SUBLIME CINEMA #395 - LA LA LAND

This is a movie born out of a passion for old musicals, with hints of Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Singing in the Rain and many others. I adored Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash, and though La La Land was more divisive (some hated this film), it comes from a place of love and of his own musical background. He’s one of the most interesting young directors around. Cinematographer Linus Sandgren brings the lush images to life, inspired by the vibrant Technicolor of previous eras.
