So I don’t really know how to start this post apart from saying this is what my body looks like without clothing. I’m posting this because I feel like if I had seen pictures like these growing up, I wouldn’t have felt so insecure about myself. Now you may be thinking, “wow Alexis, this is something I never wanted to see and I think I’m going to be sick.” Normally I’d apologize but I’m not this time, I’m done apologizing. I’m tired of hiding my stretch marks, sucking in for pictures, trying to make my body as small as possible in hopes that some day someone would love me or at least want to befriend me. I’ve felt trapped by my body for a long time, not because of my weight but rather because I was taught to hate it ever since the first stretch mark appeared and I was no longer able to fit in the “normal” clothing section. My body is a beautiful thing. It may not be aesthetically pleasing to look at but it’s a working piece of art. It houses a brain that allows me to share my thoughts and a heart that contains so much love for others. It allows me to get from point A to point B. I’ve hated this body for the last 8+ years and today is the day that ends. I will no longer be ashamed of something so beautiful. From now on I will treat it with respect. I will nourish it with the proper food and start spending more time on it in order to ensure that it lasts a long time. You may be grossed out and I wouldn’t blame you because society has taught you that only a body with no visible fat and flaw-free skin is what is truly beautiful. I can’t blame people for believing an idea that they’re force fed daily through every possibly form of media. Just know that your body is beautiful no matter what it looks like and you shouldn’t be ashamed of it.
