flower chain || Maemi || Chapter 4 Free Time [Akira]
shsl-timidapparelworker:
Akira didn’t look up from his lap, his heart pounding in his chest so heard he could hear it in his ears. He waited for a reply from her, he blinked, somewhat confused at her pat on his head and her words.
Slowly, he lifted his head back up- the red blush covering his entire face by now- the smile disappeared after she spoke. Had he not been clear enough?
“I-I… I m-mean…” he swallowed the lump that threatened to stop his words, his hands lifting up to press against his chest as he did. “I… I mean m-more… th-than… th-than… f-friends…”
Maybe that would help? Akira kept looking up at her for a little before his head tilted back down.
“I… L… L-love… y-you… m-more… th-than… th-that…”
Maemi plz- don’t crush the poor boy.
Aw, look at how sweet Akira is being! It’s too cute to stand, isn’t it? He’s all nervous telling her how much he cares! She should be sure to let him know how important he is to her, too...!
“More than friends? ...Of course! Like a family, right?”
MAEMI STOP. Just stop talking. Please.
flower chain || Maemi || Chapter 4 Free Time [Akira]
shsl-timidapparelworker:
Akira shifted in his seat, sheepishly tugging on the ends of his sleeves as he tried to sort out his thoughts. At her question, he looked up from his lap- his heart stopping for a second or two at what she said.
“A-Ah… W-well…”
It’s now or never, Akira. You can do this!
“I… I do… have… s-something I… I want to tell… you…”
His chest was stiffening at his nervousness, his stuttering more noticeable than ever as he tried to tell her what he wanted to for a while now.
“I… I-I th-think y-you’re… r-r-really… n-nice a-and…” A small frustrated noise followed his words- frustrated at him not being able to get his thoughts out. “I… I… r-r-really… c-care… a-about… you…”
His gaze slowly turned down to his lap again as the pink tint on his face slowly started turning red, his heart beat speeding up and starting to pound in his chest.
“I… I… th-think… I… r-really… l… l-love… you…”
He did it! Akira actually did it! He himself couldn’t believe he was able to, a wide smile spreading on his lips- not that Maemi could see it after all, seeing as his head was still pointed down to his lap.
“Mm...?”
Maemi blinked, carefully taking in the words. Where was this coming from, so suddenly? Not that the words aren’t unwelcome. It’s just as sweet and thoughtful as anyone could expect from a boy like Akira. A smile creeped its way back up her lips, instinctively fiddling with her new favorite hair trinket.
“Eheh, I really care about you too, Akira-kun--you know that!”
The girl reached out to give him a pat on the head. Maemi stop. Don’t patronize the baby, he just did a brave. End her.
“Is...everything okay? You know I love you and care about you, right Akira-kun? I know I haven’t been around very much, but...that doesn’t mean I think any less of you, not at all!”
Ahh, this is bad. She’d spent so much time stuck in a rut that maybe Akira had gotten the wrong idea? Did he not think she cared about him? Maemi stop the only one with the wrong idea here is you.
flower chain || Maemi || Chapter 4 Free Time [Akira]
shsl-timidapparelworker:
Akira nodded at her first question, letting her take the flower from him, though his gaze stayed pointed down. After she spoke again, he looked back up to her, his heart fluttering at her appearance again.
“Y-You… l-l-look… g-great… Maemi-san…”
‘Great’ wasn’t the word he would really use, but it was the only one he could force out. He cursed his stutter- making it harder for him to speak, but there wasn’t much he could do about it.
“R-Really… great…”
“Eheh, thanks! I love it!”
Maemi grinned in response, carefully repositioning the flower with her hands. With how naturally it came, it was almost hard to remember why she was feeling so down in the first place. Aside from, you know, the whole cruelly murdered bestie thing. Rest in peace, tree friend...
Ah, but she came out here to not think about those sorts of things, hadn’t she? To disconnect from every part of this, and every part of her. She had even...avoided Akira in the process. He was...the most important person she had now, right? A pang of guilt resounded through her chest at the thought.
She couldn’t just avoid Akira out of fear of losing someone close to her. That sort of thinking...didn’t even make sense.
“Ah, hey, Akira-kun...did you want to talk about anything? Or hang out somewhere, or something? I just realized it’s been a little while...since we’ve done anything fun together...”
flower chain || Maemi || Chapter 4 Free Time [Akira]
shsl-timidapparelworker:
Akira shook his head in reply to the other’s question- still unable to make his voice work. He needs to get it to work soon… He racked his brain for something to calm himself down, for the check list he had made mentally after Mitsuo gave him some tips.
One thought came to mind- flowers. He said to give her flowers… right? One thing he had done was pick a few, only one or two, feeling guilty for even picking one.
He picked up the purple flower behind him, extending his arm out to the taller teen, his expression embarrassed and his head facing the ground.
“Eh? For me..?”
Maemi blinked, carefully taking the flower in her hands. Even with the overbearing feeling of doom and gloom hovering around them like some dreadful storm cloud, Maemi couldn’t keep herself from smiling at the gesture. How cute! How thoughtful! Her eyes fluttered from the flower and back to Akira. Aw, was he embarrassed? Don’t be shy, Akira-kun!
After a bit of fiddling, the girl had successfully fastened the flower behind her ear. She looks pretty pleased with herself, considering she’d just been sulking about a few minutes ago.
“Eheh! There...! What do you think, Akira-kun?”
rolling around at the speed of sloth || Maemi || Chapter 4 Free Time [OPEN]
sharpeyedadvisor:
Is that all she’s got? Akemi chuckled, her voice coming across as rather deep. Oh, does Maemi not know about one particular thing? Is she trying to deny it? That isn’t even going into the pathetic comeback. In fact, it’s only given her more fuel.
“Glad to know that you’ve given me a ‘formal confirmation’ that Akira is a button I can press. I’ll be sure to remember that whenever I need you to actually be useful for a change. Oh, and by the way?”
She crouched down, leaning in. Her eyes…they were so vibrant. Teeming with malevolence. She wasn’t even trying to hide it.
“I’ll be sure to see if I can provoke Akira in the same way.”
It was a good thing Maemi hadn’t gathered up enough conviction to look this girl in the eye as she leaned in, or else she surely would have faltered and crumpled beneath that malicious gaze. She’d been determined not to give any fuel for Akemi’s fire--but even still, she felt a dreadful shiver shoot up her spine as the words slithered their way into her head. She could geel her heart sinking. She could feel herself sinking into the floor.
What was this girl’s deal? There’s no way...there’s no way that’s the Kin she knew before, right? Something had to have happened. Some weird trick or dream logic? Her hair had changed colors right in the middle of the trialroom...
Maemi tried her very best not to play into this demon’s hand, really. She tried to stay composed and deadpan. The only way to make someone like this leave was to make them bored. Probably. As long as she didn’t elicit any sort of response, she’d eventually get bored and leave her alone, right?
So the girl gripped the edge of her notebook lightly, turning her head to further avoid the girl’s gaze and barely managing to mumble out a reply. Ah, yes, very convincing. You are so brave.
“...Have fun with that, Tomato-chan.”
Don’t say anything else. There’s no more that needs to be said. Any more, and that gives her an excuse to prey on you. Don’t falter. Don’t shake. Don’t yell, or cry. You know better than that, right? Still...
How could simple words be so terrifying...?
flower chain || Maemi || Chapter 4 Free Time [Akira]
shsl-timidapparelworker:
Akira couldn’t make his voice work- his eyes glued to the other’s new appearance. Such a sudden change… but not unwelcome.
His mouth opened and closed a few times as he tried to talk but it didn’t work, only odd gasps and wheezes making their way out. He wanted to tell her she looked great- beautiful even!- but he couldn’t make the words come out.
So instead he just nodded, his mouth still somewhat open in shock, his cheeks still tinted pink, and his heart still pounding in his chest.
Maemi blinked, eyes settling on Akira and his failing voice. Uh-oh, actually, he doesn’t look so good, does he? Maybe this wasn’t about her sudden change in appearance after all? It’s not like she was the only person that had been effected by the events of the past few days, after all...
“Uhm, you okay, Akira-kun? Do you need to go to the pharmacy?”
flower chain || Maemi || Chapter 4 Free Time [Akira]
shsl-timidapparelworker:
Akira had been spending a lot of time in the garden- the flowers surrounding the area making it a peaceful place for him. He was gently petting one of the flowers, admiring the softness of the petals, when he heard the familiar voice call his name, the hand placed on him afterward not making him jump as much as you’d expect, though his heart did flutter at her touch.
“Mae-” his voice died in his throat as he turned around to see her, his happy expression turning into one of shock- a tiny bit of pink spreading quickly across his face. “…mi?”
He was able to finish her name- however it came out as a squeak more than words, his shocked expression mostly at her new appearance- his heart picking up for lost time, he could feel it pounding on his chest.
Ah? Maemi quickly withdrew her hand from his shoulder, as if she’d hurt him somehow. The now raven-haired girl tilted her head a bit, visibly confused by the boy’s change in expression. He looked pretty shocked. Sure, she hadn’t seen him in a little while, but...what, was something on her face?
...Oh, right, duh--the hair. Letting out a small sigh of relief, Maemi’s concern expression shifted into a slightly more comfortable smile.
“...Eheh, I found some hair dye in the machine awhile ago--I figured now was as good a time as any to try it, right? Ito-kun gave me a hand.”
Maemi took a few steps back from the boy, doing a quick once-around to show off her new look in full. Thanks Maemi. Hopefully it wouldn’t take too long for people to get used to, but...
She needed a change in scenery. She couldn’t stand looking at her old self anymore. Not after everything that had happened. Especially in the past couple of days....
“What do you think? Ito-kun did a good job, right?”
rolling around at the speed of sloth || Maemi || Chapter 4 Free Time [OPEN]
sharpeyedadvisor:
Akemi wanted to actually see if she could gain access to the rooms of the deceased. Would there be anything different inside? It’s more likely that it’s nothing more than an empty room. There’s no reason to convert it into anything else. Not that she’s aware of anyway.
Instead, the scarlet woman finds someone else. A stranger– No. It’s not. It’s Maemi. She went through a visual change too? New clothes, untied hair– Black hair. How…amusing. How could she pass up this opportunity?
“Oh, here’s a surprising change. You’ve dyed your hair and for once, I see you without that eyesore of a child.”
That’ll get her attention.
Maemi’s focus was drawn away from her doodling by a vaguely and...tantalizingly familiar voice. What was that. Was that...
Oh, wonderful. It’s her. Maemi still wasn’t sure how to feel about that girl, ever since her reveal during the trial--but Maemi can feel her grip tighten against her notebook in response to her words. Akemi....Ueyama, was it? What the heck, not-Kin. What was that. Why you gotta be so rude.
Well, Kin was clearly intelligent, and this person may be even moreso. She probably knows what she’s doing. So, was she...intentionally trying to provoke Maemi? Ignore it. Don’t give her the satisfaction. Avert your gaze, go back to drawing your stupid sloths.
“Looks like I’m not the only one with a penchant for change... Unfortunately, the only eyesore here is you.”
Well, so much for ignoring her. Talk about a change inattitude. Maemi please that’s not even a good comeback. Seriously how is that supposed to help anything. Step up your sass game by like 10 and try again later.

i hope you die in a fire || Maemi || Trial 3.2 || RE: Takumi why this
dreamsofdxxth:
Maemi had done so well holding her tongue and trying to stay calm. At least, she thought she had. She kept an even tone and everything, right? Even though Theo was dead…but…
“Liar, you’re…you’re lying! Theo wouldn’t do that! He was…he was watching the halls at night and trying to keep everyone safe! He was always working so hard, he wouldn’t–he wouldn’t just throw everything away like that! There’s no way! He was…”
Idiot, you know that it’s entirely feasible. And can you blame him? No, there only one person that can be blamed here. Maemi’s hands gripped the edge of her podium so intently that eventually her whole body shivered and quaked in response. So much for keeping it together. It felt like her body was falling apart, and the only thing that could keep her together was bellowing all of the air out of her lungs.
“All Theo ever did was try to help people! He was always trying to hard! We needed him… I needed him, and–and you could have saved him! You could have stopped this from happening! You could have saved him, but you…you killed him without a second thought! You killed two people! How can you… How can you just…”
Well, it’s not like she completely doesn’t understand–because she almost wouldn’t mind ending Takumi’s life herself. The others wouldn’t mind either, right? At least the previous killers had some semblance of a reason for doing what they did. Takumi just… What Takumi did was…completely unforgivable…!
“You’re a monster…the worst of the worst! I hope you die twice! Hah…I can’t wait to see what they have in store for a scumbag like you!”
Maemi slams in her vote. Bye Takoom.
a wild meme appears || Maemi || Trial 3.1 || RE: a lot of things
The trial had been going more slowly than Maemi would have liked–but she’d definitely take it over the chaos of the last trial. Not much had happened for this meme. She had helped Daisy to her podium before the trial started, giving Akira a pat on the head while she was over there. She went back to her podium, and just…listened, for the most part.
She’d had so much fire in her when she saw Theo’s body like that. She wanted to get vengeance for him, right? She wanted justice! Of course, she hadn’t done enough investigation to feel very confident. She’d taken a break to talk with Akira, and before she’d realized, it was time for the trial to start. Nice. Nice meme. A+ job avenging your dead friend.
Regardless, Maemi found herself nodding a bit as Haruko spoke. Aside from the idea that Greg was involved in the killings, she had come to a similar conclusion herself, but… It didn’t feel right to accuse Takumi, somehow.
He seemed so nice and polite when they spoke, right? She felt so much anger and...hatred toward the culprit right now–and she didn’t want to feel that way about Takumi. So she waved her hand in an attempt to get the group’s attention before sounding off. There’s no way she wanted this trial to be as chaotic as the last one–Theo deserved so much better than that! They absolutely had to find the killer!
That won’t happen if she can’t stay calm, right? Keep it together, Murakami…
“Mm…Ueno-kun’s right, I can attest to that much… Theo mentioned before that he doesn’t…didn’t spend a lot of time in his room, or with his roommate–and when I hung out in their room with the two of them, the air between them seemed kind of weird, like they were strangers.”
“But…Ueno-kun, that doesn’t do much to clear you of suspicion. Don’t you have more proof? An alibi, or something? I mean, Theo spends so little time in his room that it’s kind of weird for his things to be in there in the first place… I mean, if he was in his room, that’d be a perfect opportunity. I’ve seen Ueno-kun signing with him before, so he probably wouldn’t need his notebook if Ueno-kun were to lead him out somewhere… Someone wouldn’t have to be close to him to do that much…”
Is that a little anger seeping out at the end, there? Don’t jump to conclusions, or things will get bad, right? Maemi instead allowed her fingers to wrap around the edge of her podium, hands shaking a bit in response. Just look at the ground instead. Boy, that sure is a nice floor. A+ quality flooring materials you have here.
Fun in the Sun! || Chapter 3 || Maemi, Akira (+Small-chan)
The girl looked from Maemi to Akira and back again, beaming all the while. They really wanted to play? With her? Oh, this was so great!
“Mhm! Mhm! I always wanted to play on a beach! I-I’ve never been on a beach before…”
Just what kinda sheltered life has this girl lived, never being on a beach before? She certainly seemed excited enough, honestly. As she bounced on her toes, she asked another innocent question.
“U-Um… What do we do on the beach? What do we do?”
Akira shifted in his spot, unsure of what to say in reply to the smaller girl’s question, seeing as he never went to one himself. He looked up to the blonde, tilting his head curiously, wondering what she was going to say.
Oh wow, she’d never been to the beach before? Then this should be even more fun! Probably. There’s no way this can go poorly. Yep. This is destiny! This little cutie was destined to have a super fun time at the beach with Akira and her!
“You’ve really never been to a beach before, little Snow White? Ohhh, we’re going to have such a great time!”
Apparently that’s her name now. Nice. Maemi grinned, resisting the urge to scoop the cute little girl up in her arms and spin her around. We know what happened last time.
“Eheh, there’s a whole bunch of fun stuff to do at the beach! Like, you can go swimming, you can collect sea shells...or we could all build a big sandcastle fit for a princess! There’s suikawari, or we can eat ice cream...I looked around, and there’s even a fun arcade nearby! We can do all sorts of stuff!”
All We Need is Drive! || Maemi || Item Reaction [Open]
Maemi is really good at the whole memeing thing, she’s very entertaining about it really. Mitsuo can absolutely see her starring in some live action superhero show. Bless Captain Onion Rings, she is the hero we deserve.
“Yeah, you’re right! This is pretty lucky… maybe it’s a sign that things will get better?”
Probably not. But Mitsuo is really happy about this, he has a good feel about these items. He slides the thread and notebook into his pockets, and gathers up Su-Jin and the camera carefully in his arms.
“Hey do you need a sidekick for your crimefighting at all? Because I’m feeling all pumped up now! I’d totally back you up!”
Maemi relaxed her pose, peering over to get a somewhat closer look at what Mitsuo had just gotten. Nice! Yes, this was definitely a destiny pool! The smile on his face is enough to confirm that much!
“It has to be! I mean, luck like this doesn’t come around every day, Ito-kun! Eheheh, if nothing else, I bet your love fortune’s gonna go way up!”
Maemi grinned, seeming more than excited at Mitsuo’s proposition. Of course, someone cool and positive like him would be an invaluable asset to any crime fighter! Er, person.
“Eheh! The more the merrier, right? With our powers combined, we’ll solve the mysteries of this place and be out in a pinch, Ito-kun! With that charming smile, you’d make an awesome hero of justice!”
“…Oh, but it is. I don’t honestly know what you hope to gain from accosting me.”
“Do you honestly think I’ll just change my mind? Decide that I’m not bothering one stubborn brat enough, and just let you all go?”
“You have a lot of reality left to live if you think you know me well enough, girl. I’ve outlived you several times over by now. Don’t think you can sway me so easily.”
Maemi isn’t sure what she was hoping to gain here either. Oops. It’s not like he was wrong about that, really, but...she’d already come too far to back out now! Probably.
Though, now that she thought about it, this was the first time she’d ever addressed this person personally, wasn’t it? Sort of intimidating... Intimidating enough for her to shrink back a bit under his gaze and clutch Little Foot against her chest.
Yeah, this was a bad idea. Nice job, meme.
“I don’t...understand. What do you want from us...?”
“I don’t see how there can possibly be any point to any of this at all! What can you possibly gain from making a bunch of kids kill each other like this?”
Fun in the Sun! || Chapter 3 || Maemi, Akira (+Small-chan)
There was no response for a few seconds. It might not have worked, had it? But just when they thought that Maemi’s cries had fallen on deaf ears, a familiar voice met their ears.
“Play…? Playing…?”
Soon enough, a familiar form bounded towards them.
“O-Oh, are we playing? What are we playing?”
Akira jumped slightly at her sudden appearance, though he calmed down quickly, his small smile still in place. He glanced to Maemi for a moment before turning back to the white haired girl in front of them.
“W-We… were going to… to the beach to play… w-we wanted to know… if you’d like… like to come…”
His voice was somewhat quiet- a small feeling of guilt coming up inside. He still felt bad for upsetting her before, even if he was only doing what Ryouma had told him to do…
He shifted in his spot a moment, waiting for Maemi to speak. He didn’t think he should bring it up now, but he decided he will apologize to her, eventually.
For a second, Maemi had been entirely convinced that the calling method hadn’t worked after all--she’d even shifted a bit to start walking in search for the girl right before she bounded toward them. Whoa, nice! Maemi couldn’t help but marvel for a second.
“Whoa, it worked! You must have really good hearing!”
If that’s even how things worked here. Probably not. No matter! Maemi joined in Akira’s smiling soon after, bending down a bit so she could be closer to their level.
“Mmhm! We thought it’d be fun! Do you like the beach, little miss?”
