it’l make it easier for big trips, and makes you look less sus. Shop like you normally do.

When putting the items in your basket, put them directly into your bags. To other shoppers and employees, it looks like you’re just helping the environment. Saving the planet. Bein’ a god Samaritan. Act casual. Confidence is key.

Plan ahead. If you live in the south, and you feel like hitting up HEB, carry old bags or an old receipt so that when you walk out the door, you can say you’re just checking prices or some bullshit. Glancing at it makes you look busier and security is less likely to stop you. This also works for Walmart and Krogers as well. (Although I’m betting it’ll work at any retailer mind you, just be smart and careful. Know your area and the security around you. Pay attention.)

Walk out. Literally, walk out the damn door. Walk to your car. Load groceries into said car. BE CONFIDENT. STRUT UR STUFF.

Drive away.

Enjoy your food angels, because it tastes so much better when it’s free. 

(if anyone else has any other tips or tricks, feel free to add, like I said, this was my first time grocery lifting, so most of this is what I have read from other blogs and tips I’ve picked up from friends, and things I picked up while I was in the store.)

I was always confused about the bags, bc I see people with them all of the time, and I wasn’t sure if they put the food in their bags while the the bags are open in the cart, or if the cashier uses the eco friendly bags to bag your groceries while you’re checking out. That’s why I haven’t tried just walking out, but, I have had many, many meals courtesy of my purse (: now I need a snack. thank you for taking the time to tell us your technique 🍒

and what about the bags? am I trippin, or is that how it works? Is it normal to see someone just putting food into the bags as they go through the store, or should i use a blind spot to conceal? sorry for sounding annoying, but I’ve been wanting to dk this for a while, so I just want to be clear, before I walk through the store like I own the muthaf*#a, just putting stuff in my bag, lol

what i do is go w just one Giant reusable bag, and don’t get a cart or basket. since i don’t have a cart, it doesn’t look sus at all to put it all directly into my bag! i get my shelf/dry goods at one store, then get anything frozen/wet at another grocery store! this also limits the time i spend in each store which makes me feel better at least

usually, when I’ve been to the grocery store, people bring reusable bags but don’t put their groceries directly in them while they shop. they give the bags to the cashier to bag the groceries when they check out. So I think it might look kind of odd to put stuff directly into the bags, at least from my experience. If you just had one bag and not a cart, maybe it’d look a bit less sus but that’s what they have the little hand baskets for, so..

like i said, this works for me in my location and at my store. there is a huuuuuuge chance in hell that if i did this anywhere else id get caught. this honestly was a test run and we needed food so i grabbed a bunch of everything so that i wouldnt have to come back for a while. what I’m probably doing next time is just bringing one or two bags and grabbing more essentials, just to tone it down. but honeslty, no one looked at me twice and i walked right out. just know your store guys lol
