How to Spend St Valentine`s Day in London
Make St Valentine`s Day special and indulge your loved ones to a romantic treatment to make this a day to remember and express your love. Getaway with your other half to London, a city of love ideal for couples, as it offers numerous opportunities to celebrate St Valentine`s Day together with a difference, be it a romantic candlelit dinner for two or something more extraordinary like a ride on London Eye or river cruise, here is Short Let London ideas on how to spend this day in London.
The most widely spread and popular way of celebrating a Day of Love is having a romantic dinner, in London there is a range of restaurants catering for every budget. Some of the most romantic places in Central London are: Adam`s Cafe, Kettner` s (in the centre of Soho), Princess Garden, Yauatcha, Pearl Liang (near Paddington stn), Momo, Sketch, Dinings, Royal China Club in Baker street, Gordon Ramsay (South West London), Le Gavroche and others. However, if you want to really surprise your loved ones, cook a dinner yourself, as according to old saying the way to someone's heart lies through their stomach; it will be the most romantic hand-made gift, Short Let London apartments are self-catering, London flats have own fully fitted kitchen sufficient for cooking (www.shortlet-london.com).
There is no woman on Earth, who would not love chocolate or sweets, so here is a unique idea for your sweetheart – present her with a chocolate making workshop, here you will be able to taste all sorts of world chocolates and a glass of bubbly, learn how to make and decorate them and even take your own Valentine`s goody bag home, take a look at The Cocoa Box Truffle Making workshop or Green & Black Chocolate Workshop. Other variations of this gift are cupcakes` decorating workshops or Chocolate Tour of London, she will love it!
Treat yourself and your beloved to a relaxing time out with a sensual spa, massage or body wrap and facial masks to cleanse your body and mind from everyday life stress, Short Let London recommends. To show your love splash out and go on a romantic river night cruise – dine and have some champagne on a boat while admiring stunning London sights along the Thames banks.
A great idea for singletons not to feel missed out is to go on a Wheel of Date and try your chances with other 500 single Londoners, who will be randomly allocated to date capsules on London Eye (16 persons each). The after-party will be continued at the Old Vic Tunnels – one of the largest underground and edgy art venues beneath Waterloo Station, where you will have a chance to meet the rest of the dates closer, so the Wheel of Date might really decide your fate! Or you can simply attend one of Valentine`s Day parties in London clubs and venues.

How to survive snowy weather in London
Bet you have been enjoying a real winter that had landed properly in London last week. While snowy London does really look pretty, it can also get a bit messy as England is not very used to or adjusted to freezing chaotic weather. In particular public transport system can cause a lot of problems to Londoners, so if you do not want to be running late for work/college all the time and are bored of being locked up inside, read on for Short Let London recommendations on how to enjoy the snow in London.
Transport for London (TFL) are working very hard to keep the public transport system running, if you remember the snow falls in 2009 the whole city was simply paralysed because transport stopped working and it was not possible to get anywhere. These days TFL is striving to maintain the main roads and transport network open throughout severe weather conditions. However, there might be some delays to your journey so it is strongly recommended that you check before you travel. The best website to use for planning your travel ahead is www.tfl.gov.uk , some routes may be delayed or cancelled therefore allow extra time to your average journey. This information is also available on posters and through publicity at the stations. Live updates are also available on Twitter (i.e. follow @tfltravelalerts, @tflbusalerts, @tfltrafficnews).
Over 89,000 tonnes of salt has been stockpiled, and TFL is working in close collaboration with all London boroughs to keep London moving. TFL staff are working hard to keep the roads clear– by gritting the roads and platforms, de-icing the rails and footpaths across London for the pedestrians and road users to be able to move as smooth as possible. You still are advised to take extra care during the cold weather and be aware of slippery surfaces, be cautious on the road and do not rush as you may be causing danger to yourself or those around you.
Do not just stay in though, go outside and admire the beauty of London sights and landmarks covered in snow! As it is freezing cold do not forget to wear your warm cloth and boots, such accessories as gloves, hats and scarves are a must. And if you need a warm apartment to come back to after your exciting walks around London, Short Let London will provide you with a private letting flat in London that you can rent for a short stay (www.shortlet-london.com).
Short Let London would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and special festive holidays time full of joy, love and magical moments!

Ice skating in London
With only over a month left until Christmas it is time now to get into festive spirit and create a winter fairytale in your life. There are many ways to create Christmassy mood, like decorating your house with lights and Christmas tree, getting the presents shopping done, eating some festive food like gingerbreads, mince pies and puddings. Though what can give us a better feeling of approaching winter holidays than ice skating and listening to Christmas songs? Here is Short Let London list of the most incredible ice rinks in London, each of them have a magical feature to it!
They call it the most glamorous ice rink in London, no wonder as while skating on the courtyard of Somerset House, also a host to London Fashion Week shows, you can bump into some celebrities and fashionable famous people. But this is not the main reason why we love Somerset House ice rink, while skating you on the 900 Sq m ice rink you get the feel of the 18th century grand architecture, the rink opens from today and you can be among the first visitors to find your feet on the ice. Somerset House also offers skate lessons and penguin Club for skating with children, and late club nights with DJs. When you are done you can warm up with mulled vine at rink side bar Tom`s Skate Lounge or choose the luxury present from Christmas Arcade.
Skate next to the greatest fortress in London, the Tower of London, the rink is known as Ice at the Tower. The ancient historical setting and music on the background will create the fairytale atmosphere, a fellow Historic Royal palace Hampton Court has also got its own ice rink. The session lasts for an hour and it is recommended to book tickets in advance to avoid long queuing. Eyeskate is the open-air rink in Jubilee gardens by the river Thames with views on the London Eye, you may also book a package with the ride on the Eye. Natural History Museum Ice Rink in South Kensington also offers festive seasonal experience placing the Christmas tree in the centre of the rink this year, and its cafe bar and Open air balcony opens an amazing view on the ice rink.
If you want to feel yourself in wonderland then head to Hyde Park, where Winter Wonderland fun fair will greet you with thousands lights, rides and attractions. The ice rink here is the largest outdoor rink in the UK. The atmosphere in Hyde Park is simply fantastic, the Magical ice Kingdom is worth a visit, you can find stalls with Christmas souvenirs, food, warm cider and mulled vine.
Get on your skates and come to London, festive season here has begun and it is a wonderful place to be at Christmas time. City Break in London
Summer has finished, but this does not mean that your holidays have to as well. Here is Short Let London suggestion about how to extend your holiday and feel the season longer. So why not to have a city break and instead of typically heading to the beach resort go to London and spend an amasing holiday in one of the largest capitals in the world.
Interestingly, London is not very famous for good weather in summer, but autumn months can be nice and sunny. The city break in London means you will have time of cultural exploration. If you have already visited the main historical and heritage sites like Buckingham Palace, the House of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, The Tower of London and Tower Bridge etc., why not to visit some great museum, which are also free of charge, these are The British Museum, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Science Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum. A must see for art lovers are Tate Modern and Tate Britain, Southbank Centre and its Hayward Gallery, Barbican Art Centre, Somerset House, Royal Academy of Arts and The Whitechapel Gallery. These galleries have special contemporary art exhibitions on and change them periodically.
Any good holiday cannot be complete without quality food, drinks and parties, and London is definitely the best place to be, as here you can find the cuisine from different countries and the world top clubs. For a modern European and French meal – go to Islington and Angel, this area buzzes with lots of decent restaurants like Le Mercury, and stylish cocktail bars and pubs, and you are just round the corner from Central London and some of the best night clubs, like Fabric. Visit Edgware Road and Marble Arch if you are after some Arabic dishes, the restaurants with Iranian, Lebanese, Moroccan kitchen are located here, you can finish it off by smoking shisha or heading to the posh bar in West End or Mayfair. Some of the best Turkish restaurants can be found in Dalston, such as Mangal, Cirrik or the White Cave, which make the best traditional BBQs and kebabs, after the meal go down the road to Shoreditch pubs to experience a very British and diverse night scene, get inspired by cool Britons` fashion and trends. Not far from here, just off Liverpool Street is one of the best stake places in London –Hawksmoor restaurant, it might be pricey but worth trying, they also serve the wonderful Sunday Roast, so you can visit it after wandering about the Brick Lane market. For unforgettable night out visit the world`s famous club Ministry of Sound to see your favourite DJ playing and dance until the dawn.
Short Let London can offer you budget short term accommodation in London during your city break. You can choose rental apartments from variety of areas in North West and Central London that have good connection to main London attractions, clubs and restaurants. London 2012 Paralympics Games
The atmosphere in London these days is really festive and special, the Paralympics Opening Ceremony on the 29th of August really uplifted everyone’s mood. It was the celebration of the extraordinary willpower and people with brave spirits, and honouring human rights, nowadays social diversity and equality disregarding the race, ability, religious views or cultural background. The theme of the Opening ceremony was dedicated to the Age of Enlightenment, the great physicist Stephen Hawking is encouraging the central heroine of the show to “be curious” about the world around her, and the actor Ian McKellen is telling her to go into the world and explore it, as it is only the beginning of her life adventure.
This is going to be the largest Paralympics Games to date, the Opening Ceremony attracted 11.2 million TV audiences while the Games return to its home country, where they were first established in 1948. The theme that could be seen through the whole show was the umbrellas symbolising the rainy English weather, over hundred disabled people (including sportsmen) took part in the performance. The Opening Ceremony also had references to Newton`s theory of gravity, the Big Bang, the Large Hadron Collider experiments and the process of discovery. The Paralympics games kicked off yesterday with enormous success, the stadiums are full with visitors and the sportsmen are showing incredible results and new world records, encouraging all of us and giving other people with disabilities hope and believe in their lives.
Short Let London hopes that London 2012 Paralympics will have a positive legacy and will influence government to spend more on funding and supporting people from diverse background, and we should all come to see the games and give our support and cheers to these brave personalities as this is the least that we can do. When you come to London for Paralympics we will be happy to provide you with budget accommodation and short let apartments in London for rent. Please contact Short Let London for more information and seasonal promotions www.shortlet-london.com.
