Isn't Hannibal problematic...
no, but i understand the confusion! it's a common misconception, but serial murder and cannibalism are okay in real life.

"tumblr's the only social media without algorithms!" "you can still be anonymous on tumblr!" "tumblr's so nice because you don't have to show your face!" WRONG tumblr is special because you can have 3000 followers and still get an average of seven likes a post. i'm doing stand up comedy at a packed venue and one person is laughing
youre right im sorry beautiful

some dudebros: tom hardy must be held at gunpoint to still be doing these sony venom movies
tom hardy: WRITES the movie, PRODUCES the movies, repeatedly states how much venom and eddie means to him, reads all the comics, #1 veddie shipper
"can I DM you?" babe we're mutuals, we can touch tongues if you want
can't ask for donations, can't film their genocide, can't show scans of sniper bullets, can't express anger, can't express support for the resistance, can't even pet post. everything is inherently suspect, a play on emotions, a trick, an angle, a setup. this shit is disgusting.

ok question tho
ive actually fucking tried to google this but i cant find an answer, all i get are fics
where does the whole “five times _____ and one time ____” fic title thing come from??
is it a reference to something? or is it just a fanfiction thing?
It comes from Basingstoke, a writer from the Due South and Smallville fandoms.
I know she’s on Dreamwidth. I don’t know if she has an AO3 or not.
There might have been one or two REALLY early examples of that story form (like 1980s early), but she invented it as we know it.
ETA: As a matter of fact, here’s the first Five Things story ever: http://archiveofourown.org/works/9519
I just found the Fanlore article, and it looks like while Basingstoke invented the format, Strangecreature, a Torchwood writer, might be one of the first to have used “five times and one time.” But the original prompt was Basingstoke’s. And it’s definitely fanfiction only in origin.
I love it when conversations about this come around again! How cool is it that I know people in fannish history! (and how uncool is it that I never know it was Bas who invented this until recently – where was I, under a rock?)
tee hee. It wasn’t on purpose! I did the first Five Things and then people have been riffing on it for the past decade. It’s neat.
It’s SUPER neat. I love fandom.
Sometimes you watch a show and you're like: wow, they had a serious show bible for this. And you just know it's treated like the holy grail it is by everyone involved, that it's laminated, that it's got annotations, footnotes, color coordination, a section for foreshadowing, callbacks, foils and parallels, that an eye blink doesn't get blunk without it matching that character's arc for the season and the show overall.
And sometimes you watch a show and you know that show had a pamphlet, one with, say, the word TEEN written on the front, WOLF on the back and just [TBD] splatted inside, probably with (abs?) scrawled on the bottom somewhere. And someone put their gum in it around the start of the fourth season.
"Waa why aren't fandoms fun anymore" because you keep policing people's headcanons, make fun of cosplayers, make fun of selfshipers, make fun of beginner artists and just make fun of people for having fun 😐
You guys want this to stay fun? Support each other! Or. Say. Nothing.
Weird-ass headcanon or hot take that has you scratching your head? Find something about it you agree with to comment on! ...or say nothing.
Cosplayer doesn't look anything like the character? They worked hard on it and want you to see it! Commend them for their attention to detail, paintwork, or stitching. ...or say nothing.
See a creative work that isn't at the god-level tier you'd prefer to see on your dash? Leave a comment or a reblog containing something you DID like about it. That person who's just beginning to hone their skills was brave enough to share their creative journey and might be the person you're raving about in a year because YOU were the one to show them the encouragement they needed to keep at it and get better. ...or say nothing.
Don't like that people are self-shipping themselves with your favorite blorbo, shipping in a way that squicks you, or doing something else you find incredibly cringy? No one's forcing you to interact with that content. Filter tags, filter words, and block the content from your feed! ...and say nothing.
The path to a fun fandom isn't hard. Be nice. Encourage people. These are HOBBY spaces. They're supposed to be fun!
This is the highest compliment I could receive on my art
He will not let me down. He never has.
