The man who was 20+ years older than me and groomed me into a cultural mentor type relationship while I was at university and a thousand miles from home. The man who ended up stalking me and going as far as using a false name and making regular phone calls to my mother pretending to be a friend and classmate of mine, subsequently making a ‘friendship’ with her to keep tabs on me. Who tried to drug me one night and then followed me home. Who physically cornered me and screamed in my face when I told him I didn’t like him like that. Who screamed at me that I was bad and had no respect for our culture and elders because I didn’t want to have sex with him. Who physically assaulted my friends who showed up to protect me.

That guy? I just found out he died. And I feel really weird about it because he was never brought to justice over how he treated me, my family, and my friends. But death makes people want to honour and remember the dead. I found out he was dead because of a tribute page with people remembering him for being a great guy. People who remember how good he was. How much he shared culture with young people and how he was a respected elder.

My family and I have trust issues because of him. My friends had PTSD from him. I still feel sick and dirty because of him. I wish he was held accountable before he died and was remembered as a respected cultural elder, loving father and grandfather, and a devoted family man. But he’s dead and only the people close to me know what he was really like. I feel sick.

Endangered Languages Challenge: Gamilaraay/Yuwaalaraay/Yuwaalayaay

Genealogical Affiliation: Pama-Nyungan

Dialects: Yuwaalaraay; Yuwaaliyaay (Euahlayi); Gunjbaraay; Gawambaraay; Wirray Wirray (Wiriwiri); Walaraay

Location: Central-Northern New South Wales, Australia

Number of Speakers: 105 with revitalisation efforts

Why is the language endangered? Due to negative impacts of colonisation, especially in central NSW where there was frequent frontier violence at contact and large numbers of Aboriginal children forcibly removed from families, thus severing kinship ties and connection to communities. Alongside dispossession of land, and Australian government policies of assimilation and systemic cultural genocide.

Speaker Group: Members of the Gamilaraay Nation have proactively been involved in language maintenance and revitalisation efforts for a number of years. yuwaalaraay.com is a website that speakers and Language Knowledge Holders have created. It has an extensive collection of resources for language education. Gamilaraay is taught in schools and TAFE.

Hey do you know alot about internal organs. Cause if so then i have a pretty specific question.

Are... are your organs covered in blood??? Since blood tends to flow thru the blood vessels, and if your body is healthy and all your blood vessels are imtact then your organs shouldn't be covered in blood, right? But just saying that feels wrong.

No, unless you are actively experiencing internal bleeding then your organs are not covered in blood. They are however wet, but it's cerebrospinal fluid and mucus that keeps them that way.

Trust me you do not want them to be in any other condition. If they were covered in blood then there would be no way for your body to effectively circulate that blood, leading you to bleed out. As for them being wet, I personally would not want to experience dry friction on my organs so I am more than okay with that

Also just to clear up any further confusion, cerebrospinal fluid (as the name implies) is contained to just your brain and spinal cord. The rest are protected by mucous
